Howard Stern is a whole universe honestly. You can start with prank calls, get sucked into whack pack stuff, before you know it you're obsessed with Richard Simmons, Gilbert Gottfried, and Mark Harris, and you start to listen to all the different aspects you can get from this show from Jackie Era to Artie Era, endless gaming stunts to raw performances from artists throughout time, to now what I'm into, the Alison time period. Honestly, I have Sirius and I haven't once listened to Howard on there, I (re)discovered him on KZbin a few years ago. I barely remember watching it here and there throughout the late 90s-00s. Once you get truly sucked in, you'll be stuck listening for years off and on. Nothing like it. A few years into Artie being there is when the obvious decline happened to some. I appreciate the show for what it's worth and the endless amount of entertainment and won't hate on them like a huge part of the fan base does. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't pure gold.

@@themightythor1974 I'm not sure that is true. Howard was VERY into Beth. Everhart was spotted in lots of pictures with him and there was a definite theme. I recall that as soon as Beth started to become getting into pictures with him and the attitude he had was smitten. It's funny how the movie "Private Parts" was basically like a love letter to how Alison stayed with Howard through everything and the firings he went through early in his career. Then they were separated like a year and a half after the movie was released. Lol. I wish Howard joked about Beth they way he did about Alison in the 90s. Beth is part of the reason Howard slowly went woke over the past ten or twelve years. She didn't want Howard to alienate any celeb friends so they'd keep getting invites to all of the cool Hollywood parties in the Hamptons. Beth just spends Howard's money and adopts cats and attends parties.

Howard was effectively living alone during the 96-97 film shoot - had a cushy apartment built on the movie set, and installed a remote electronic lock on his basement door so that he could hide down there during his nights/weekends at home. They were basically pretending to still have a happy marriage while promoting a film about their happy marriage. Fred takes a couple of indirect pot-shots at Howard’s fake deteriorating marriage during the 1996 Rainbow Room fight.

I guess you don't understand how movie scripts are fashioned, Howard used the Alison is my word angle because they had already written 14 scripts(including 2 by Howard himself) that Howard rejected because he couldn't figure out how to make him likable to all the people who already hated him from hearing about the things he said on the radio. That's who Ivan Reitman came in finally and cracked the way forward. Howard wrote a script that was very Ben Stern focused then realized his relationship with his dad wasn't gonna change the way the public felt about him.

Howard & Allison's separation was almost as disappointing as Howard Stern becoming the sell out he is today. I would totally understand Howard IF he was broke, and needed the money, but that just simply is not the case. My radio career probably was helped a great deal by Stern just because I really liked to push the envelope, but I never even heard a Stern radio show until years after debuting on air. He was never in any of my markets while on air, and was never in the market I grew up in as a child. My favorite radio personalities were Rick Dees and a local guy named Marc Summers. I loved the pranks and the characters that called their shows. I remember our Program Director, who was my main mentor, decided to take the staff out to see Private Parts. He called it a "huge mistake" because it literally argued the points I often tried to make when I was in hot water! "People DO NOT HAVE TO LOVE YOU TO LISTEN!" My radio personality is definitely a character intended for people to "love to hate." It was not Stern that I patterned my personality after, but J.R. Ewing is from Dallas and used to think of myself as a "heel" bad guy like wrestling. Hell, when I became a Program Director, I decided to storyline that my cohost on the morning show and I along with the midday chick absolutely HATED the afternoon host as well as the host of prime time and overnights. We talked so much crap about each other, but people were eating up "The Divided X" as we were 96X. I had been given the world's worst budget and told "you are going to have to hire green(not experienced and need a lot of work) talent and develop them and do it quickly. It literally was my Hail Mary of how the F can I make people not want to miss any of the shows??? Just to show you how much people loved fights. Our show remained first in the target demos but went from a 13 share to nearly a 20, as it was 19.6. But afternoon, who had previously had a very experienced host that was in it, but the new company wanted his salary "gone," went from a 3.5 and 9th in ratings to a 14.3 and 1st. Nights went from a 1.7 to a 12.8 and midday went from a 6.8 to a 17.1. We were kicking ass and saved our asses from a format change for sure! Howard Stern will end up not leaving beloved by the majority of his diehards. You hear so many of them complaining that they are absolutely baffled that he sold out to that extreme. That secret recording of him introducing that lady that is going to "consult" the radio show is so amusing, but sad if you are a long-term Stern fan. He was that rebel that did not care. The one that was going to give the middle finger to the corporate bastards. HE was like the real life Stone Cold Steve Austin! But, he wanted to be butt buddies with Jimmy Kimmel and the gang more than he cared about being that anti-corporate hero that everybody wished they could be. Howard Stern was doing what everyone in the country wanted to do and say to their bosses, but ultimately sold out because, according to reports, he wanted to be part of the "cool club" led by Jimmy Kimmel, which I guess is a perfect match for Stern being he was also once 1)very funny 2) sold out, and no longer funny. As far as Allison Stern. I thought their relationship was that relationship that you want to have yourself. Allison was that perfect wife that was going to be in his corner no matter what the circumstances. Having done radio, you will be what one of my best friends coined me as and that is "nomads." He was a club owner that loved radio. He loved programming and on-air, and the imaging and everything. He literally wanted to own a radio station, and would eventually do just that on down the road. When I told him that I was leaving for a larger market, he said he hated to get close to us radio folks because we are "nomads" that are never around too long. He was absulutely right, and it would stay with me all the way until today because no matter what the circumstances were, how high the ratings were, how happy you were with your house or condo(remember staring out at the Gulf of Mexico on the 19th Floor of Laketown Warf in Panama City Beach, a view that was breathtaking and that view was mine for 4 years) but every time I started out that windown, I knew that it would eventually be a new view and probably not aywhere close to that one. Radio jobs are usually a 5 year deal UNLESS you are smart and get into the country format. If you get into country format, and can tolerate that music, you never have to worry about format changes or being replaced even thought you are the host of the top ranked show. They will consider it the music that makes you number 1(and probably right because there are tons of no talent ass clown nerd circuses hosting country morning radio and are the top ranked show in their market because they have no competition in that format, and it is the dominant format. If you are just now getting in radio, and want to ride a free ticket to a nice salary filled with backtage passes to get a beautiful woman backstage with you, then do yourself a favor and SELL OUT! HAHAHAHA DO COUNTRY RADIO AND LISTEN TO EVERYTHING THE PROGRAMMER AND CONSLUTANT TELLS YOU TO DO! HAHAHA THAT WAS JUST TOO DAMN EASY FOR ME! I COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE FUN DOING SOME BULLS*** LIKE THAT!
