Save the Lowers for the regional California contests, or a stop on the champions tour other than the last event. Amongst all the lame things the WSL is done is to use Lowers as a platform to crown a champion. It's a soft California wave, and while rippable there is no consequence and should never be a factor to decide a champion

Personally i detest competitive surffing, im an old dog and surf has always been about sharing and a lack of ego. Competitions just dont appeal to me.

Never surfed a heat again . After my best friend at the time dropped in on My perfect tube ride in competition. Competition will make people do stuff they wouldn't do normally like build a platform on a pristine reef or cut off a friend. Competition will only show our weakness in the end physically, mentally and societal. It's a double edged sword. Dog eat dog instead of love your brother. That said, Let the games begin! Woot Woot

How come the men and women are picked in different numbers from certain previous events?

I'm not sure on that one! I think because the Women's Championship Tour, has less competitors (than the mens), but the olympics has equal mens/womens competitors, so they had more from women able to qualify from other events (ISA, etc)...
