www.hypeplustv... - WuTang is considered one of the greatest rap groups of all time. With members RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard; fans would get anthems like CREAM, Protect Ya Neck, and Triumph. Unfortunately despite their music, it turns out that a few things behind the scenes would hurt the group. HYPE+ News's Terrance Sims reports. Instagram: @ComedyHype & Twitter: @ComedyHype_

Wu-Tang members didn't sabotage their careers. What kind of nonsense is this. Let's speak on this properly. For them to even have release a group album and did huge numbers and then for most of the members to have platinum solo albums. Then Ghostface and Raekwon to form an undeniable duo. Then for all to come back and do yet another album together that did huge numbers. All Rza needed was 5 years of their life and it is fair to say they exceeded their goals. They are out the hood and inspired many generations. Even Method Man is also a top tier actor and he always brings his unofficial Wu-Tang member Redman with him. Oh wait they even have a TV series documenting their beginning.

Obviously you weren’t listening correctly. From 93 to 97 was all the success that you are speaking about. After Summer Jam 97 which was in 97 The WU as a collective saw a dip in success and a tremendous part of that is because HOT 97 banned them from the radio and so did all it sister stations. In the nineties radio still played a major part in how successful your album would be. In the 90’s congress erased the regulations that prohibited radio stations from being brought by mega corporations. Emmis Corporation which owns Hot 97 and multiple stations in other markets effectively banned The WU in multiple markets. After WU Tang Forever not another WU has gone multi platinum and only Method Man’s The Blackout with Redman is any other album featuring a solo WU member that has gone platinum. Even the members admitted that the ban affected their careers. The WU has maintained but their careers haven’t been the same.

Sabotaged what? They were the biggest group of the 90s. Meth, Ghost, ODB and Rae are considered legends in the game. Method Man has had a successful career in movies and television. RZA has moved on to movies and music production. GZA. All of the members still make music. They are older now. You can't expect them to remain relevant forever, especially when music changes with time. Very few artists last as long or have a legacy as prolific as Wu-Tang.

They did the 1st summer jam, I was there. I did security for the legendary tunnel night club. Tunnel security was the most feared security in the city, So when summer jam 1st came out we got the call to do the security. Black Moon, A Tribe Called Quest, gang Starr, Arrested Development, Queen Latifah, SWV And Wu-Tang was the lineup. Arrested Development got booed. It was crazy, There was a couple of fights backstage, one was in Wu-Tang's dressing room. We did the 1st couple of summer jams and we also did security for the hot 97 float in the African American day parade in Harlem. That was a great time in hip hop🎤🔥
@ninocrown3247
@ninocrown3247 Жыл бұрын
Tunnel security looked like WWE. I'm 6'4 and felt small compared to lot of those dudes. The ones who weren't mad tall and big, where still brolic. Nothing to be played around with. Funk Flex used to be threatening dudes on the mic, if they were grouping chicks. I remember some dude smacked a chick's ass and she turned and looked at me. I just shrugged and was like don't put that on me. I saw those big mofos lurking and said "please don't run to these dudes". They asked no questions, just snatched you up and threw you out. Its also why that Wht bytch Jessica Rosenblum felt so comfortable talking crazy to Black people on the line outside. Ex-kingpin Peter Shue told Flex on Hot 97 a few years ago, how he would have put Jessica in a trunk, if she talked reckless to him and how he didn't like how she spoke to people. Never liked her azz, even before The Tunnel. After that CCNY holiday game tragedy, where some people died getting crushed against the doors. She let Puff and Heavy D take all the public criticism during and afterwards, while she left with the cash box and dodged all responsibility. Blame the two negr0 rappers and let the Jew1sh girl get a pass. I do remember Fat Joe and others say Mike Tyson chased one Tunnel bouncer around a car, who was harassing Big Pun. But in the 90s, Iron Mike was a mythical figure. Dude was knocking dudes out at an insane clip. Plus, he was a bonafide hood n*gg@, unlike most elite boxers of that time. I heard he slapped the shyt out of former Mr Olympia runner up Chris Cormier, in front of a club in LA, where he was doing security. Chris was known as one of the strongest IFBB pros back in 90s bodybuilding. Dude admitted he didn't do shyt to Mike.

@@ninocrown3247 Yeah Jessica talked a lot of shit because she knew we would back her up. She was flex's manager at the time And she definitely threw her weight around. Chris lighty was there also, We used to call him baby Chris because of his baby face. He was a real cool dude though. That was a time in hip hop that could not be recreated, they tried though in 2013 at BB kings on 42nd street. They had funk master and everything but it just didn't work. Somethings are better left alone😔

Back in 1997 I know that's when The Notorious B.I.G. passed away and he was supposed to headline the show, But they had Puffy, Ma$e, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z and others. Y’all gotta stick to comedy… sabotage their career how? - Wu Tang is the GREATEST rap group of all time.. worldwide - First album is apparently like the 37th best album of all time for ANY genre - 2nd album is iconic and apparently really bought hip hop to the UK - the RZA is one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, still relevant today with directing, scoring movies and even acting.. this guy taught Franklin Saint how to make crack and was in a movie with Denzel… - Ghostface Killah is a known top 10 rapper of all time (at worst top 15) and has atleast 3 iconic hip hop albums, one of the greatest story tellers and most creative rappers of all time - Method Man is one of the most known rap artists ever, still raps today.. redefined his career as a great actor.. who still features on songs today and remains one of the greatest feature rappers of all time… a top 30ish rapper of all time in his own right - Raekwon has a top 10 hip hop album of all time and has been featured on many hip hop classic songs, best mafioso album of all time (which says a lot if u consider the fact that Biggie, Nas & Jay-Z has mafioso albums) another top 50 rapper - GZA has a top 10-15 rap album of all time, has the 2nd largest vocab in rap history, one of the best lyrically of all time and another top 50 rapper of all time - ODB is another POPULAR known character in hip hop, has the most hits out of any Wu Tang Member… not to mention his first album was a classic as well - Inspectah Deck - One of the most underrated rappers of all time, has some of the best verses in rap HISTORY, well respected member who along with (Meth & Rae).. lowkey carried the first album that Rolling Stones says is a top 40 album ever.. Masta Killa - some memorable verses as a wu tang clan member and even an iconic verse in “Da Mystery of Chessboxin”.. a student of GZA and well respected to fans of the Wu - U-God - one of the best voices in the group who had a significant impact on that iconic 2nd album, some memorable verses as well Wu-Tang Clan is The Beatles and New Edition of hip hop. They didn’t sabotage anything.

A brilliant idea for Wu “They even stopped playing our solo records for awhile”. Wu kept it underground but did reach mainstream w/ Wu Forever. Is this what we do now? Saying people who had their time in the limelight and are no longer THE biggest thing years later simply sabotaged their careers? Nobody stays on top forever, the biggest names all age out at some point or are replaced by someone or something newer. The Wu is still a hip hop cornerstone and are fondly remembered and frequently referenced in a positive light. They're on a comparable level of iconography as classic rock bands like The Rolling Stones, Van Halen and Metallica where people who don't even listen to their music will wear a shirt with their name/trademark/logo on it. The Wu-Tang Clan are doing just fine for themselves these days and have been since their peak years decades ago. We need to cease this mindset of just because someone is not THE hottest thing anymore it automatically means their career was ruined.

One of the strengths of having a nine-member group, is you could split the group up and be in two places at once. That's what Wu-Tang should have done in that past scenario. Kept the members who wanted to stay in Europe on tour in Europe, and brought home the ones who wanted to be in summer jam. That would have kept the peace.

The saboteur was RZA. Wouldn’t let members go make money, but every time a bag was available for him RZA put his time towards that instead of focusing on the group who he forced to rely on him. To this day you can see how he is still advancing his career and opportunities while maintaining control over what the group can do. While taking a majority of the cut size. SMH. Family?

Stop smoking crack. The greatest individual success they had in music was what he created. And they still touring internationally with Nas. If that was the case members wouldn't be there right now. How do you think the HULU show helping them all eat, or the documentaries on TV?

This video is dumb. ODB had signed to Rocafella right before his death. Method Man went into acting and Ghostface still continued to drop hits well into the mid 2000's. RZA also started producing movies and TV shows. As for the other Wutang members, idk but I can say for certain that they all didn't sabotage their careers 💯

Listening to too many Industry Insiders for the Research that went into this video. With due respect to the data included and not to say any of it is inaccurate, but as someone who was around for all of this, hung out w Wu at shows in Miami, was involved in the NY-based Hardcore Hiphop scene as an Artist, this video leaves out the main reasons for Wu's descent from the apex of Hip-hop/Rap Music, as follows; 1. RZA on the cover of The Source: RZA made a lot of disparaging comments about The South, about emerging Southern Rap, Crunk that was gaining popularity and then I remember seeing them perform in Ft Lauderdale and they went in on "Laffy Taffy" and were criticizing Southern Rap, it alienated The South, also their lyrics about 5%er Knowledge, Comic Books, etc. wasn't accessible to The South, it became seen as Whiteboy shit, Fat Joe publicly joked about it, then Southern Rap kept getting bigger and eventually took over down here though some NYC Artists continued to do well. The Music changed and the new Southern style left Wu's technical and lyrical style behine, the public moved on. 2. The Quality of the Music, the Wu brand becoming diluted: 36 Chambers is the best Hip-hop album of all time, Wu is the best Hip--hop group of all time for me first off. I saw them in different incarnations, from 36 Chambers and 1st solo records-era to Forever, to just saw them in West Palm a few months ago, I've been supporting Wu steadfast since I heard Protect your Neck on the radio on Power 96, I bought all the solo albums up to a point, bought Wu Chronicles, the Killa Beez album with all of the other groups, I bought Killarmy, Sunz of Man, Iron Flag, RZA as Bobby Digital, but sadly none of it could really capture the 36 Chambers and the first few solos. These two factors played more of a role than anything having to do with Hot 97 in my view. Groups like Bad Boy, G-Unit, were taling about things that everyone in the Hood could relate to as well as anyone of the mindset, where Wu is ESOTERIC. You have to Study to understand Wu, its complex, that approach and the legacy of KRS and Rakim and so forth passed, it was the end of an era that included other Crews like Boot Camp Clique, Hit Squad, the Hardcore Hip-hop sound later called "Golden Era" and now "Boom Bap" died out in the mainstream, the so-called Bling and Southern Style, Crunk became more popular so that is bigger than any one group including Wu. Thanks for the vid, no disrespect intended just wanted to contribute to the discussion and alleviate some of this perception that Wu "sabotaged" their Career. No matter what they would have done differently the Sands of Time were changing, but they've continued to make Music, perform, documentaries, tv shows... The more folks that make videos like these talking about Wu-Tang keeps it alive, keeps them RELEVANT. Wu-Tang Forever, Forever Wu-Tang, MIAMI CHAMBER
