Wrong! The importer will try to find cheaper goods elsewhere and not buy Canadian products. Canadian companies must quickly drop prices or lose customers.

The exporter does not pay the 25%. The importer/buyer does. Which is why you need a commerical invoice for clearance... invoice as in bill of SALE. When you order something from ebay and need to pay customs.... the exporter did not pay the customs YOU did... the importer.

Canada could export $1 trillion in natural gas to Europe annually if they would build a pipeline to their east coast but they are too worried about the damage a pipeline would do to the Koala habitat or something like that.

The cost of shipping I believe is making exports with Europe prohibitive, but a greater trade partnership with South American countries would definitively help. That being said, we have energy that can be used to counter the Bully Trump, hydroelectric, oil, other products such as wood, car parts and other higher educated product goods could laso support this effort.

You're partially correct. It's a simple "pass the cost to the customer". While it's true the imported goods are gonna be higher cost the the final step no one ever talks about is "the person doesn't have to buy it. They can move on to the next item". And this will cause shake up but it a way that helps americans overall. AND new generations of americans don't spend money on themselves. So Instead of americans paying for the goods of the world at the cost of our income tax, we can actually benefit from other countries picking up the tab.

If you shift your consumption (especially from their value-add products), the Canadian economy will suffer less. The easiest ones are things like Netflix or Amazon Prime. But their prepared foods are also pretty easy to identify. Delaying the next phone upgrade (or choosing Samsung, Nokia, etc.) is a reasonable hit. Ideally you shift consumption to someone local OR pay down debts OR add to savings. Hard to figure out which.
