40 years ago I was a US Air Force pneumatic/hydraulic technician on the Titan II ICBM in the Wichita Kansas area. Our shop not only repaired hydraulic functions on the missile but also the pop-up antenna (that automatically raised after a nuclear attack), plus the locking lugs on the blast doors (these were the huge doors made of ferro-reinforced concrete in between the silo and the launch crew area to protect the crew long enough to turn the keys and launch the missile). Since our job was only to make sure the "bird" would actually work if the nuclear apocalypse happened, the Air Force taught us absolutely nothing about surviving a nuclear war, probably since it was pointless, and that was fine by me. Because one thing I realized on my own right away about surviving a nuclear war, is that I have no interest in surviving a nuclear war.

Not nearly as much as you'd think. Its not as hard as you think to spot large classified projects, even if we don't know exactly what they're working on you can normally get a vague idea. You cant make a classified plane without hangars, ships without dockyards, missiles without silos... As far as nuclear warfare is concerned theres not much point in making more powerful bombs when you can already bring about this much devastation. Infact over time most deployed bombs have got smaller because its more effective to have lots of lower yield bombs than a few large yield ones. If anything nuclear tech is dangerously under-invested in. They can't upgrade the Minutemen ICBM's anymore because the tech in them is so ancient that no one knows how they work anymore

The United States military has satellites that have the capability to neutralize both ICBMs and enemy satellites. Why destroy enemy satellites, satellites is what guides ICBMs. Secondly, when the "Star Wars" program was proposed. America has satellites with nuclear payloads. When any of our enemies launches a ICBM at us, our satellites will incept incoming ICBMs in high Earth orbit. The United States currently has 3400 satellites orbiting earth. Indeed. Nuclear submarines arent such a big suprise attack weapon as often believed. Observed 24/7 in port by satelites the other side knows immediately when they move out. And when an unusual big amount isnt in port they would go high alert and respond in kind (also disperse mobile ICBMs in Russias case.) Every other weapon is too slow for a successfull surprise attack. Its not possible.
