That actually makes perfect sense. Everyone always says that metal will get the hottest in the sun, but it really all depends on the color as well. When I was at the park with my kids I noticed the blue metal was only warm in the direct sunlight when the black plastic was so hot it almost burned me. They should start using this idea to help the parks as well. A child is less likely to burn themselves if it was painted too. I know if I can get burned on it then it'll burn a child so they should keep that in mind.

Painting your roof white is not really that effective. If you have insulation in your attic and good roof ventilation, the surface temp of the top of your roof has very little to do with indoor livable space temp. Spend the money on a power vent or more attic insulation. Remember, you live 10-13 feet below your roof if you have an attic, and heat goes UP, not down.
