The Good and the Beautiful science is our favorite! We love a unit study approach to science, it’s nice to learn about something for a few weeks, and then learn about something completely new for a few weeks. What’s really cool about the units is that they are designed to be repeated in a few years. So what your children get out of it in first grade will be completely different when they go through it again in 5th or 6th grade. It’s ok they don’t get EVERYTHING out of it at their ages now!

You’re so right! I totally forgot to mention that! Thanks 😊

Thanks for showing us a lesson in action! I think that adapting the lessons to make them shorter, and then doing the lessons more often is a really smart change--short, frequent lessons help a lot with with retention.

Yes it’s working well! I would totally recommend it especially if you have younger kids

I was overwhelmed at first to start homeschooling but your videos have been extremely helpful. Thank you so much !

Thank you for showing this! I have been wondering what a lesson at home looks like. I don't homeschool but I bought all the Good and the Beautiful book packs at the beginning of the summer (ecosystems, plants, bugs, etc) and we had themed weeks this summer with them. We loved it and I have been wondering what it would be like to do a real lesson with the curriculum.

Nothing wrong wiv breaking lessons up!!! We’ve came back to activities when we have needed to!!! We are doing gather round earth science at the moment and it’s a bit like ecosystems. Ecosystems is in the earth science and my youngest isn’t even listening in, I don’t make her. We looked at TGTB for the earth sciences but we didn’t want to go to deeply in. We do science more often as well!!!

We started this unit before the holidays and didn’t pick it back up. This video reminded me to get it back out. We are going to start over just in case we forgot anything.

Hope you guys enjoy it ☺️☺️ it’s a short unit so refreshing should go quick!

We split it in half as well, kinda. We read aloud the recommendation books first, next day I read the lesson, and then the following day he works on the worksheets while I play a video in the background. :) Takes 3 days to do 1 lesson. Which also makes the unit last longer. We enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing how you do it! Next year I am definitely going to prep before we start.

That sounds awesome!! You guys are totally making it your own…love to hear that!

We just did lesson 8 in Ecosystems last week. 🙂 I love TGTB's science units. We have geology, mammals and botany ready to go, but we haven't decided which one we're doing next. Fun video!

Great review! I'm looking at science units for next year right now. We've been doing TGTB for science the last 2 years but I'm running out of steam with it. But it's so pretty!! 😍😍 Haha! This was one of the units we haven't done yet, and I'm teetering on the fence with it.

Yes I get that….I like to change things up a bit too! What I liked about this was that it was shorter so it didn’t drag on and on

We did ecosystems last year, and we skipped the sponge grass activity too 😅 Just finished Space and moving on to Reptiles next!!

Thanks for sharing! It looks like a great unit. I was thinking of purchasing it for next year, but I think I may wait a year or so. My son is only 6 so I think we may buy space and arthropods like you mentioned.

I was interested in this unit but I was hesitant because of the age of my kids. I might hold off another year or two and stick with the space or arthropod like you mentioned. Thanks for making this! Love how you pre-planned it all during the summer also.

Yea unless they are very science minded it might be a good idea to hold off for a bit (but don’t skip it because it’s a great unit!)

Great video! You do such a good job showing the reality of homeschool. What TGTB science units do you recommend for a kindergartener and 3rd grader?
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
Aww thank you! Honestly I’m probably not the best person to ask about that because it’s our first year and we’ve only done 3 units. We really loved space! I would say go with what your kids seem interested in (I let my girls choose all of our units). I think having them choose gets them more excited. Sorry I couldn’t be more help as far as specific units

Did you add any books to the study? I'm wondering if older kids would benefit from more research books.
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t, just the picture books. But that’s a great idea…especially for science loving kids! Love that idea ❤️

I love the look of this but how would you feel about this for a 7th grader? (Next year I’ll have grades k, 2, 5,6, 7) would be nice to just do one science and not 5
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
O yes….please don’t do 5 different sciences 😮💨 each lesson has an extension for 7-8 graders to dive deeper into the topic so in think it would work great!
@ktafam6952 жыл бұрын
We also do about half a lesson most times or one activity at a time, unless my child seems like he wants to keep going.
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
It works out so well that way!
@karlagreen78192 жыл бұрын
Any unit that you recommend for kindergarten and firstgrade ?
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
I would say probably one of the animal units (reptiles, birds) whichever ones they seem to be most interested in. Or if they love rocks, then geology, or space then space…follow their interests. Take it slow…they will absorb more than you think but some stuff will just be over their head…and that’s ok too. At that age just have fun together with it
@alis10152 жыл бұрын
Do they provide the answer key ? Thank you !
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
Only for the 7/8th grade extension. Some of the activities have answer keys but the one we did in the video didn’t

It says 2 but you can do whatever you’d like, make it work for you.

Just one. It comes with a PDF so You can print copies or just make copies of the physical pages they send.
