It's so funny that we pay premium for what was essentially an unwanted waste from the cheese industry 🙃🙃. Also the fact that the protein company doesn't do much except add flavor and packaging 😒😒. We should be able to buy those huge sacks that the protein company buys and save a lot of money !!! 😏😏 (you could always add vanilla or cocoa to it yourself)

What confused me is I just got some ultra premium protein powder for the price of regular protein because they were out of the kind I wanted (no sweeteners or flavors) but the normal stuff per 30 grams is 27grams of protein and this premium stuff is also 27grams per 30 🤷 it has like a darker white yellowish tinge to it. So what's different

Glad that this is showing more people you do NOT need to pay for the most expensive brands. Protein is protein, whey protein is going to be a very high quality source regardless of where you get it. Don’t fall for the marketing, colorful labels, endorsements / sponsored influencers, buzz phrases like “lean muscle”, “special blend to promote recovery”, etc. Companies know what gets people hyped. The suggestion that they’re the only brand you can trust, the endorsements from athletes, the idea that people think “lean muscle” is a special type of muscle you can only get from specific protein sources. They rely on newbies’ lack of critical thinking skills and general knowledge. Don’t fall for it, save your money and go with whatever cheap whey you can find in bulk

In India we have one protein brand named as Avataar Whey Protein and it's the only company in India who produces Raw Whey and supplies as whey protein as well. Otherwise if I look at various other protein brand companies they basically import raw whey and do white labelling and branding of their protein powder.

@@28goldenboy Very true. I did the cost breakdown for myself like 5 years ago. It was like 3-5 cents CAD per gram of protein for whey isolates. 7-15 cents per gram for more premium brands. In comparison, eggs were 7-15 cents per gram of protein, beef steak was 21 cents per g of protein. Chicken 15 cents. Obviously whole foods contain other macro and micronutrients though. Some companies would have to add ingredients after the fact. The protein I use has chips ahoy in it. Plus there has to be some sort of processing they're not showing. This is what I assume the premium comes from.

Milk contains lots of fats, protein powder users generally need our shakes to contain a lot of protein with as little fat as possible. Also, convenience is a big factor. Being a powder, I can take my shaker to work, with a scoop of protein ready and have it all day sitting in my backpack, no problem. When I finish my traning, I just need to add water. Milk would spoil if I did that.
