This October was exceptionally warm in Europe. Usually Vienna is quite cold and windy and generally gloomy in autumn, so you really got lucky. The garbage incineration plant @8:40 was designed by painter, sculptor & architect Friedrich Stowasser, better known by his artist's name Friedensreich Hundertwasser (literally "realm-of-peace/rich-with-peace hundred-waters"), whose work was greatly inspired by natural shapes. There also is the Hundertwasser-Haus in Vienna designed by him. The plant supplies district heating to about 60,000 homes as well as electricity generated from the incinerated garbage. Sachertorte at the Hotel Sacher isn't actually the best. They ship their cakes worldwide, so they use a very (i.e. too) thick layer of chocolate and make it quite dry for it to last longer. Basically any other café or bakery has better Sachertorte for cheaper 🙂

I love waking up on Saturday mornings to watch my favorite youtubers . This was exceptionally good video. Plenty of Hays cuteness and as usual, I get super hungry watching your food and market adventures. Was a little disappointed in no Pete dancing, and can we bring back, by popular demand, Pete sliding on playgrounds. Final question, where will Hays spendh his 5th Birthday.

How nice that you enjoyed Vienna so much. Such friendly people and OMG how cute is this boy! In hindsight, happy birthday in Vienna, little prince! A little note on the side: Be happy that the recipe for the Sacher Sachertorte is secret. No Viennese eats this cake. Way too dry ;) The recipe for the original Sachertorte is no longer a secret. Very easy to find on the Internet by Carla Sacher. Best regards from Vienna

And I’m sure hays had a nice birthday :D Next time you’re in austria, definitely visit salzburg and my hometown the student city and second biggest city Graz!!! I absolutely ADORE wiener schnitzels. I remember on my only ever visit to Austria back in the 90s paying a fortune for one, and thinking it was worth every stinking penny I forked out! Very hard to get them here in the UK although Aldi supermarkets have pork ones, so maybe they need a try. Pity you couldn't have dropped one off here next time on your way back!!!!

They're not that hard to cook, doesn't take very long either! Just takes some trial and error. Tenderise your meat, salt & pepper it, coat it in flour, then egg bath, then bread crumbs. Fry it in clarified butter for flavour, alternatively you can also use neutral oil for frying (or do half and half), then put the already cooked schnitzel into a second pan with some butter for a quick toast. Just be wary that regular butter burns quite easily, and use plenty of fat when frying.

Your video is the first, out of about twenty, that is enticing me to seriously consider Vienna as a possible regular place for future long term visits. So many of them are touristy ...essentially sharing the same tourist information. I have seen hints of what could appeal to me, but you gave me a better peak into what could be day-to-day living in a certain kind of ambiance ( a certain feel). To be sure, I like the cultured center and classiness Vienna offers; but that alone would not appeal to me, for "serious" living, if I couldn't also have what you were kind enough to share. Thank you

I know US-Americans like ice in nearly everything. It is also fine for me on a hot summer day, but by cooling your beverage/drink down, you will miss a lot of flavor. Why? Hint, the cooler stuff is, the less active molecules are.
@StephandPete
@StephandPete Жыл бұрын
I like the diluted taste! Weird, I know. I love a fountain soda when a lot of ice has melted. 🥤 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Gert-DK
@Gert-DK Жыл бұрын
@@StephandPete I am actually not speaking of diluted beverage. Imagine a potion of hot soup, it can easily be smelled and tasted. But if you freeze it down to a big lump of ice, it's hard to smell it. It is because the molecules move way slower, thus not releasing much flavor. Only the bacterizes in your stomach benefits from the flavor, when it is heated up down there. On a hot day, it is nice with some ice, but it costs on the flavor.

Actually, the Sacher Torte was NOT invented at the Hotel Sacher, the hotel was founded later. Which led to a lawsuit in the 1950s about who should be allowed to sell the "Original Sacher Torte": The Konditorei Demel, where the Sacher Torte was created by Eduard Sacher (based on a recipe of his father) and which sold the "Original Sacher Torte" ever since then, or the Hotel Sacher, which was founded by Eduard Sacher later in life.

The Sachertorte wasn´t invented at the Hotel. It was invented at the Court Bakery Demel BUT Eduard Sacher was the Confectioner at Demel´s who adapted the already existing Sachertorte into that what it is now, but actually "invented" was it by his father Franz Sacher decades earlier who also was Confectioner at Demel´s - actually as he invented it he was just an apprentice at Demel´s - but back then his "Original" was a little bit different (= had not that much chocolate therefore it was a bit lighter in colour and a bit more dense in texture because of the use of more flour instead of more chocolate for the batter) and that was actually "the torte" which was originally made exclusively as a commissional work contracted by Prince Metternich for a dinner amongst high ranked European aristocrats during the Viennese Congress where Europe´s monarchs reinstalled the "old Order" after the Napoleon wars..and since then it was then sold to the public by the Court Bakery Demel in the original form till Eduard adapted it while being there into its current form and got then sold by Demel´s in the adapted form as well The Hotel was built many decades after Hotel owner Eduard Sacher already has left Demel´s and made his money as confectioner entrepreneur till he had enough money to build the Hotel.. As long as the Hotel was in the Family Sacher´s hands Demel and the Hotel sold the same torte. But after the family Sacher sold the Hotel in the 1930ties the new owner went to court and sued Demel for selling the Sachertorte because he wanted it exclusively just for the Hotel. After 3 decades law suit it finally came to an extra-judicial agreement in the 1960ties = The Hotel named its Sachertorte "Original Sachertorte" and it has since then 1 layer apricot jam and a round seal on top...Demel named its Sachertorte "Original Eduard Sachertorte" and it has and always had 2 layers of apricot jam and a triangular shaped seal on top. For us Viennese the Demel´s Sachertorte is and always was the "Original" (and as long as the Hotel was in the family Sacher´s hands (till the 1930ties) its torte was identical which it isn´t anymore) "Einspänner" means literally "one horse carriage". ..A "two horse carriage" = "Zweispänner" and so on. It is named that way beacause it was originally "the coffee to go" for the carriage drivers back then who went for just a quick stop into the coffee houses with their own mug for a fill up of coffee. The whipped cream had just solely one purpose alone = to seal the hot coffee from the cold ambient air outside on the coach box. So actually to drink it "the original way" is not to mix the coffee with the whipped cream = no stirring in order to mix it but drinking the coffee through the whipped cream cap in order to leave the structure of the temperature holding cap intact.

0:10 Alla Turca from W.A.M? Nice choice, I might have gone for 19th century Chamber Music like Schubert or late 19th century Walz music like Strauß or Lehar - regardless, good taste. 0:17 Thats a legit good place - they have the apropriate garnish for a Wiener Schnitzel aswell. Good choice! 1:31 Thats a LOT of travelling. I dont recommend that in general. Would rather choose one country and stay there for 3 - 4 weeks, using a central location as "headquarters" for small/short travels in the sorrounding area. This way you get a better idea of the culture, see a lot of locations you might other wise miss out on, loose far less money in currency exchance and waste less time a plane or train. 1:58 Well...we do have rain from time to time but otherwise....yeah. 2:57 Oh thats a hard one...if I have to guess I would say U6 Niederhofstraße, Meidling. 6:45 Thats very smart - they do get considerably cheaper for longer time periods (depending if you used all 4 days or not the weekly might have been cheaper). 8:42 Typical Hundertwasser style - if you are interested, there is an apartment complex/partial museum of his you can visit in Vienna. 9:12 Personally I recommend buying the cake and either sending to your own home address or pick it up and eat it in private somewhere. The coffee house (for me at least) is far too crowded and stressful - rather recomend a less popular coffee house for a more relaxed visit. -> best cakes in the city...boy, thats like asking for the strongest hero at ComicCon^^ I would recommend Vollpension and Cafe Oberlaa. PS: The cake wasnt invented THERE, the inventor built the hotel later on to sell the successful invention. The cake was originally made for an emperor. 9:49 Einspänner is an interesting concept -> you are supposed to drink the coffee through the cream (thats why the glasses are usually tall and narrow). 11:16 If you have small children I also recommend the Museum of Science and Technology (free entry under 18y and LOADS of interactive possibilities). I literally went there in my teens and stayed all day without paying a cent....yes, Im a geek, and? 14:33 "Schmarrn" is a very old local slang word and means "Something that is messed up" -> if you take a fluffy omlette and you shred it, you "mess it up". "Kaiser" means emperor. Legend has it (and it sounds very realistic) that the chef prepared that dish for the emperor as a creation and as a first reaction the emperor shall have said something along the lines of "what kind of Schmarrn is that?". The name stuck ever since. 18:38 Jiddisch? omg, why didnt you stay in the 2nd district? xD There... is a lot of history. lets just leave it at that...comment got too long already.

Neuschmarkt is a fun experience with great eating options...be warned almost everything is more expensive than in a supermarket. Your cute bubbly son is hopping chatty star.
