Part of the problem with the American discussion of racism is that it doesn't understand that racism in America is not the template for racism everywhere. In itself, it could actually be argued (whether correctly or incorrectly) that because of this, the American discussion of racism actually contains racist presumptions. But at the very least, it is rooted in a sense of American exceptionalism. Whoopi Goldberg understands racism from an American perspective - particularly, as an American black woman. That understanding and experience of racism is wrapped up with the experience of living in America, experiencing racism in America, and the history of racism in America. But because she is so centred on that particular understanding, she doesn't understand how racism manifests in other places, how it is experienced by other peoples, and how the histories and cultures of other countries have shaped racism in those places.

When she said white people fighting white people. I felt so alone and so angry. My grandfather couldn’t fight. He was taken and beaten and put into slave labor camps as his three daughters and wife and parents were gassed. It wasn’t a fight amongst whites. It was mass extermination based on ethnic racism. I don’t believe she gets it. If it’s not about her struggle it seems less dangerous. Those clan members would come for me. It might take an extra five minutes but they would come. Don’t forget the “no blacks no dogs no Jews allowed” we were under the dogs here in America. If you aren’t in my tribe I still care for you. Black America isn’t the only group that has been attacked. We have room in our hearts and we can fight hatred whether it’s directed against us or someone else. End tribalism. Please

Whoopi said what said because Jewish people are white and being Jewish is not a race it is a religion. That is was not about race. The Nazi's incorrectly called everyone who was not of their look and inferior race. Being blonde haired and blued eyed is not a race. Nazis used Jews( a religion) as a scapegoat to blame them for problems that were going on in Germany. Again Jews are not a race it is a religion and that is what Whoopi meant. She didn't say the Nazi's were right in what they did she is just using the Jewish in the correct context. That's all it was.

I am Jewish and I was raised and educated in Tennessee. I honestly feel that rather than suspending Whoopi Goldberg for 2 weeks, everyone would be better off if in this situation if they invited Jewish scholars on the subject, the head of the ADL, etc. onto the show to talk, ask questions, engage, and learn from each other. While she may have adopted a Jewish surname, she has not lived the Jewish experience anymore than I have lived the Black experience, and because of this there are going to be things she just doesn't "get." I am also angry that the story is no longer focused on the original topic of discussion, just Whoopi's ignorant but not necessarily malicious remarks. This whole thing could have been avoided if they at least attempted to find a guest like the current head of the ADL to come onto the show that morning and discuss the ban with them, but they did not and here we are.

@rainbowgirl678 I see it as punishment to Whoopi, as Blacks aren't "allowed" to say who is White, and who isn't. I've met a few Jews who claim "White", when it benefits them, a benefit most Blacks will never possess. The fact that Whoopi pointed out "Whites killing other Whites", is what angered the powers that be the most. We are all suppose to pretend there isn't such a thing as racism, when there obviously is.

@@anonymousgirl799 That was part of my point. The Jewish experience and the Black experience have similarities but also many differences. And with that said, it would have behooved them to have someone on the show who has lived the Jewish experience to discuss this. I am a white Jew but many white Jew's relationship with whiteness is troubled because of our experiences. Our whiteness is conditional based on the views of the observer, not how we see ourself. Not to mention, bigots believe we have some kind of control over the media, and crap like this just feeds that narrative when our community has bigger fish to fry. Like the Nazis roaming through Orlando. A group of them attacked a Jewish man last night and its gotten almost zero media attention outside of local news and a few Jewish publications. The media cares more about this stupid story than they care about actual Jews being attacked. Whoopi sat down, asked questions, spoke with the ADL head and listened to him. She didn't do the typical "sorry you were offended" apology we so often see from arrogant celebrities. She realized she stepped in it and actually did something to make up for it and we never see that. This effort to cancel people who mess up or said something stupid 25 years ago, etc. is tearing us all apart and my Jewishness aside, I wish it would just stop. The cancelers just hate themselves and want to bring us all down to their level of misery, when they could instead educate and create a new ally. Counsel don't cancel. The whole concept is so damn childish yet I see folks old enough to be my grandparent engage in it.

@@anonymousgirl799 You met a few Jews? So now you are making Whoopi the victim because she is black, how very convenient. The problem is that Whoopi is using the ideology that only people with white skin can be racist and black people are always victims, that is the problem. The woke ideology teaches that. which inherently is a problem in itself because it denied the reality that every race has the potential to hate another race and history has shown that. That is why the woke ideology never works, because according to it, Whoopi culturally appropriated a Jewish name for her claim to fame.

She's talking about race as discrimination in the context of skin tone. The problem with the concept of ''Race'' is that it's a social construct, not something biological, but we are still using it to define and divide people with outdated/ignorant ''racial categories'' which are mainly based on ''skin tone'', we need to get rid of that stupid method of categorizing people. When my daughter was born at the hospital, the first question I got right after I pushed her out, and she had just gotten her unbiblical cord cut, was ''What's her race?'', I was like, ''Human'', but she still got labeled as ''Mexican'', which is not even a race and I was not born in Mexico either but happen to be brown. Instead of canceling her we should be discussing why we even have to categorize each other based on skin tone? That's the conversation we should be having

@@jeffc1854 but these tests aren't even 100% accurate nor do they just give people a right to claim access to a particular group -- see people who claim to be Native but don't get a card. Race has biological / genetic element in that we as humans have adapted to our environments in ways that have yielded phenotypic differences (e.g. darker skin to absorb UV radiation). But the social reality is that humans created a system that determined who was given access to basic rights and freedom based on those phenotypic differences. And the issue Whoopi is having is that she's applying an American view of race (based on the 1 drop rule) because that's what she knows and was subjected to. But if she traveled, read, or delved more she would see that other countries and continents have their own systemic structures. She's right though that it was about ethnicity, but sometimes ethnicity also overlaps with race. She says they (the View) were having a discussion - and to be fair in five minutes, given the gravity of the topic, not everything could be discussed, delved into, rebutted against, rebuked, etc., Re: Whoopi, I have watched the View semi-regularly. I have agreed with her prerogative, and I have disagreed with her - and I am sure if Whoopi knew me - she'd do the same thing too. Though her comments/perceptions on race are up for serious debate, there is no denial in what she says about man being inhumane to man, as well as woman and child. I do not jump to the conclusion she denies the holocaust. Canceling Whoopi Goldberg is not my answer, having her sit it out for exercising her right to a view is not my answer. I think her "kind, inclusive, transparent" bosses at ABC should have made this a teachable moment (for many) and done a follow-up show - where maybe she and a limited panel with guest, and more time allotted to discuss this further.

Could I (constructively) contradict the 'teachable moment' part with two propositions? (As I'm amused no one is angrily replying to your comment). 1) I suggest the severe backlash plus human nature would make most people dig their heels deeper into their (false) belief even if it kills them. E.g. unvaccinated people with COVID. 2) I suggest Whoopi's sincere and truly believes what she said. In 2015 she's made similar (but positive) points on Rachel Dolezal and Caitlyn Jenner. I’m guessing if a white man wants to identify as a black woman then dresses as one, then what Whoopi sees is what she sees. But @Erik Andrus, I agree with all your points. I think it was nice Colbert tried hard (for at least 5 minutes) to help her. I'd have PRIVATELY asked Whoopi about the Rwandan genocide. Also it's Whoopi Goldberg on the view? Trump and Biden have said and done worse. In short Whoopi had the right intention but articulated her argument poorly regarding a false belief she's had since 2015. She said the Holocaust wasn't about race. Race was the main idea to the Nazis. You couldn't escape if you were even 1/8th Jewish decent. It's an incredibly important example of how a dominant group can otherize (say a group is genetically inferior), demonize, and then commit genocide. We've seen it happen before then and after in the same sequence. She wasn't open, on the View, to hearing anyone explain this. It was about how she was. Her perspective as a Black woman is also important but when a Jew tells her that the Holocaust was about race to the Nazis and she says no it wasn't it was just white people killing white people...I think that wasn't great.YOu have to see the whole thing. I don't think she should be cancelled and I don't think she's antiSemetic but just ignorant of facts that she isn't ignorant about any more. @@Laura-kl7vi Nazis and Jews are both Caucasian, so technically the same race. The fact that Nazis saw Jews as being of an inferior race only underscores how absurd their beliefs were. Then there's Whoopi, who actually *_is_* of a different race, and who has suffered racism as a result -- calling her ignorant because she's viewing it through that lens is just as small-minded as you're accusing her of being. The important point is that she understands what the Jews suffered and why. What name she calls it is irrelevant. (And what nearly everyone on this page is calling "racism" is wrong anyway.)

@@leavingitblank9363 Speaking of absurd beliefs how about our (including myself) collective sociological belief in 'race'? Please note, I'm not saying there isn't racism. My point here is twofold: 1) the idea of race, as a belief based on biological and scientific fact is absurd. 2) What name you call something is relevant and extremely important. But the idea of race is and idea I also ascribe to despite this absurdity. I believe what names or words are being used is extremely relevant and use the term absurd as it is also what was previously used (considering the comment isn't removed). Here are three examples showing why words and what things are called is relevant: First @Laura did use the word 'ignorant'. Resulting in examples two and three. These are in a reply to her with the terms 'small-minded', which can be seen as emotionally charged as the term 'ignorant'. The comment also implies there is a right way to use "racism", which also indicates what terms are used are relevant. There is a lot of power, particularly politically, in specific and correct use of terms. The main example to show how important it is the fact we're on a KZbin comments section discussing how Whoopi called something.

Race is a social construct and a poor one at that. Despite the current politics around Dr Eric Lander and Dr Francis Collins, Lander's said, "There's no scientific evidence to support substantial differences between groups. The tremendous burden of proof goes to anyone who wants to assert those differences". Collins has said "Race and ethnicity are poorly defined terms that serve as flawed surrogates for multiple environmental and genetic factors ... including ancestral geographical origins, socioeconomic status, education, [etc.]" Anthropologist and author Guy Harrison said, "I got more than I expected (on my first day as an undergrad anthropologist) as I heard for the first time that biological races are NOT real". If I remember correctly this is from his book 'Race & Reality: What everyone should know about our biological diversity'. In short, while I was initially amused there was no angry reply, I am contradicting myself by attempting a teachable moment which I initially stated wouldn't work. I really just think that she can't understand how one white group didn't see another group as white, so she doesn't see the atrocities done based on race but rather because of religion. While Hitler said it was racial, even he was aware that the Jewish people weren't from the inferior race of people he created to seize power by finding a scapegoat (the Jewish people). I think it was wise of her to explain herself. It also demonstrates how our backgrounds sometimes make simple things hard to understand.

It’s not view it’s history and she knows this but she is outwordly in denial of her sympathy or just don’t trust Jews as black churches teach. It was about race. The concept in Nazi ideology in which the putative "Aryan race" is deemed the pinnacle of human racial hierarchy. Members of this alleged master race were referred to as "Herrenmenschen" ("master humans") By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was postulated that Indo-Europeans (who were generally referred to as "Aryans") made up the highest branch of humanity because their civilization was the most technologically advanced. This reasoning was simultaneously intertwined with Nordicism, which proclaimed that the "Nordic race" was the "purest" form of the Aryan race. Today, this view is regarded as a form of scientific racism and contradicts the belief in racial equality by advocating the view that one race is superior to all other races. The Nazis declared that the Aryans were superior to all other races, and believed they were entitled to expand territorially. The actual policy that was implemented by the Nazis resulted in the Aryan certificate. This document, which was required by law for all citizens of the Reich, was the "Lesser Aryan certificate" (Kleiner Ariernachweis) and could be obtained through an Ahnenpass, which required the owner to trace their lineage through baptism, birth certificates, or certified proof thereof that all grandparents were of "Aryan descent". The Slavs, Gypsies, and Jews were defined as being racially inferior and non-Aryan "Untermenschen", and were thus considered to be a danger to the Aryan or Germanic master race. According to the Nazi secret Hunger Plan and Generalplan Ost, the Slavic population was to be removed from Central Europe through expulsion, enslavement, starvation, and extermination,[except for a small percentage who were deemed to be non-Slavic descendants of Germanic settlers, and thus suitable for Germanisation In the hierarchy of Nazi racism, the "Aryans" were the superior race, destined to rule the world after the destruction of their racial arch-foe, the Jews. The lesser races over whom the Germans would rule included the Slavs - Poles, Russians, Ukrainians. ... Hitler's racial policy with regard to the Slavs, to the extent that it was formulated, was "depopulation." The Slavs were to be prevented from procreating, except to provide the necessary continuing supply of slave laborers.

Thank You Whoopi and Steven for this interview. I wasn't aware of this attempt at discussion or "View" issue at all until I saw an article today and thought to look at source materials.. I gotta say I hadn't thought to look at how I've framed and re-framed the Nazi's in quite awhile. The Jewish Holocaust is the most rememberable aspect of the entire Calamity of WWII, and yes I've always seen it as a racial thing and still do. Whoopie, I can't barely imagine your surprise and .... profound whoopsie-daisy, you surely felt.... That must have inspired an intense introspection within yourself, and so many others. Thank you! To say more.... I totally understand and agree that the Jewish Holocaust in WWII is real and profound. I also understand that the Nazi's started with opportunism & scapegoating. And as much went after a popularly perceived vulnerable power structure as anything. Capitalizing on societal racism whether or not they initially believe the words they were speaking. In the end, and all along the way, it was Us vs They-ism. Yes, religious and racial lines are more blurred now. And I think Whoopie was getting to this. And her point that Nazi Germany's aggression outward towards other nations knew no racial bounds, [from my typical American perspective], should be considered. It takes away nothing from the Jewish holocaust. But it benefits us all from shining light that bigotry, racism, -isms, put us all at risk, the whole world at risk, more than we can imagine. I realize after writing this that I forgot how self-assured the self-identifying concept of Aryan-race was within Nazi Germany. Or how other European peoples may regard themselves or others. [Something as an American I can't relate to, "Caucasians" now being so intermingled from origin nations / peoples in mindset.] So... this aspect negates some of what I wrote, but not the underlaying Us vs Them aspect. So again, Thank you Whoopi and Steven for this interview.

@@spoolafool I'm glad you asked that question! The answer is actually that this was changed after WW2. It wasn't until after WW2 that Jews were considered "white." Prior to WW2, applications did actually distinguish them. Fun bonus fact: Even after the inclusion of Jews as White on formal applications, many institutions, such as even Harvard or Yale, still did not accept Jews until the 60s and 70s! So, in context: The War with the Nazis was about race, because at that point (and to many people), Jews were not/are not considered white. There are also Jews from North Africa and the Middle East, so this blanket statement that "Jews are White," can be problematic. So, even to this day, though many people legally consider Jews as "white," they historically are not/were not. @@spoolafool Ha! That is a damn good question. Basically, after the Holocaust, it became a political tabu for governments to treat Jews as a separate race. Over the decades, "white" just became an umbrella term for anyone from Europe, Middle East and North Africa. We were included after the Holocaust as a way of helping Jews to be less separated, so we absorbed the label and some of its privileges over the decades. I think in 2022, most Jews with light skin would just call themselves white, but what I'm saying is, historically that was not always the case. The thing is, whatever box we check on applications in 2022 is really irrelevant. The debate about whether the Holocaust was about race, which Whoopi said it wasn't. Before/During WW2 +Holocaust = Jews not white. Racial conflict with Nazis. After WW2/Holocaust = The Western world considers Jews "white" on documents. Whoopi says the Holocaust wasn't about race = False How we are labeled or identify ourselves now doesn't really matter in context to what Whoopi said. Whoopi said that Nazi Germany was not about race, and that is a historically false statement. She is judging Nazi Germany's standards of race with her modern perception of what "white" is. Regardless of whether Jews are considered white today, Jews were a separate race back in WW2 times. Still, antisemitism exists, especially among White Supremacists, who also consider Jews different. www.nytimes.com/2020/10/13/magazine/im-jewish-and-dont-identify-as-white-why-must-i-check-that-box.html www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1086/210335?journalCode=ajs

The Dutch will be able to point me out of a crowd as a potential foreigner. Sometimes people will address me in English when first contacting me and I often get the question where I am from, despite my fluent Dutch. It's a very American approach to refuse to view racism in any other context other than the American racism to which you have been accustomed to. The fact that racism does not grow, or show itself in the form you are not used to in other contexts does not therefore mean it is not racism, or that those actions are not racially motivated. The fact this even needs to be explained is baffling.

It's still the same thing, just manifested differently on the surface. Not the Leftist garble that you are asserting. Many leftists are defining rasicm as a system of oppression aginst people of color, which is complete bullshit. Racism is the belief that another race is inferior or that ones own is superior, and that one can judge the traits of another based on their race. All because certain people feel like it was all about the Jewish people. which I could see why they would feel that it was all about Jewish people. Because of how many of there people that they killed. annihilating... it wasn't all about the Jewish people. It was about having control and making a pure Aryan race which leaves a large gap of people to torture , attack and kill and murder off. The term comes from the word Christ. What does Jew have to do with the religion of Judaism? There's no God or prophet called Jew. The reason we are Jewish is the same reason someone native to Germany is called German. We come from the land of Judea and are therefore Jewish. Even when Steven throws her a softball and says “but do you understand that the Nazis saw it as race” she literally say “well no, because the Nazis lied.” Despite having clear documentation of them saying “the Jewish race” over and over, in order to keep from truly admitting she was wrong she just tries “no, see, they lied.” She’s not apologizing, she’s saying “because a small part of what I said contained a valid point, I refuse to see the rest of the issue and [SHE LITERALLY ENDS THIS WAY] I just won’t talk about it again.”

Yes, in today's time WE know that we're all one human race but there are modern time neo-nazis and Nazis from the 30s/40s that based their whole schtick on how Jewish people were a "race" of people. And then they took the next step which was to dehumanize them, an spout off that they were genetically inferior which opens the flood gates for them to systematically eradicate them from the earth. Also the quote you wrote was written in the 60s which was 20-30 years AFTER World War II.

People look too deep into these things. The treatment of Jews by the Nazis and the treatment of Black Africans in say America in the 1800's is no different. It's the victimisation and discrimination of a certain ethnic group because they're seen as being different. To try and somehow say one is different over 'word classification' is quite frankly embarrassing. Both were horrific and appalling.

I think it's important to note that scientifically respected studies have been done that show Jewish people several generations removed from the Holocaust have literal PTSD from events they never experienced personally while living in countries that made it illegal to use Nazi symbols, songs, and clothing. Those laws exist to this day. The USA has never acknowledged it's atrocities against it's Black citizens appropriately let alone try to correct the racism that is built into this nation's very foundation. I find it interesting at the very least that we've never thought it was possible for Black Americans to have the same PTSD considering in 2022 it's STILL not safe in the USA for Black Folks. We are traumatizing Black People on the daily in this country. Give Whoopi a break. She spoke from the perspective of her lived experiences. Let's not forget Guiliana Rancic said she felt Zendaya smelled like patchouli and weed because she wore dredds to the Oscars. Her CoAnchors had to literally quit before the situation was addressed. "Goldberg is my name-it's part of my family, part of my heritage, just like being black", and "I just know I am Jewish. I practice nothing. I don't go to temple, but I do remember the holidays." One account recalls that her mother, Emma Johnson, thought the family's original surname was "not Jewish enough" for her daughter to become a star. Researcher Henry Louis Gates Jr. found that all of Goldberg's traceable ancestors were African Americans, that she had no known German or Jewish ancestry, and that none of her ancestors were named Goldberg.

Here is where her thinking is insensitive and very wrong: The nazis just like all other bigots looked for a social construct to define/box the Jewish people into segments that they could distinctively oppress and they decided to use race when they truly meant ancestry. So to the nazis, it was about the “race “of the Jewish people from my understanding the Jews considered it to be about faith, legacy, and ancestry. So yes it was about race but only because that’s how the nazis quantified it. Race is what we see (distinctive physical characteristics) which to her point is accurate the KKK might pass her friend by in pursuit of her based on race.

I get entirely what she's saying. I think the issue is that she frames "racism" entirely in ultra-American terms. So, to her, "race" means skin colour. So, *in her own vocabulary* she was not saying anything offensive and quite the opposite. But, unfortunately, that is not a vocabulary that most people (certainly outside America) would ever use in matters of race, and particular not with the Holocaust, when Jews were portrayed not only as a different race that offended against Nazi ideals of "racial purity", but almost as a separate species. So I do not think what she was saying was ill-intentioned at all. She was trying to say that it was an issue that transcended "mere" racism. But her frames of reference were so off that she ended up implying a very different message, and she perhaps would do well to learn that her understanding of "race" is very, very, very different from that of many around the world so that she does not express herself like this again.

@@dreamervanroomI don't think we disagree, what you wrote is how I took her last sentence (I was typing on my phone so the concise version might have lacked nuance). But it's quite telling that she would argue that Nazis might have said it was race based but because Nazis were liars then it wasn't really about race... Her view on race is completely tainted by a modern "intersectional/antiracist" view of racism, purely based on skin color and that can only be really understood by black people. But the concept of race has had different meanings across time and geography. Jews have undeniably been persecuted for centuries prior to the Holocaust (i.e Pogroms). And as you pointed out, they also come in different shades. Anyway, this interview didn't help her case, she would have been better off leaving it at her initial written apology.

As an individual of Jewish ancestry I find that we should always be alert and on guard for threats which do exist and are present everyday, but the view is not an international and Whoopi Goldberg is a child of this country and in this country in which she was speaking on the show and when she was speaking she spoke as she sees it and as the system here had made it. I also caution the same way that people Rush to jump on controversy for the sake of controversy she did not say anything that would denigrate or insult me or others like me as someone of my ancestry. She is very correct that most Jews are visibly especially seeing as white there are black Jews well many of them and she is very much pointing out that she can't just hide her color that is something that is unalterable as is our ancestry but our ancestry does not lie in our skin color and the trauma that is specific to the African-Americans in the United States was that they were guilty because of the skin color which they could do nothing to hide they couldn't lie and say that they were oam white and be believed because they were the same color, I could convert to Christianity and in most cases begrudgingly they would accept and I would look in general cases just the same as the others of the dominant Society African Americans have their entire time and experience on this continent not had that ability they could not run from themselves and that is not something that I dare ever try to take as a personal issue with an African-American because that is something I could never relate to because I have never had to know that existence which they do everyday from just traveling to school or going to save lives they face and constant threat due to nothing other than they're simply the skin color that is something that only they specifically here no engine speak on in this situation now I would caution people to discuss it but don't attack this woman for something that we in her own home country and on National Television and tell her that she doesn't know what she's talking about it is a situation where delicacy is necessary but she ultimately has a personal undeniable and unassailable argument and should not be attacked for the sake of drama in selling covers of stuff in this country on which the airwaves that her show is and she was that is the reality first and foremost is that she is the one who has to fear being gunned down for no other reason than her skin color and the proof is so thick in the pudding it's not pudding it is blood blood-soaked flash of people who were used as though they were not human and nothing has been done to address it or to help them to heal from it we worry so much about the white reaction to it how old the majority how will they vote they are not the victims we first and foremost must heal the wounds inflicted and that in this case is not up to a majority vote situation this has got to stop especially if you believe in any type of higher power this is evil you have got to start making healing you attacked this woman for only expressing what she has seen with her very eyes and If you deny it as white individual you shame yourself and I say that as a white Jewish man and we as a nation have got to stop the he'll never ended assault on our entegral Brethren the African-American we need to start healing, this woman spoke no offense to me either nothing or say that was wrong I do understand that I don't see it that way but I understand as well as both we are Americans this is undeniable for her I have never lived in this reality and therefore I stand by every single word she said! @@Camila28 The fact that there were still "Jewish tied" German hierarchy changes the whole issue, IMO. Whoopi was right too when she said that in order to 'show' Jewish people, the Germans had to research/work for it, then hand out stars and put out laws that the stars had to be worn by Jews in order for them to be outwardly noticed. In the end, discussions about the Holocaust can't honestly happen because to do that would label people who might have different opinions/insights as anti-Semitic or what have you, when the person isn't, as this perfectly proves.

It did... But I also don't think she meant any harm. She just sees racism as something to do with skin colour, and I think a lot of people do. Myself included. I mean, are Jewish people white? Yes, some are. (Some are also black, and any other skin colour.) So if you see race as something to do with skin colour, her view makes perfect sense. I don't know why we should attack her for that. She agrees Holocaust happened and that it was an awful thing, and she doesn't have anything against Jewish people. She just sees race as something to do with skin colour.

@@christopher399 Yes to race being a social construct. 100%. 1. Depends on your definitions of “attack” and “harass”. Should she be marched through the streets while a handbell guy goes “Shame!” And rotten fruits are thrown?? No. Am I going to shed a tear when she gets angry social media comments? Nah. People should be free to speak their minds. 2. Here’s what people, mostly on the Right, don’t get about being “cancelled”. If she gets fired, it is the network’s decision because they want to protect the profitability of their show. Now unless you want an authoritarian state that forces businesses to hire Whoopi Goldberg, or an authoritarian state that forces people to watch her, the network is gonna respond to the current reality. There isn’t some invisible judge going “Your crime was a sloppy comment about the Holocaust, and thusly you are fired”. That’s not real. There are only consumers on tv and social media, and profit-driven companies. Whoopi’s job is being a relatable person that brings in viewers. The moment she fails at this, or thinks she is paid to be a philosopher, she is letting her titanic ego cost her the easiest gig on Earth.
