As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

@@andrewtate4635 it's possibly because this dog values a touch reward more than a food reward. Either way he is just reinforcing a behavior that he is happy with. Its the same way he gives a leash pop correction when the dog displays an undesirable behavior.

This should be included when people buy dogs. Many get "offended" if you pull a dog away like in the movie. "But she is so friendly, why did you go away?"

Great clear messaging. Excellent way of putting it. Too many people want to make their dog friends with everyone and everything and not every dog wants that.

Be the voice for your dog. My dog is aloof. Doesn’t care to interact. He only loves my two other dogs that he has been raised with. When people ask to interact I simply say no and keep it moving. Might sound rude but I won’t put my dog through a situation he doesn’t want to be part of.
@Pablothedemon4202 жыл бұрын
I’d love a version of this except with a dog who is “over social” (lack of wording) but “rude” as the handler put it, my dog GSD / Boxer mix loves dogs to bits but he is very in their face upon meeting / too hyper , he settles after 2-4 minutes but I’d like a calmer approach. Thanks for the video

So is mine!! If she had a hobby it would be cage fighting!! She is small UK police bred reject. She loves ALL dogs, but her best friend since they were both 15wks old, she's 2 now, is a Leonburger male dog!!, She can, and does put her whole head in his mouth, or bites his legs so he falls ON TOP of her!! I severely limit when, and how long she is allowed to play with him!!
@DN-ye6cm2 жыл бұрын
Mine does the same, GSD mixed. I don't let her play with smaller dogs because she's clearly not aware that she can crush the others by jumping on them. Even though her intention is friendly, but I need her to not be overly excited when meeting other dogs.

@DougHinVA Жыл бұрын
There is no need to 'meet' another dog and stay out of all dog parks... all pros tell you that. It is NOT for your dog and any damage from a dog fight may mean a lawsuit. Avoid it.
@GracieandJacqsAdventures Жыл бұрын
@Doug H. in VA Jacq is 18mos old now, and we have been full-time rv-ers since July 12.. He is very socialized now and plays well with other dogs at all the meetups we go to. I will never take him to a closed in dog park.. Not because of Jacq's behaviors (he minds well) but because of other dogs, their owners, and their lack of training/discipline.

I have an American Bully that we rescued. She was mainly overbred but she obviously has gotten into some dog fights. So she hates all dogs. However, for the past 2 months we've been able to get her to ignore other dogs. But just yesterday as we were walking past this house, a kid went inside, left the door wide open, and the dog inside saw her and bolted. I make my dog wear a harness, so I was just picking her up and moving her away from the dog. But the dog got her on her cheek and Grace snapped back at her and ripped a hole in the dogs neck. Thanks to my dad he was able to get Gracie to let go and he had to put the dog back in its house. All in all, we took her on a walk again today and she obviously has been set back. I'm not angry about that and I don't know how to feel about the incident. Yeah, the dog attacked her but I don't know if it was my dog protecting itself or just bitt because that what bullys were bred for. To fight.

Would love to see video on reducing/eliminating fixation on cars that drive by (farm). Young English Shepherd. Goes into heavy breathing , hard fixed stare. Has chased a few times when we couldn’t break through to her verbally (too far away). She will sit on command when fixated now, but that just makes her physically safer, but not any more mentally stable.
@1packatak2 жыл бұрын
Just like anything else, you need to provide an adequate correction before the dog even begins to fixate. You need a leash or an ecollar. Get out there when the cars are coming. The millisecond the dog starts to notice the car, correct!!!! Strong, firm, clear. You can take a break, then go again. If your timing is right, and your correction is strong and clear, you can stop this in no more than 3 or 4 corrections. You can then reward (with whatever your dog responds to) when he ignores the car. I would continue to practice the behavior regularly to make sure he does not regress. This behavior is life threatening for the dog. The correction therefor needs to be at a level that clearly communicates to the dog the behavior is NOT allowed. Once you allow the dog to have any kind of reaction/fixation, you have “lost” the game.
