Thats incredible! In 04', i was three sitting on my dads lap drooling on his keyboard making a fuss eveytime he tries to play and i want his attention. Now im 17 and now more than ever, since i watched my dad play in 2004, i want to get that classic experience. I do enjoy the content today but i understand that for some, it wasnt the same. you realize how much quality of life functions are missing from classic wow right? the game's attraction is hinged on the sweet scent of nostalgia which was thought to be forever lost in the memories, but all that interest dies the moment people realized you can access the most unbalanced, broken and painful wow experience in all its years. it is almost as though players have forgotten how imbalanced classes were, and how much time and effort it actually took to level.

I remember our guild pulling the devilsaur from Un'goro to Crossroads. There was already a raid going on (crossroads was ALWAYS being raided) and we just rocked up with a T-Rex in tow. Those were the things that made WoW. When players actually made content for themselves. When they brought the world to life by interacting with each other rather than just shitposting in Trade waiting for LFR to proc.

BC was actually pretty good. WOTLK was okay, but was not my favorite and not nearly as-bad-as MOP. Cata is where you missed out in my opinion. It was a truly fun experience leveling. WOD offered fun leveling, but that is about it. Legion is kind of junk. The artifact was a great idea and equalized some aspect of raiding - at least to me because I have the worst luck upgrading my weapons. The legion classes are super clunky and unpolished. I am looking forward to Classic, but having a sickly wife, two kids, AND starting a new career this year is going to make it difficult to level into 60. However, I will enjoy the slow grind and take my time with a big old fat smile!

I only got my human warrior to 17 then stopped playing bc I died like 10 times In a row and I got pissed off of running back to my corpse (which was like a 4-5 minute walk). This was the second Blizzcon I attended and I am so glad I did. I slept 30 minutes the night before and woke up at 5am to stand outside the Anaheim Convention Center for a few hours in the cold for some nice front row seats to what is in my opinion the best announcement for World of Warcraft in the history of the entire game. Not only did they announce a new expansion for retail and for the first time ever gave us the cinematic for it in the same ceremony, but they also gave us classic servers. I was in tears at the time, and I still am reliving this moment. Thanks for the upload.

Same here, but I think I joined late vanilla or very early BC. Born in '98 and I was 7 or 8 when I played. I was too young to know what xPacs were at the time. Plus by the time I got to 55 wrath was out and I made a DK, so it didn't really matter lol. I was an altaholic so I leveled veeery slow. I still remember doing Uldaman with loads of greys on because I always equipped gear based on how much armor it had. I did get my raptor though which felt good. Played every expansion since then except for BFA.

If it goes live perhaps 20% player base will jump there, and when they realise how UI and world was hard and limited, most of them will stop, and vanilla servers will be max 5% player base. People really think vanilla was best, but back then times were different. Also people like changes, thats why every new expansion brings big hype, since classic wow wont be updated people will get bored.

omg I installed WoW on dialup. It took 24 hours to do because the connection dropped out a lot. I had to wake up on the hour ever hour overnight to keep my dialup going. I got my first toon to 20 through blood sweat and tears before I got adsl.

To people complaining about this, you do realize that no resources will be taken from your precious retail WoW to develop Classic, right? A separate team will be handling all things Classic WoW. So with that said, I don't see the gripe with it? I can only imagine that the real issue you have with it is all the bad memories of you getting camped in Ashenvale on that PVP server you made the mistake of choosing..

I started WoW in Apr 2005, way back when MC was the only raid, and when the honor system hadn't even been established yet. I am proud that I had to WORK for EVERYTHING back in Vanilla. People who started WoW during/after WOTLK have it too easy; they don't really know how truly difficult and fulfilling Vanilla WoW was. Now they will know, and I expect some serious whining from post-TBC players after classic servers are launched. Rofl I can't wait.

LOL at people saying classic was "hard" I can remember people calling WoW the kiddie pool of mmo's. It was a joke, you could solo world quests. Mobs didn't chase you very far, you didn't lose xp when you died. Most classes were what 2 buttons max for a rotation.

@RetralsFTW And you clearly didn't play Vanilla, I said most classes not all of them. Was nothing hard about Vanilla, it was a bit of a grind and slower to level. But even for the time compared to UO or EQ, it was a joke. It was far more accessible then any other MMO, and it became a hit. Fact is the easier they made the game the more popular it got. I would also put money on Blizzard tweaking classes and the world, for the "vanilla" server to make it more player friendly.

I don’t think that vanilla wow itself is what made playing back then an amazing experience. I think it was just that most of us hadn’t experienced an MMO RPG yet, and exploring through a massive world filled with real players was an entirely new and amazing experience. People confuse that nostalgic longing sensation with thinking vanilla WoW itself was amazing.

To be honest this was SUCH an easy win financially for Blizzard. Yes it's taking about 2 years between this and the August 2019 release. But the team is relatively small. A fraction of the team working on retail. The costs will be very small compared with - say - a full expansion of retail. They have the BC and WotLK expansions there, in the game now, almost exactly as they were on release if they ever wanted to add those on selected Classic servers servers. The fact that teams of 5 or 6 enthusiasts have been able to get 95% of a Classic server running unofficially for years shows it isn't THAT much work. Sure they want to do it right. I've been on perhaps 6 private servers over the years. Never for long. Loved the game, but after 2 of them were shut down a few weeks after I joined it always felt like I was playing a game - levelling a character that could be removed at a seconds notice when Blizzard filed a law suit. So I never invested much. But I played enough to see that a couple of them really had it done very very well. Teams of 5 or 6 people running these servers and doing a bang up job. Not perfect, not exact. But almost "good enough" I play the community SWG now (legal - I won the disks and the server side is written from scratch) that took I think 15 people about 3 years to put together. Most of the team had other paid work outside remaking SWG. So yeah Classic is great. I'll play the hell out of it. But it really was a no brainer move for Blizzard. If a team of 6 can put together a very close approximation of the Classic game I 'm damn sure the original design studio could do it without breaking the bank.

What i loved about vanilla= alliance had paladins horde had shamans, no flying mounts, pve wasnt as easy no stupid gnome cars, gnomes started same locstion as dwarves, levelling took time, etc etc..

bigbullbk They're not going to re release an entire game franchise they just made. Soon they'll probably make a new Warcraft as WoW is terribly outdated in comparison to other games of our time.
