Let us stop saying that Liberia was founded by free slaves or the Europeans because there were people already living there, and that goes for the rest of Africa

@abbasaquee286, I was born and grew up in Liberia until 1984. Schooled until first 3 months of 8 grade. Never, ever did I and my schoolmates learned that Liberia was founded by free slaves. We learned that when the free slaves, Congas ( slaves that were returned back while on sea) and the whites oppressors came the land was already populated with the indigenous of the land at the time. Liberia was not even called Liberia then, it was the Pepper Coast or Malagasy Coast named after the type of pepper. There were wars and numerous of wars between the settlers and the indigenous people of Liberia. Hence, that is why the first Thursday in November was celebrated as Thanksgiving Day for the settlers because they fought a war with the indigenous and won. Similar to what happened in America with the Europeans and the Native Americans. Is the reason for the celebration a good reason, I will say not really but it does not erase history and the facts are the facts. Let's try to stop trying to erase the history before 1847. All of our history is important because it shapes and defines as as a people and a nation. There is no need to rewrite what was already factually written and spoken. Remember, there are 2 types of history: oral which is passed down by word of mouth and written which is the accounts of what has happened and has been written. Great thing is, one of the respected and academically enlighten historian pregnant with a wealth of information Dr. Joseph Saye Gaunu.

How can you explain why we were blessed from being a francophone or an anglophone country, and better yet being carved up in the Berlin Conference of 1893. LIBERIA has soooooo much wealth of history to help the present day African American Community with a complete senes of identity, but yet we're stuck on this division of settlers and natives. When would we realize we have so much to benefit from working together. Ghana, Gambia and other West African countries have recognized the importance of working along with their American African Brothers (Not Conga people label), and are reaping the benefits. We need to get back to our beautiful Motto as LIBERIANS , WHICH STATES, UNITED WE STAND,BUT DIVIDED WE FALL.

Thank you so much for showing this beautiful place it is good to know that we all are the same people who has the same commonality and same believe that unite us as Liberians, even though we have some people who has evils traits in their body and soul that brought atrocities to our beloved country, we all should never allow those kind of people to do this again to our poor people, so moving forward this election I hope Liberian people will not vote for a leader who feel entitled like old man Boakia and also George Weah who fails them also, let vote for a new leader who will work very hard to bring real change, Boakia is the past and George Weah is the present and Mr Cummings is the future period
