How Wide is Too Wide? 10.5 inch wheels + 285 series tires - Will they fit? Infiniti M56 M37 Q70

We are trying to figure out the widest wheel + tire combination that can comfortably and safely fit on these vehicles without modification. Here are specs on the wheels in the video:
Infiniti Q70 sport wheels

Great video. I recently ordered 20 inch x 9 inch wide, American Racing rims with an offset of 35. I was worried they would stick out too much but your video shows those 10.5 and 25 offset rims didn’t stick out that much, and mine would stick out les than those. Thanks

Great video. What's strange to me is that some sites say that the minimum width tyre that can be used on a 9" wide rim is a 255, and the standard fitment is 245 on cars with these sport wheels. The particular brand of tyre on my M37S looks way too narrow for the rim and the rim sticks out beyond the side of the tyre. It looks bad and the wheel is horribly exposed to curbing. I'm trying to decide whether to go with a 255 or a 265 as replacements.

Late notice, but better late than never, right? I agree that the 245 leaves quite a good portion of the wheel face exposed, but I know that the minimum width recommendation can vary between tire manufacturers. I know of people who have gone to 255 with minimal perception of the change, but there are others who go as wide as 275. The vehicle feels a little different with that large a difference, but to some people, that is desirable.

I like Continental tires, so I usually go by their spec sheet. Depending on a few different factors, they can allow as low as 225 on a 9" wide wheel. Now, will it look good? That is subjective, but hey! The option is there. Working backwards on this, they say the 245/40/20 tire can be mounted on an 8, *8.5 (ideal width)* , 9, or 9.5" wheel.

Test fit a rear GTR wheel on the FX50. Would like to see how that looks and could be a lighter wheel option too.

I have 10.5” wide 22” rims on 305 lexani tires. Probably the best fit for the FX or qx70 cars with a 38 offset.

@@austinwill3120 Not going on the track w my vehicle. Not to brag but found these $5k wheels for $1000 brand new on OfferUp. Killer deal. Skeptical of the offset and it was perfect when I dropped it. Living in Chicago so needed the forged strength on these puppies to deal w the pot holes. I don’t have rubber-band tires so that’s a plus. Did my hw on the tire sizes. I’m just satisfied. Looks and closest to oem performance. No camber.

@@austinwill3120 I could do it, but I know it's going to look goofy because I won't have the right tire for the FX. There are people who have done it though, and I have seen them in the Facebook group. I think most people just use the GTR wheels staggered on the FX. Then, quite popular as well is running 4 rear wheels for people that want aggressive stance. I don't know of anyone that has done this, but running a set of all front wheels will keep you close to factory specs, while dropping down to 20s for comfort and more tire choices.

@@EdBwoy They were one of the lightest OEM 19's at the time. Not sure that still stands. At 19lbs vs 26 for the M 19's, they'll help the car feel a lil more agile. Pair that with BC coilovers (at their higher ride height and softer setting) and some Akebonos and you have a much nicer driving car.

It’s my turn to ask for help. Normally our Infiniti’s Q70 right on a 245/40 ZR20. Currently my 2015 Infiniti Q70L RWD 3.7L is riding on a set of 255/40 ZR20(101Y) XL BSW Michelin pilot sport all season 4 with OEM suspension with a static fitment so I can rotate them. Has anybody installed a bigger size without having rubbing issues? Or am I already maxing out the width? Keep in mind that I am not planning to lower my suspension or installing any coil overs at this moment. My Q70L is my daily driver and use it for ride share. I just want to give my OEM 20 inch wheels a little more sidewall protection. Any thoughts? Please don’t give me any smart ass answers. I’m looking for real technical advice. What’s the next size tire I can use without having any issues keep in mind I will keep using Michelin.

Did you ever find an answer to this? I need tyres for my M37 and hate the stretched look of the standard 245's. Plus it leaves the rims horribly exposed to curbing and I want to mitigate that. Are your sidewalls vertical / square using a 255? Thanks.

Personally I think 10.5j +25mm square is the best for this car. Gives it an aggressive look.
