Sooo, if the EAD 10 doesn’t work for you what do you use? Standard micing?
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly that! I did a few videos on "How to Live Stream Drums" where I get into my setup. But in a nutshell, I run everything through Logic and mics rather than the EAD10
@crnevins
@crnevins 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. So the EAD10 is really more optimal for practice, live monitoring, and aux pad triggering purposes then? I’ll check that video out.
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 4 жыл бұрын
@@crnevins it really depends what you’re looking for. In short, yep! If you’re not looking to get fully into the recording world but want a good drum sound that you can use, the EAD10 is the way forwards. If you need to produce a lot more recording based stuff, then mics. These are only my opinions and experiences though, there are SO many people out there that have done some amazing stuff with the EAD10. I hope this helps!

I've been looking at this for my band's IEM rig. That way we don't have to mic up our own drums every time we go out and play that way FOH can us their own mics and there's way less set up time involved.
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
It’s a good option! I didn’t get along with it because I like more overheads in my IEM mix, but that’s completely personal preference. It’s an amazing piece of gear either way!

I believe that’s just the sound of the trigger used. I find the EAD10 has a very specific compressed sound, some love it, some hate it!

Great advice! I know I got here late, but would you recommend some common settings on EAD10 (scene, volume, sensor/triggers sensibility, effects etc) when playing in live gigs? Thanks in advance!
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 7 ай бұрын
You're not late at all! When I used the EAD10, I remember the big thing being the volume between the 'overheads' and the kick and snare being not enough. So I generally turned down the kick trigger and added an external snare trigger, but apart from that, it's all personal preference!

Great question! I'm not too sure sadly. When I had the EAD10, I just took the main outputs and recorded them onto a memory stick or logic. From my knowledge though, they do come together with Rec in Share!

Question? Do I use the mic of the ead to listen to the drums as a monitor or do I get the sound guy to send me the whole mix band and drums? Or whole band no drums and use the ead mic to hear the drums back too?
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 9 ай бұрын
Great question! With a band, I would get a little mixer and send the headphone output of the EAD to the mixer, then get the sound guy to send you a band mix. Then you plug your headphones into the mixer and you have control over what you hear
@stevegodfreydrums
@stevegodfreydrums 9 ай бұрын
@@DrumElectric so using just the mic from the ead to mic the drums up myself. The sound guy doesn’t need to send me the drums his end? Just the back line and backing track. I’m worried about delay and bleed on stage? I’m thinking of not using the mini desk and I’ll just ask the sound guy to set the levels I wish for each instrument going straight into the ead?!

its hard to tell from the recording, does it get the tone of your drums accurately? ive heard that it kinda just turns your kit into a trigger, i dont want that
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes and no. So it'll get some tone from the toms as they're coming from just the mic, but I tend to find that the kick is pretty much the same across the board, as is the same with the snare. That being said, they may have updated software to help with this as it's been a while since I've used one!

Hey Brent! Great question, and one that I don’t know a true answer of sadly! I’ve didn’t use the Rec’N’Share app when I had the EAD10, so I’m not sure on its full potential. My first thought would be: it depends on where the band are plugging into, or if you want it through the microphone of the EAD10

@steelfuse7728
@steelfuse7728 10 ай бұрын
Or run bass, snare, tom1, and tom2 (four peice) triggers into the ead10, then into the mix, with 2 overhead mics separately into the mix, and have in ears run from the mixer? Please excuse my naiveness I'm new to all of this haha
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 10 ай бұрын
Great question! So you can’t put overheads in as they’re already built in, but you can put more triggers on to help. You could then, like you say, put the EAD10 into a mixer and then have separate overheads go into the mixer and mix them together to get the effect you want

You could, but you’d get a lot less control over the sound. You’d get a lot of kick and snare with little overheads, you also wouldn’t be able to EQ the kick separately to the snare and vice versa. When I used it I found that the kick was very compressed and didn’t have much low end

Seems from your video that using this as a drum kit mic on a budget for a bar band would work well. Don't have 1-1.2k for a decent mic kit. Can scratch together 500 for this little guy though. Kick sounds flat, seems a separate kick mic would help pump the subs
@DrumElectric
@DrumElectric 3 жыл бұрын
it should work indeed! When I used it, you have a lot of control over the trigger level for the kick, snare (if you add the trigger), and 'overheads'. I can't see any issues at all putting this through the PA!
