How Whelen Knocked the Base Out From Under Strobe Beacons

I´ve just watched an hour-long video of a highly informed man comparing the strobe beacons. Was it ultra nerdy? Yes! Do I regret? Not at all!!!! It was lovely!

Never understood why the tops of domes were not blocked off /blacked out , or had mirror tape inside cause sunlight coming in the top reduced output. Led suffer from this too . Most now have a solid top and lightheads recessed back to reduce sun wash. . Some leds are good but halogen rules the day and strobes own the night. Aircraft and towers still use strobe for a reason .

Some were and it was a very cheap option from Whelen and LecTrik Lites, Not enough people used it though. I agree it makes a huge difference.

Their strobes are very well made, we used them as alarm indicators on process equipment at a factory i worked at a while back.❤

I love these videos, you're pretty much the only person on KZbin thats goes into depth about strobes and how they work. Out of curiosity, the pop in style remote strobes, ive damaged a couple by pushing too hard on the rubber base, is it just the three wires/legs that are potted in the rubber? And the three wires.. one is positive, one is ground and the last is the trigger?

Whelen knocked a lot of products outta the park, when I was a younger man with money to burn I was part of a sanctioned volunteer group in our city assisting police, fire and ems with traffic control, I started out with a couple of these units and a federal twinsonic, but Whelen came out with the Edge and I had to have one, the cops didn't even have any, Then I found the Arrow stick, Yep, forget how many $$$ were spent on Whelen, lol.
