Thank you for this episode Howard! I know that you’re a a classically trained musician and you seem to know a lot about music theory but when I listen to you, in many ways it seems scientific. For me over blows seems impossible. On this duet, you brought in a congero. Joe’s background makes it quite interesting. I am interested in percussion instruments. I have bongos, a 12 inch tambourine and an old Yamaha digital keyboard. My technique on the tambourine is from a Baptist style church. I’m definitely not interested in any classical technique. Pandeiro is definitely interesting! I have learned to love the Hohner echo harmonica. To me it reminds me of the concertina sound. Although I can’t bend notes, the beautiful sounds compensates for what it lacks. When you say 3rd position, I automatically think of Gershin’s Summertime and the Dorian mode. Although I’ve owned Golden Melodys in the past, I don’t have one now. Just Hohners and Seydels. My original musical interest was guitar. When I play harmonica, I wanna play like a guitarist. Sometimes I really almost hate the sound of a harmonica and I don’t understand how people can say that I sound great!!Great episode today!!

So interesting how music is created and where it’s history was. In the conversation I noted that the musician had to play the sets that the gig was being paid for. I wonder if that routine was the catalyst for the inspirational response. Is it possible that music makes the musician?
