This is spot on regarding the removal of the engine mount in the wheel well. I struggled while following another video that failed to show this. After finding this video and seeing that I needed to remove that mount and raise the engine, I was finally able to get the clearance I needed to remove and replace the belt tensioner. Thank you very much!

I have a question. When you removed the belt on the broken tensioner you said you used a pry bar on the tensioner. Did you pry the hydraulic itself or on the actual pulley? I snapped the dummy bolt off last night and need the car back Atleast for another week before I can change the tensioner. Could I pry on the strut itself and have someone else slip the belt on? I wa shaving a hell of a time trying to get the belt on the alternator so I tried to slide it on the water pump since it doesn’t have a ridge but it still couldn’t go on and I broke the bolt after bottoming it out

After replacing the brushes on my 2005 Camry alternator I went to put the belt back on and the tensioner fake bolt snapped off. I want to replace the tensioner, but I cannot free up the lower right side motor mount. Two days of penetrating oil and tapping with a hammer including using an aluminum drift with a hammer and it WILL NOT free up. The nut is off, but it won't lift off. I tried removing the front motor mount - same thing. I cannot raise the engine to allow the tensioner mounting bolt to be removed. So now I am stuck in my driveway (this is my only car) unable to put the belt back on OR replace the tensioner. Do you have any suggestions for either an alternate method of putting the belt back on or freeing up the lower right side motor mount engine bracket from the motor mount? Thanks, John
@RBTheMechanic

Did u try impact gun? By the way if u use king prybar u still can compress that tensnor to pull the belt on I did it several time with long pry bar had the car 2 ft off the ground use the frame and put the pray par on the 12mm bolt and pulled up on pry bar as ur pushed down on tensnor might need another persons help. Also lot of people said they replaced that tensnor without removing mount idk how but worth the attempt
@itsjustdad
@itsjustdad Жыл бұрын
@@RBTheMechanicI Impact gun on the motor mount itself? The nut came off, but it won't release when I jack it up. I hit the front of the engine mount (where the stamped numbers are) pretty hard with a baby sledge, a hammer, and a hammer with an aluminum drift after trying gentle. The "king prybar" method you are describing I don't understand. Which 12mm bolt? The lower piston of the tensioner has a 14mm nut. The tensioner mounting bolt (that doesn't clear the body) is also 14mm. You can't remove the lower piston mount on the tensioner from it's sleeve without removing the upper 16mm piston mounting bolt. Sorry, could you elaborate. Thanks, John

Hello, I went ahead with the job by jacking up the engine and removed the belt tensioner. As expected, it was easier to access the bolts and I managed to get them loose. I then pulled the low pressure hose off with relative ease too. Then I encountered difficulty with getting the banjo nut loose for the high pressure hose. It has literally seized up, as much as I tried, to the point the nut has now rounded. Any tips on how I get it out without damaging the hose. I don't care about the nut anymore, it will be replaced with a new one along with a new gasket. Use a flame gun? Or applying some penetrant mixture might be better for the job? Thank you.

Just thinking out loud. This tension system here don't seem like it would lose tension with this kind of design. Like what could go wrong with it? So in that theroy couldn't I just change the pully itself? Maybe Toyota made it like this cause you really don't need to replace the tension system as a whole. The reason I think this is I've replace about 30 of these type tension systems from several different models and types and not 1 of them had any less tension than the new one. Can I hear thoughts on this? Nicely please.

I replaced two of these. Seems that the little shock goes bad or breaks inside the plastic housing if you pry the belt hard? In guessing? But I'm in my third and removed tensioner easily now the tensioner won't mount as the shock is short from the stud. I'm thinking it's broken and not extending the shock.. just like my others I've encountered. I'm getting a replacement tomorrow so we'll see if I'm right!

Now u will have lot of clearance and once u have the belt routed leave it off the water pump that will be what u slip the belt on last but the truck is put the tool on and rool has to be like 45degree pretty much it has to point at ur belly button don’t try to push the tensnor with tool straight up it will never compress and u should be able to put the belt on just be careful don’t hurt ur self

Thanks for posting this video. I followed this and just replaced the tensioner and pulley on my 2002 Camry. I had a question on jacking from the oil pan. As I was jacking up, slowly and not too high, I started getting sparking going on from the top portion of the motor. I stopped jacking and slightly lowered the motor. That stopped the sparking. I disconnected the battery (- terminal) and continued on. Job complete, all works but now the idle rpm is quite low (400-500rpm) and the engine wants to stall. Any thoughts on why? How do I repair that? Thanks and keep posting!...update, I learned anytime you disconnect the battery, the computer needs to “relearn” the sensor settings and whatever else, in this case the idle speed, after driving for about 20min. all was well. Stiilcurious about that sparking that occurred during the lift?

Because 19 mm at the top was already broke off when I purchased the car( didn't know that at the time). A few months ago changed alternator worked using top hydraulic bolt I think 14mm. Well the alternator ( new from Auto zone) was faulty. So when we went to replace it. The 14 mm did not work kept spinning. Ashley Banks yeah I know exactly what u mean that’s y I described the 50 degree angle it usually brakes if u try to push the tensnor at 90 degree but anyways I have dose the same. U have to jack up the car higher and use long pry bar I use almost 4ft long pry bar that will do the trick u can grab it from by the wheel area but car will need to be more higher to fit in the longer pry bar and it will go in smooth
