The trajectory of my life and no doubt my attitude along the way has led me to where I am today - and that is, quite a solitary man. I largely work alone and the small community where I attend Mass is quite...introverted for want of a better word. I am divorced and my children are grown and quite estranged. At work I do have colleagues whom i would class as friends, but I drive a bus and so spend the large part of my shift alone and merely having fleeting interactions with people. I enjoy my solitude and my time in God's presence, but I often pray for more fellowship. I receive a lot of my fellowship from youtube videos such as this and with the other generous priests who post along with Bishop Barron who has become an important spiritual mentor for me over the last few years. This certainly helps me feel less alone. I hope that I have not become so set in my ways that I am beyond welcoming healthy fellowship. I've been walking largely solo for some years now and so am used to doing my own thing.

HA. Prayer does nothing. 330,000 little boys in France were raped by 3,000 catholic pedophile priests, and it barely made the news, because people EXPECT that from catholics. So maybe prayer did help you get away with running the world's largest child rape syndicate.

I agree that healing the sick is completely possible, even in this modern day and age--yet only through God, as All Power is of God. If we try to strain and focus and will healing, even acting so spiritually, our greatest travails will fail. But healing would be done through another person, as we are made for each other, for usefulness. And the healer would have to use their will too, not just passively standing back and allowing God to heal--but it is like we have to will to move and act to work in, say, a soup kitchen.

Good homily Bishop Barron. And, yes, Robert Duval's film THE APOSTLE is a good movie. I should rewatch it. I saw it in the movie theater when it came out in the late 90's. Also, as you mentioned, Philip Jenkins is a good writer. His book THE NEXT CHRISTENDOM: THE COMING OF GLOBAL CHRISTIANITY is a very good book. I, actually, met Jenkins in 2006 when he have a lecture at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA about Christianity in the third world.

Your last homily, bishop, confronted me with the radicalism of discipleship. This one reaches deeply into me on two fronts: my tendency to « by myself » as a governing modus operandi and my on-offedness of effort in doing God’s will. To paraphrase you: « There is much more to being a christian than being a really good person who attends church ». Following Christ is not for the faint of heart. That message is sinking in. I would love to hear a whole long form talk about how the worker is worthy of his hire, and a good worker deserves to be paid doubly. You could contrast a happy response to this with how Paul had to approach the Corinthians, painting the backdrop of their failure to engage in spontaneous giving as robbing the other churches to pay for their spiritual teaching & care, after drawing a direct comparison with them and the generosity of the relatively poorer church in Macedon. It would also be interesting to hear how priests, prophets, and rabbis were financially supported in history. It might shock this current age.

May they ever be, more than merely consoled when exhausted; yet also, rejuvenated, strengthened, delivered of afflictions, and infused with renewing ardor. 🙏 May The Holy Spirit advocate for the true, the good and the beautiful in Christ's Church, in His Kingdom both in the world and in heaven. 🕊 Fully enlivening His Church, may God The Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ grant that only His Word, forever be her voice, that His care in all ways, be her guide, and that His mercy and grace be her divine salvation. ⚓ May God The Father, unite all those He calls in faith, hope and caritas towards one eternal adoring embrace of God, as He exists in heaven in His three persons, in His Angels, and in all His children on earth and in His heavenly kingdom.🪔

In the commentary of the sending out of the 72, I feel it is necessary to include Luke 22:35-38. Otherwise, we create an expectation God never meant for us, mistakenly switching presumption in place of trust. When God asks you to go out on a metaphorical limb, obey with trust in the same was as Job, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Stephen the martyr, and countless others. Firmly grounded in His ultimate goodness and care proclaim, "For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."

@eduardohoover21272 жыл бұрын
@@enriquethegreat7847 You don't receive absolution by confessing to God directly nor salvific grace especially for sins unto death ie mortal sin. 1 John 5:16. If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. This sin must be confessed in the Confessional. The apostles were given the command and the power to forgive sin or retain them directly from Jesus. The priest acts in Persona Christi in the confessional as part of his duty of the apostolic succession. Confession is a Sacrament and where the divinity of Christ is shared with the penitent. God Bless! Come back to the Faith and be filled with the Holy Spirit you received at Baptism reconsecrated every time you bless yourself a with the Holy water as you enter or leave the nave of the Church. Be filled with the Living Bread come down from heaven in the Eucharist that permits Life in Jesus, His salvation for you.

@@enriquethegreat7847 I also confess to God, but also every few weeks to the Church/Christ in the person of a priest. In the early days, confession was done in groups ; for major offenses a penance was given that everybody knew about and it might last for years. The Irish missionaries instituted private auricular confession in the first millennium. I think that was an improvement; now the seal of confessional privacy is absolute so it is the Church/Christ giving the absolution but nobody else knows about it. "Whose sins you shall forgive are forgiven; whose sins you retain are retained." (Implies a judgement on the confession is made.) God bless you and bring you peace.

I'm so terrified of stepping up. I have no clue why, but I've done so much internal work, clearing out sin and taking up virtue. The next step is definitely what Bishop Barron speaks to here, taking a bigger role in the Church and evangelizing the world, but every time I try to I get cold feet. I think it's probably fear of demons. "New levels, new devils" as they say, and I think I'm afraid of that. It's like Jesus' story of the unclean spirit that was cast out of a man who came back with 7 spirits who were more evil than the first. It was hard enough beating the ones I've been dealing with. But I can't tarry here, none of us can. They want us to fear them, but God is greater than any evil spirit. Through the Love of God, the intercession of St. Michael, and the Sacrament of Confession we can beat any evil that afflicts us. Let this be a reminder to myself and to anyone in a situation like me that it's time to move. It's time to answer the call. There's a spiritual war to be won, and Christ needs His warriors.

Small way of Evangelizing: Bring something to a breakfast, lunch, or dinner table when out in the public. Bring a very small statue of Our Lady or Her image. The best are Our Lady and Christ child. Make a prayer of grace. Turn your eating into a liturgical expression. Take time eating out or at home in aa much as at Mass. Think! The Liturgy still proceeds after Mass, because you still and hold the Blessed Sacrament you consumed and received, the most noblest of food as His Body and His blood retains in us His Bllessed feast from Cana to the Last Supper. Every other food is the less nobler. And yet, you can have them Blessed during grace, as Chrjst blessed the fishes and loaves. And they multiplied. That is my little take on Evangelizing. Bishop Barron, thank you for your insight and gifts in the Church. Our culture, homes, families, and traditions need it. Thank you,

This was as always both enlightening and enriching. Made, as we are, in the image of God, we are relational beings, so salvation is not an individual pursuit. But beyond the relational aspect, being sent out in pairs also mirrors the animals on Noah’s ark being saved from the flood in pairs. And why is it 72 people who are sent out? 72 = 6x12, which brings to mind the six days of Creation and the twelve tribes of Israel, which signify all of humanity. We are all called to evangelise and bring healing, so that together we can be made whole. All of Creation is redeemed when the peace of the kingdom of God has come near.
