You're welcome Judi, as an artist myself I love the idea of doing idea comps on the computer and then using that as reference for a painting or drawing. As you say, saves loads of work and allows you to experiment more. George

You're welcome. The real power of Photoshop Elements comes from using Layers, Layer Masks, Blend Modes, and Opacity settings. This video shows all of that. George

Great tuitorial! I have been buying Photoshop Elements ever since #3. I don't buy every release, but a lot of them. I am now learning #15. I often have to watch your tutorials more than once to get more of the information you are sharing. Yesterday on the "eye color change:. I have PE15 running, and I would intermittently switch between PS15 and your paused tutorial, to execute the commands you had just gone over in the tutorial. Thanks for your hard work. I also have a 3rd party PS15 manual I am working through to ry to learn more of how to really use this incredibly powerful software.

Do you have a video that describes how to match the light and color of two photos of people that are being merged? When I try to insert someone into a photo, I have trouble with the lighting and matching the skin tones. Thank you. Your lessons are awesome.

well done george a lovely tutorial.i got side tracked away from pse15 due to the fact that i'm new to lightroom 6 but i knew by looking in at this video i would be drawing back to your amazing work and the beauty is one can switch between both. Double Exposure manipulation is something i like and these different types of Layers is what i like about pse.i did try to do a Skull Manipulation Island lol.but i think the tutorial was not explained the way you do in your videos.

Thanks Jackie, I had fun doing this one. This is actually a project I was planning on recording last summer but I just wasn't happy with the results. Decided to approach the project in a more simplified manner and that was the key. Good lesson learned for me, sometimes keeping the concept simple is the best approach. Doing Skull Island sounds like fun, I will look into that. Always was a fan of King Kong, my preference being the original from the 1930's. George

George, like these kinds of videos, you see much t-shirt art done around here using this method. Got one question, is there a way to make the soft edge brush have and even softer effect (like a gradient would). Is using a much larger brush over an active selection the best way of doing this and still keep control of what you want to reveal??? Thanks Rich
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, you are right, making the brush larger will give you a softer edge on the brush. The other way to do this is to put a gradient inside of the selection on the layer mask like I demonstrated in the last video Glamour Photo. Luckily I saved the selection in this video so that selection is available to use on the layer mask. But the easiest way is with a brush, just set the size to give you the softness that you need. George

George thanks for the response. I got one plugin, I think its On1 that has a feather adjustment on their smart brush. For me, on this subject at least, it is the same as in PSE, however, I like the control of making a selection around the item first. That one trick was what really has made the difference in my editing. I would place the one pixel when making the selection as second, it really helps control all those color aberrations, a subject that I really am hawking on my work nowadays, makes all the difference in the world on the final result. Thank you for all you do! Rich

I like this tutorial. Are you using your mouse or a pen like Wacom to make your Lasso selection? I'm have both, but I never sure which is really better. If you are using a pen I'd love to see a tutorial for Photoshop Elements users who choose a Wacom or other type of pen tool.

Hi Chuck, I do all of my KZbin videos using a standard Microsoft Mouse. Nothing special. George

George, hope you don't mind but I wanted to throw in a small sidebar on Wacom tablet and PSE. I purchased a tablet and tried to go 100% with it, the results were good but very time consuming, because of the learning curve. I still use my tablet, for one thing, that is the creation of hair on a subject. A simple brush of a hair stroke and you are ready to go. The reason why I like the tablet for this use is the pressure sensitivity allows you to create a lot of variations in the hair, some lighter, some darker, size is also easy to adjust. I would say at the end of the day, I use the mouse 97% of the time. I like the clone stamp and content aware help me out in most situations before I grab the tablet. Hope this helps Rich
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments Rich. The real benefit of the tablet is the pressure sensitive settings. It is even more useful in other programs like CorelDRAW. If I didn't have other reasons to use the mouse I would probably use the tablet all the time but since I mostly do training videos I try to keep my hardware as basic as possible so that anyone can easily recreate what I am showing. So due to that requirement I actually use the mouse 100% of the time instead. Aside from the pressure sensitivity (which is very useful) it really comes down to what you are most comfortable using. This is the exact same technique that I use in the Ghost photo. I just didn't use splatters in the layer mask. Watch the 3 videos I listed and you will see how to do the basic technique in Photoshop Elements, then just apply that to a face. I won't be doing a face version of this technique because I just don't like looking at heads exploding. George

Hello George. Whenever I want to add a canvas or sandstorm effect to my portraits, the end result looks all washed out and basically, terrible. While I am in the process of applying these effects, it looks great, but as soon as I click the "OK" button, it becomes unusable. What am I doing wrong? I am using PSE 14 but had the same issues with previous versions. HELP, please!!! Thanks.
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, the effects filters can be a bit tricky sometimes. In the preview window in the Filter Gallery it only shows you the one layer that you are applying the effect to, so if you have multiple layers and also if you are using any blend modes on those layers the effect will look different in your project than it does in the preview window. No way around this, you just have to experiment a bit to get the look right. On the effects washing out the image that could be either because of the problem listed above or because of how the filters are applied. Basically the filters merge a gray scale image of the texture with the layer you are applying it on to so it will frequently degrade that image to some degree. The way to fix that is to put an Adjustment Layer above that layer after you have applied the effect and use the Adjustment Layer to push the values back where you want them. My personal favorite adjustment is levels which you will see in a lot of my videos. If you want the adjustment to only work on the one layer then put a checkmark in the box about Clipping the Adjustment when you make that Adjustment Layer. If you want the adjustment to affect all layers below the adjustment then don't put a checkmark in that box. I will frequently have a Levels Adjustment Layer above any problem layers, clipped to that layer, and then another Levels Adjustment Layer as the top layer in the project not clipped. That gives me complete control over the values in the project. George
