Just spent yesterday.. all day tryna get the belt on. Finally got new belt/alternator it on without using the tensioner by removing the two bolts for the alternator which are 14 mm and then there’s one under the alternator that’s 12. Removing both of them completely allows you to jiggle the alternator to fit on the belt. Loosening the tensioner is your best bet, but if you couldn’t find it or it’s not loosening etc. I hope this comment helps someone cause I was stuck for hours tryna get the belt on.

Peter!!! Thank you for this video! I just spent a day and a half trying to figure this out. I've watched a lot of other videos that didn't demonstrate the tensioner system anywhere close to as clearly as you did. I was about to give up. After watching your video, it only took me a few minutes. Thanks, thanks.

THANK YOU PETER! Sorry for shouting. I was broken down 1000 miles from home yesterday with my 2002 RAV4 alternator half out on the side of the road and no idea how to release the tensioner. I had to walk to a nearby business to borrow their WiFi because no cell signal there (Thanks T-Mobile) so I could look for a video on on to do it. I found yours. I really liked that you showed it with the engine out where I could see everything. The parts store guy loaned me a pipe for a cheater. I had to hold tension off with my right hand above me while I reached under the car to slip the belt back on. I felt so damn acrobatic when it slipped into place. I've driven about 600 miles since then and she's all good. Again, Thank you!!!

As so many others have said this helped a lot. The drawing in the manual was fine but this made much more sense. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I have just bought a 2003 Camry and am watching videos to learn the common repairs on these cars. I have seen a few videos that show how to deal with a broken dummy bolt, but none mentioned that the other bolt has to be loosened first.

HI. i have Rev4 2005 gasolin. It has 81000miles and not a single part need to be changed except normal maintenance. Is it a time to change any parts or belt? And tell me if i want to change the belt do i need to time it or it is just a belt not a timing belt? Thanks waiting for your advise.

Why do you use so much that orange gasket glue? Is there some specific reason? I've used it as a very thin layer and it has never leaked.
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor 7 жыл бұрын
Hello. Well I like to use gasket glue a lot and enough. I like too use extra power like much glue. Maybe when I was in army officer, I like to use artillery fire and tank guns a lot in training. A tanks and artillery have bigger guns then like infantry assault rifle. This is a reason, maybe. Extra power and extra glue helps always.

Yea thanks but the my 2005 Celica has only 107,000 Km or 66,548 Miles, no rust at all, and paid only 4000$ CAD or 2900 $ US with full extras... A clean Lexus like my Celica would cost the double... and i'm a lil broke these days... Well Thanks anyway Bud, keep up the great work ! :)
