QT's hair struggles are so real, and something I also struggled with so here's my info dump on the topic cause I got really into fixing that for myself this past year. It looks like she has super fine hair like I do and I also bleach my hair so hopefully it's a similar fix to what I found helps. I personally found that K18 or Olaplex #6 straight outta the shower helps a lot with frizz, breakage and overall having my hair look healthy. These are expensive options but at least for Olaplex #6 (which is what I personally use) a little def goes a long way and I use like a pea sized amount in my palm, rub it like you're lathering shampoo between your hands and then apply to the hair, avoiding your roots. After that I use a very minimal amount of oil only on the ends (earlobe and lower) avoiding the scalp helps with the greasy look. I use the olaplex oil too cause it came in a gift set and I use like 3-4 drops only. Then blowdrying the roots also helps with the greasy look a lot. I'm lazy and don't want to take the time to fully dry my hair cause it takes a while so I just mostly dry my roots like 80% then go about my day. A new thing that also started helping was finding my hair porosity and then finding shampoos and conditioners that work with that. Hair porosity is how open the hair folicle is, so if it take a while to get wet and takes forever to dry it's probablyy low porosity, and if it gets wet immediatly and dries quickly it's porbably high porosity. if you have low porosity then you have to use lighter products as your hair won't absorb them as easily and they weigh down your hair and add to the greasy look. Bleached hair tends to open the hair folicle due to damage but that's not always the case as even after bleaching my hair for years I still have low porosity hair. You can test it at home by putting a strand of hair in a cup of water. If after a few mins it sinks it's high porosity, if it stays in the middle of the cup its medium and if it stays floating it's low porossity. I hope this can help someone even if QT never sees this lol

QT for help with the breakage: 1. Do not blowdry. You will torch it and then it gets more dry so just leave it in and let it puff for a while. If its well hydrated - it wont frizz. 2. Leave in conditioner with a strong keratin base is your best friend! That shit is a LIFE SAVIOR. Im not sure about NA but in EU - elseve total 5 repair has a leave in conditioner thats fantastique. 3. Obviously dont condition your roots but when you're conditioning - use a keratin based strong conditioner and leave it for 5 minutes each wash. and finally - hair oil ONLY goes on the ends. Do not use hair oil on the roots. People who suggest hair root oil are not at all trained dermatologists, since that will clog your scalp up and cook your hair's natural oil production.

sulfates are fine, parabens are safe and silicones are also fine (they do not cause hair loss). i think her hair would benefit from (like you said) a clarifying shampoo, but i also think she would benefit from silicones such as dimethicone and amodimethicone, and also protein ingredients (keratin, hydrolyzed collagen, pea protein, silk protein etc). rice water is a good at-home protein treatment (eggs and mayo work too). as for sulfates it depends on how her hair responds to it, like if it's too drying or not, so she could totally try a lighter shampoo with no sulfates to see if it helps. also all oils, butters, silicones and protein ingredients build up on the hair after some time, so a good clarifying shampoo *without* those ingredients is important. i don't know what she should do for her leave-in. if the oil isn't working something more watery and emulsion-like is probably a good idea. maybe a leave in conditioner

Hoping to give some constructive criticism as a big fan of this podcast and a Patreon subscriber: please stop cutting QT off. It really pisses me off as a woman who also experiences this on a daily basis. Her topics are the most interesting to me and you guys are woefully underutilizing her humor by not giving the space to talk. I think there also needs to be less of a break neck pace of quickly going through topics. I don't think you need to worry so much about it being boring. We're already here, we're sold. I think some more intentionality, planning and structure would help here since a four person podcast is more difficult to manage.

As a bleach blond girly with wavy dry hair. Make sure you are getting a light weight oil (Ex. Carols Daughter or Olaplaex). And to help prevent the wet hair look start with a small amount, rub into hands, and use the praying hands method adding as needed.

Help from a girlie. Add hair oil on mid-lengths and ends. Don’t add it to your roots or it’ll look greasy (especially on blonde hair). If you have frizz around your scalp, I’d try using a little bit of moisturizing cream instead. And in general, less is more. I have thick hair and I use about one dropper full. Olaplex and Moroccanoil have nice oils if you’re looking for a new one. .1% chance QT even sees this comment lol. Even if she doesn’t, hopefully this helps some damp-looking beautiful & natural beauty out there ❤

Genuine opinion: This episode is a real change in the dynamic between everyone in a great positive way. Everyone seems genuine with their options, which at times in the past seemed very forced. A real effort has been put forth with connection which is lacking in most modern media. Everyone was vulnerable and at the same time had their opinion heard and respected by one another. I'm going to give real credit to everyone involved with putting effort to make this feel like something that "normal" people can relate to. While I have never felt like I am someone who can't relate to the things that these creator's are going through, I know that this episode really shows what is genuine about this creators. I love this POD and will continue to support, is so fun to see different perspectives and life's played out in a conversational way!

QT when you oil your hair start with only a drop or two and rub the oil between your hands, you probably need less than you think. You can add more oil if you need but only a drop at a time. Also, because you have thin hair (like me) if you think your hair oil is too heavy, you can use jojoba oil. I use it cause every other oil isn't lightweight enough!
