We agreed to having communication before we got married because I had been abused in the past. So we agreed that it is very important in marriage. We have been married 47 years. It works

I loved this vlog! I met my partner in High School, we both worked at the same grocery store. We have been married for 25 years and we don't celebrate Valentine's Day because 1. We do lots of different and fun things with and for each other throughout the year and 2. The real holiday is February 15th when all the candy is marked 50% off so I go and buy chocolates for us the day after. My husband and I also have similar and different interests that we do together and separatlely and we do talk often and check in with each other about how we are doing, feelings, projects we are working on or want to etc. I think you both are so groovy and I loved watching this.

So for me, I have been with my partner for over 24 years now. We have been engaged for 14 but just haven’t got round to tying the knot. I have an automatic car now. I used to have a manual but wouldn’t go back to one now. Due to medical reasons I had to switch. I used to drive everywhere but now my partner has seemed to taken over driving all the time. Yes we have different interests which means we aren’t living in each other’s pockets but we do spend most evenings together. This year is the first ever that we are going out for a meal on Valentine’s Day. So I’m really looking forward to it. What ever you do have a Happy Valentines ❤

Oh my gosh Lisa an automatic car is the best thing. I love ours and would never go back. I remember thinking that it was going to be really difficult to drive and after a couple of minutes in the car I was like yes this is for me. I don’t understand why we even bother having manual cars. I met my husband in work and I ignored him first of all because I was trying to get on with my work. We had a works do a month or so later and we’ve been together ever since. 31 years in March and 27 years married this year. Valentines Day sort of ended for us when I went into labour 6 weeks early 24 years ago. I remember that all I was concerned about was cancelling our restaurant reservation as I didn’t want to be a no show for them! Since then it’s been blowing up balloons for our daughter’s birthday. She was born just after 1am on the 15th. Xx

Hi Lisa, I have (perimenopause related I believe) a very real feel of driving, being driven and have even been to CBT for it! As sometimes it stops me being able to enjoy my life and puts strain on my family when my kids are travelling etc…but I manage it doing breathing exercises and trying to stop that internal negative chat!! We’ve just recently got an automatic fully electric car and I absolutely love it having never driven one before! I feel very safe and it’s super easy! I like driving it and am taking slow steps into overcoming my anxiety - it makes me sad as I used to love driving and commuted everyday 60 miles in the 🚗 and I’d love to get back to that!! Good luck sweetie you can do it!

What an adorable little farm, just my type of place! We do not make a big deal out of holidays or anniversaries with the exception of thanksgiving and Christmas. Making time for each other is a must and yes to communication and I would add honesty to that as well. Hubby and I have been together 36 years, happily married 32. Lisa I completely understand your aversion to driving, I don’t drive unless I absolutely have to. I learned on a standard, it just takes patience and practice. You’ll get there 😊

This was fun! We’ve been married going on 23 years, we met at a club he was a single dad, we dated, lived together, got married and had two kids and they are now 30,22,18! we still need to work on communication, compromise and togetherness as our busy work schedule and life gets in the way! We rarely argue and mostly have a nice calm house but spending time together and making the effort is good advice! I think you guys are a great example of all these! Hey, best of luck with your challenge.. both will be difficult.. and will take practice.. be kind to yourself as you adjust to it! As always Thank you for sharing!

Another great video and can I just say Lisa until last August I had never driven an automatic car, however last July I sadly lost my dad and he had a new car sat on the drive that he had had 3 months and only got to drive it a few times. My mum really wanted me to have my dad’s car, it was quite a daunting thought, however after a few trips in the car I wondered what on earth I had been worried about. Well all I can say is I wouldn’t part with my automatic car, so so easy and enjoyable to drive. Give it a go…..you can do it ❤

Bit late to the conversation, but fully agree with Ade that you need to get your driving mojo back Lisa. I've done the same - I was ill late 2019 and then the lockdown happened and I just stopped driving altogether as my husband took over and drove every time we got in the car. I totally lost my confidence. I've had to really push myself to start again and its mainly been because my dad is in hospital and my son goes to school now in another town and I need to go get him occasionally. I am a bag of nerves every time but actually, its been really good for me to prove to myself I can do it. I have even been driving my husbands car which is automatic. Its not as hard as you might be thinking. I have more issues with it being a bigger car than it being automatic. Better to do it at a pace your comfortable with than needing to do it in an emergency. I'd suggest ripping the plaster off and just doing it without much planning as the thought of it is far worse than actually doing it. Best of luck.

I agree that it’s a good idea to do some separate things and go out with separate friends but a long relationship lasts because you have similar tastes. We both love theatre, live music and travelling plus seem to like similar people. I like his old mates and get on with their wives and he likes my mates and gets on with their husbands. Valentine’s Day is our wedding anniversary so a pain to get a table to eat out. We married that day as it was the last Saturday before we were due to go out to live in Australia.

I was worried about driving an automatic, I had the idea that it might run away with me and get out of control, but seriously, it’s so easy, and a lot less to think about, I really don’t like the idea of driving a manual car now. Why not start off by driving around an empty car park say in the evening, I’m sure that you’ll be surprised that it’s not as bad as you thought. I wasn’t able to drive for quite a while because I was waiting for a knee replacement operation, and then the recovery, so I was quite nervous when I first got in the car again, and was quite anxious driving to Tesco, but realised when I got back home, that I hadn’t even thought about it on the return journey, it’s so good now to have my independence back , and my husband loves it that he now doesn’t have to take me to the shops anymore.

Hi both of you, I needed to upgrade to a bigger family car and one that was affordable for us second hand. It was automatic and I was soooooo nervous about it like you Lisa plus with age, driving makes me feel more anxious but as soon as i took the plunge (several months after we got it!!) I loved it & would probably hate going manual now! I totally get how you feel , those feelings are valid but start small, just a short drive around where you live or plan on a map somewhere you feel more comfortable to drive around a few streets and I bet you will get the confidence to drive again. Just make sure you try on a day you feel you can try, no pressure. Maybe a Sunday late afternoon where less cars on the road ? Keep us posted with the developments and Ades culinary developments. Your video has actually given me a lot of food for thought and inspiration to make some positive changes so thank you xx

We were at goldsmiths for a media access course and I remember hearing his voice from around the corner and my heart started thumping - it was the weirdest thing. I’ve drove both and love an automatic more. Less work and I hated when I was on a hill having to let that clutch out and not roll back…lol. An automatic will become second nature to you. My husband and I first met when we were in our teens through family friends; we lived in separate states and weren’t that interested in one another…forward several years later, both out of bad marriages and I’d moved to his state we met up again…got married 1.5 years later and will be celebrating our 40th Anniversary in Hawaii in a few months. We aren’t romantics, but seem to make it work…definitely been a roller coaster ride as we are total opposites.

Loved this vlog , me and hubby will be together 37 years this year , I was 15 he was 17 , married t years to the day we had our first date in 1992 so 32 years married this year ! 😮 Our youngest was a super anxious driver , wouldn’t even go into 5th gear , we all drive aut these days so after her first 12 months we bought her a mini automatic and she hasn’t looked back , even drives on the M6 these days, so do give the automatic a go , maybe in a quiet car park ? I will say that in my late 40’S I did suffer driving anxiety due to the menopause, it is a symptom and can be quite crippling at times but it’s definitely passed now and I love being able to jump in the car by myself even if it’s just popping to Aldi 🤣 Take care x

I have a lot of anxiety with others driving--I like to be in control-LOL! My husband and I met at work--became friends first then transitioned to more. I think that it important-that your spouse is your closest friend. As our son was growing up, we kind of got into a place where we were all home, but not spending alot of time together-my son in this room, my hubby in his man-can and me in my studio. Since our son's been at university, we are trying to reconnect, but old habits are hard to change. One thing we do every year is make a bunch of snacks and watch the Super Bowl! What kind of snacks does Ade have? My husband loves chili cheese dip w/fritos. We will make some ham and cheese sliders, mozzarella sticks and pizza bagels. You guys are a good example--you don't seem to take things too personal.

My late partner and I had a lovely relationship. When we disagreed we agreed to differ. We had shared interests and others that were geared to us as individuals. We were free spirits and after retirement would down tools, get in the car and drive through France, Germany and Italy exploring the small roads, enjoying what greeted us around every bend. It became a bit less spontaneous post-Brexit of course. Take a deep breath and find somewhere quiet to practise driving the automatic - it really is quite easy to master. You never know what is "around the corner" in life and should your husband be unable to drive for any reason you may feel isolated.

I learned to drive a stick shift truck. I was used to them and very comfortable with them. When we had child number two, and both toddlers where it was a bit harder to keep up with them (even when they were in car seats in the back seat while I was driving us some place) I thought that if I didn't have to use my feet to change gears and keep changing gears when slowing down or speeding up, then I wouldn't feel like the driving mechanics took so much of my attention. I could still keep an ear on what was happening in the back seat. I was thrilled to change then. Now I'd never go back.

Somehow (in amongst our move) I missed this video. That farm shop looked amazing - love that you could buy so much without packaging - esp frozen stuff which I've never seen before. Like you my hubby and I always go to bed at the same time. We met at a Church youthgroup (ironic since we are now atheists) when we were 13. Got married at 21 and know been married for 31 years. I do hope you'll get back to driving again, probably even more important now that you're not (I think) living close to your families. I'm sure it's something that a driving instructor could help you with if professional guildance might be more helpful.

And yes communication is key, although there have been some times when we haven’t. We get on really well & have celebrated valentines day off & on over the years but don’t think we will this year. As for driving an automatic car, it’s different but doesn’t take long to get used to it, but you haven’t driven for so long I’m not surprised you are feeling a bit anxious about it, just go at your own pace & only do it if you want to! 😊🤗

For me it’s familiarity, I hate driving cars I don’t normally drive and go into panic mode! I met my husband in 1990 at my friends 18th birthday meal, he was her boyfriend’s best friend and they had been trying to find an opportunity for us to meet for ages. Here we are 34 years later, one child who is now an adult and one just about to turn 17 so we are just beginning to rediscover doing things just the two of us again. We’ve recently moved and like you are having fun discovering new towns and villages to explore and finding little antique shops and charity shops to source items for our 400 year old cottage.

Lisa, I completely agree with you I refuse to drive an automatic 😮 Jamie is the same as Ade ‘it’s easy’ but I just cannot do it. I also hate the push button handbrake in newer cars. Mine has an old handbrake which you pull up but Jamie’s has a button and again I only drive it if I have to. Sat in Asda car park a few weeks ago moving so much in it before actually going shopping just to confirm it was on 😂😂😂😂 I’m sure people thought I was crazy !!!

In the 80s husband and I moved to Canada. Until we bought a car we had a rental which was automatic. Scared to death of it AND driving on the wrong side. We went to a large empty parking lot and I practiced. Repeated the next day and the next. Being short looking over the long bonnet/hood was a challenge. But I finally got confident. We returned to the UK 3 years later and back to manual transmission, I did not enjoy it. fast forward to the 90s and we move to California. Hooray back to automatic cars. When we return to the UK on vacation we pay the extra for an automatic rental car. And I suggest the same as someone else - take a couple of lessons with a driving school.

I do know what you mean Lisa - I hated my automatic, because I didn't feel like I had enough control. But you do pick it up. Just do a little bit, everyday xx

I passed my test when I was 18 in a manual car…..then my boyfriend/now husband had an automatic….I have driven automatics for over 50 years and could never drive a manual… I’d have to have lessons! We have never done Valentines but will be celebrating our Golden Wedding anniversary this year…… I have accidentally booked a ticket to see Bruce Springsteen with other friends on the day ….. we are not romantic at all 🤣😀🤣😀

Lisa I am the opposite of you. I am scared to drive manual/ stick shift. And we fuss about it too. Earl and I met at a party. He rescued me from a bad relationship.

I met my husband in a nightclub, we've been together 17 years in March. We don't really celebrate anything except Christmas and birthdays.

Awww Lisa - so strange because I’m the same with driving. I actually learnt at a later age but anyway, I haven’t driven in at least five years now 😮. I just lost my confidence :(. I have thought about taking refresher lessons again but it makes me anxious to think about xx. Ps I would personally rather try and drive an automatic because there is so much more to think about with manual. I have an anxiety about stalling the car! So, I do think an automatic would be much easier.

You seemed very stressed about driving an automatic car. Have you thought about having a couple of driving lessons to give you confidence in driving in an automatic car. Hope you don’t mind me saying.
