How Wearing My Contacts Made Me Blind!!

My diagnosis so far:
Pseudomonas Aeruginosa HH Ulcer
Acanthamoeba Keratitis
First round of healing estimate: 3-12 months
If surgery is needed: 3-5 years
TIPS TO NOT GO BLIND AND WEAR CONTACTS:
+Don't reuse or "top off" cleaning solution. Use fresh solution every day.
+Keep your lens case clean. Replace it every couple of months.
+Wash your hands often, especially before you handle your contacts.
+Take out your lenses, even extended-wear ones, before you go to sleep.
+Don't wear your contacts in the shower, bath, or hot tub. Take them out before you go swimming.
+Read the labels and follow directions on your lenses and contact cleaning solution.
+Always go ASAP to a doctor when there is something up with your eye. Do not mess around or try to "wait it out".

NEVER GO SWIMMING WITH YOUR CONTACTS. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'll never do that ever. Acanthamoeba is what I read is commonly found in swimming pools. We contact wearers have a 90% higher risk of contracting the bacteria.

Yeah we’re actually not even supposed to SHOWER in contact lenses because of the microorganisms that may be in the water. These microorganisms are safe to bathe in & drink but they aren’t safe for eyes with contact lenses on them

@@taylorlove643 I wanted to know how your eye was healing after all you went through . I think you're going going to make a full recovery in this case. God can use these mistakes to make us submit to him. When you look to God he said alot about eyes he struck saul down and there was a man instructed by God to pray for saul who became Paul. You see some times we have to go to Go God. And the prayer that's going to really heal you might not be your own so you need to listen. Do you want God to heal your eye . seekcolor thank you! It is healing, much better than here in the vid. My vision is still messed up in that eye unfortunately but I’m optimistic it’ll heal! Contacts can be great they just have a lot of potential disasters we aren’t told about or taught how to properly wear/take care of them!

Taylor Love I am SO happy to hear you’re healing :) the body is amazing and I think it always wants to be in its optimal state and will work to heal itself over time through everything. My friend was paralyzes from the neck down and doctors told him you’ll never move any part of your body ever again but with time and Faith and optimism and exercise he can now move his hands and upper-body quite well. I hope your recovery is miraculous and never lose hope ❤️

I'm totally the type that would forget to take them out if I were going to go swimming (I've jumped in pools with my glasses on before). If there's ever a day I'm going to swim, it's a glasses day. This sounds like something was in the water. Been wearing contacts for 14 years or so now and worn them everyday basically the whole 14 years. I’ve even had. To where my eye was super red and was stinging and very very sensitive to light. Even to the point where my eye hurt so bad it was like a muscle ache or headache.. but in my eye if that makes any sense at all. It was awful and I couldn’t wear contacts for days at a time when that happened. I’d go 4 days without wearing them in that case. Anytime you feel like there a lash or something in your eye definitely take the contact out where it is occurring because the contact can be torn and a torn contact hurts like hell and will make your eye Red. But throughout e 14 years or so wearing contacts I’ve never had an issue where i seen Pus or anything like that. To me it sounds like something in that body of water you swam in did this to you.. some chemical maybe or something. I wish you the best however and hope you’re ok now 🙏🏼

The first thing the contact seller tells you not to do: Do not ever, ever, go swimming, bath or shower, in any water source, with your contact lenses in. There are organisms (acanthamoeba) in water that 'can' get into the eye from micro-scratches caused by lens use or damaged corneas, where they can cause infection. These organisms are usually not harmful to your eyes, they're washed out naturally, but can be deadly to your eyes if you use contacts. This organism is found practically everywhere, every water source, soil etc. Even in bottled water, never rinse your lenses with any water, always use specialised lens solution. Fun fact: You likely have these organisms in your nasal passages right now.

Parasite the eye was turning red was because the red blood cells were being eaten by the parasite and when the blood cells run out they start eating the cells of your eye itself

That's an eye ulcer! I have had that too! when I was 13 I was new to contacts and no one really told me how to take care of them. So I wasn't aware that you shouldn't wash your contact lens case with water. I thought it was suppose to be cleaned with water and water could do no harm cause it water!!! So after a month of me cleaning the case with tap water (5-6 times) one night my eye was super red and itchy. I was unusual case my eyes were super good with contacts but I didn't think too much of it and slept. Next morning it was super red but still I waited for a day to heal. The next day I could see a white ball in my pupil and consulted an online doctor. He asked my family to take me to a doctor. Thank god it was the initial stage and it healed in 4 days. Very scary tho

@@feverdream4053 tbh idk what brand it is i tried searching on Google but no results 🤣 My lens power are -11,-12 left and right and they came in two small transparent bottles where it's written "Bio-42" and nothing else except the power The shop that ordered those said that i can wear them for 14-16hrs daily and they will last for a year. So if u know the brand name please let me know too

I had a. Orbes transplant and it was the best thing I ever did. The recovery was a year but I wore a pirate patch and could see out of the other eye. I was legally blind in that eye so I have to wear a contact lenses on this of the graft but it is been over 35 years and it’s still great

As an optician when we do our contact training we emphasize the three S's when wearing contacts...no Swimming, Showering, or Sleeping with contacts on. Sorry you were misinformed by your eye doctor.

People often ignore the warning because they get away with so often. Problem is there always that one chance in say ten that you don't get away with it and this happens. This would be a harsh lesson in not to take your eyesight for granted and do as they tell you should do. Some of us don't get the second chance even when we did nothing wrong and start losing our sight to myopic macular degeneration thanks to nothing more then the genetic lottery.

It’s petrifying to go through something like that. I wear contact lenses and have experienced the pain of catching eye infections a couple of times due to sleeping with lenses on. It only made me realise how imperative it is to take care of your eyes and how precious they are. I’ve been in similar situation for me it took about a week for my eye to heal and started seeing again. My problem started because I work with my eyes e contact lenses on and it I went home and was exhausted so I didn’t remove them before I sleep. I slept with them woke up and couldn’t open my left eye. Hardly open it and removed the lenses went to hospital and they cleaned my eye and I was hardly open it and it was all red like blood. It was super sensitive to light and I was hardly open it for the first day. After about a week it became better. It’s bad habit to sleep contact lenses on and I learned that the hard way I did it for long time but it’s big lesson for me because the doctor told me that I might lose Vision if I keep do in it. I’ve been trying to do the Lasik surgery I think it’s better option specially if you don’t like glasses

It hasn’t gotten any better in 3 weeks now so I’m not sure what’s going on :/ what did they find for you? How are you handling the pain + discomfort + just the crazy experience in general?

Joanna Mycka oh dear I feel for you. This happened to me while I was in a foreign country but thankfully I had a couple friends who have shown me so much love and support through it all. I’m in Germany now but will be flying home to California soon. Happy to hear the pain has gotten a little better, I know exactly how you feel. My cornea still hasn’t closed and has an ulcer on it so it’s quite painful but we will heal and eventually this will be over. Do you have a scar on your eye too or did you catch it before that happened? I’m here for you 💜

First anyone who thinks they have a scratched cornea do not think it will heal on its own most times it wont and you have a huge risk of infection and scarring blindness. Second you are so beautiful its hard to accept but you WILL live your wonderful full life just take good care of your good eye protect it and everyone never put your face, head, hair, eyes in any body of water like a pool, lake, beach put ur body but. Keep your head out i never put my face in those water places or wear good tight fitting goggles dry your whole face b4 taking them off get in the water dont be scared get in enjoy but just your body water will splash but just dont wet your face. Any how big hugs your beautiful hun take care. Im an ophthalmic assistant for 8 years we see this all the time i myself almost gave myself a corneal ulcer from sleeping in contacts which i knew better so even if contacts say its ok to sleep in them i wouldn't do it do it all still but especially not longer than one or 2 days idk contacts are alot of trouble. Thank you for doing this video i know it will help alot of people out. I'm no longer able to wear contacts after 20 years of using them. Putting them in hurts my eyes and it is painful and uncomfortable to have them inside my eyes. Never used to have that problem.

hiii i kinda also swam with contacts on and nothing has happened so far but i'm also afraid that one day i'll wake up with my eyes infected so may i ask, how long until you experienced the symptoms? like the redness or pain?

Jewel Medina hi! I had been swimming for almost 10 days before it happened.. I started feeling something in my eye on the last day and it was pretty instant from there so if it’s been a few days already you should be fine! Just don’t do it again ❤️

You said that you swim in the lake how did you know there was no chemicals in the lake that might of affected the contact lens

You are such a strong young lady and I command you. Just started wearing contact lenses and I’m a bit worried sometimes and try real hard to follow the instructions. Definitely listening to you will help me a lot. Stay positive and you have a beautiful life ahead of you. Thank you for sharing
