"... it's about pushing out of my comfort zone ..." Absolutely. It's such important work you're doing. Not just for yourself, but for those of us watching and listening. I was really interested in what you said: you started to not be in it for the joy and went into a 4-month break from filming. Everything that you're saying is resonating with my own creative process. You also validated my view about all the "experts" out there. We don't necessarily need to go by everything they say. Thank you so much for your channel. New subscriber.

Pretty sure this will help a lot of people, me included . I really was motivated and had a lot of ideas on what to talk about, after around 1-2 years I finally started, until then I was too afraid, but when I started I got easily overwhelmed by camera setup, editing, b-roll stock footage, thumbnails and scripts .. and I really got anxious and thought "ok this might be more about setup and scripting ideas but there's no place for my own ideas", even if I knew this might not be true . Videos like this one make me realize it's worth it to keep going, so thank you James !

Thanks so much for this share, it’s really powerful. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by these flashy things we think we need. YT‘s algorithm sent me here, after I had viewed about 2 other videos by others on the subject of getting started on YT. Your title resonated, as does what you are saying. The funny thing is that none of what you are saying is actually new to me…and yet it is resonating, and helping me to overcome my own inertia as a potential KZbinr with a busy family life and a certain lack of topical focus (so far), and yet with lots inside of me that wants to be shared. And isn‘t that one of your points, after all? That folks should not second-guess themselves about their „worthiness“ or „readiness“ or whatever, but just go for it and let the audience decide what becomes of it? As such, even if what you are saying isn‘t new to me, you happen to be the one who is tipping the scales. This can be true for ANY one of us, no matter what the topic. :-) Anyhow, I subbed immediately. Oh, and I wish to commend you on being one of the very, very few KZbinrs whom I am not forced to listen to at 1.5x speed in order to save myself from spending lots of extra time online due to slow talking. Also, there‘s nothing self-obsessed, which cannot be said of a great many KZbinrs. And no haha-hoho joviality just to set the tone or whatever. You get right down to it, and that‘s great in a world of huge media choices we all need to make so as to use our online time wisely.

This message means a lot to me Scott thanks so much for sharing. In business, I used to try and map everything out with a hyper-strategised niche, plan, focus, etc. But it rarely worked out. Eventually, the path always grabbed me, rather than me forcing a strategy. I believe YT is the same, letting the niche find me. I’m naturally curious and scattered, always having 10 projects on the go. My content might be the same, but eventually my niche is finding me. Your journey might be the same 🙏

@@thecoachingmovement Interesting to learn of how your traditionally very meticulous approach oftentimes didn‘t pan out. This mirrors my own experience in life, which is that when I forcibly (i.e. with great will and determination) try to force things in a certain direction, so as to achieve whatever I consider to be „the goal“, I often find tons of obstacles cropping up along the way, leading to frustration. Enter shadow work: When that happens, I allow whatever that all makes me feel to sink in deep, and to thank it (and the obstacles!) for showing up, since there is then obviously something I need to learn about my deeper motivations and needs. Bingo! That‘s when the (freeing!) revelations tend to occur, and after that, things flow much better…albeit not always in the original direction intended. ;-) I figure we are all masters of our own destiny, but only when we confess to being masters of nothing at all, but ongoing learners. Destiny is what happens when we stop trying to make it happen (haha). Your take on all this seems to run parallel to my own, which once again appears to underscore - for me, at least - how a more Daoistic way of approach life is more promising than being a self-willed dynamo hell-bent on so-called success. The good happens when we aren‘t just trying to keep the so-called bad from happening, instead. ;-) May your path be adorned with enough consternation to keep the revelations comin‘!

iPhone 7 is fine to get started. Audio quality is way more important than video quality. I personally usually listen to YT videos rather than watch them anyways so I’m sure many others are the same. But the most important thing is what you say and how you say it. If you have a good story, come across authentic, and display your true emotion - people will resonate
