I'm continually amazed at the sheer number of great vocal tracks from the 80's!!! There has never been another era like this where so many hit songs were packed so tightly together in just a few years. I really hope the world gets to witness another era like this!

I grew up with this song and took it for granted as in the 80's we were used listening to quality music as opposed to these days...sooo damn incredible beautiful...it hurts..

I am so very glad I was in my late teens at this time, it was an amazing era with the best music ever. I am pleased to say now I am in my 50's I live in the past because it's never been bettered. Level 42, Human League, Depeche Mode, Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones and so many other epic bands. Love em forever.

Howard Jones is one of the quinnessential, albeit, least known artists of the 80's. His music is powerful, positive, and poetic, and his integrity as a musician radiates forth!

+Brad Hill i could agree with this song for many years, untill i found my right girl, and i still can agree with this song, because it goes to all the ones who didn't find their right partner yet, so this song will always be nessesary, and that can only be done by pleasant work of great sensitive talents like Howard Jones.

I remember playing this on an enormous portable tape recorder on the passenger seat of my car, because it (the car) was an early 70's Wolsely and only had a radio. I used to play it while driving over the hills between Manchester and Sheffield where I spent alot of time in the mid 80's. Great times.....

Man,the 80s were something else for those who like me were kids back then.We actually used to build a collection of tapes,later CDs,save up for them,exchange them with friends of just listen to them together.Now its takes a click to download,transfer and delete music.Yes,that has advantages too,but still i yearn for those days,when you actually had to meet people to see them and stay in touch.

@cattybound2011
@cattybound2011 9 жыл бұрын
***** I see what you mean. Sometimes the connotations of the terms change, though. Some define "classic" and "vintage" the same. Plus, with the idea that a "generation" lasts about 25-30 years, it seems we're now in a generation that thinks that 10 years ago was ancient history! :-)

He's got a point here. I never thought about the meaning of the lyrics until I really listened to what he was saying (now, as an adult). I was particularly struck by the line "And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be..."

Graduated in 83, lived through that mass unemployment and the Lawson boom and can say that life in Britain in the before the obsession with financial services and real estate took over and brought lasting damage on the country was indeed infinitely preferable. So much fantastic music like this and as for the rain...you can't be serious!

TheUtuber999, why do you say this is hate? Dylan didn’t say all Muslims, he said the angry ones that claim to be. Dylan might be a Muslim himself for all you know. I’m pretty sure he was trying to point out the hypocrisy of SOME. They say they love By their religion, but kill to please their God, while claiming their religion is loving, This happens in all religions. It’s not hate to point out things one sees as wrong. Don’t jump to conclusions. That’s part of hate as well.

What is Love? What a song!! This for me was one of the greatest songs of the 80s. Howard Jones incredible musician and Bill Bryant (wikipedia) extraordinary lyricist. Always felt Howards Jones was slightly underrated. Listen to Howard unplugged on a piano - amazing musician; a far cry from the manufactured music of today.

I've noticed that one often hears people say that the eighties was the best decade for music. You very seldom, if ever hear anyone say that of any other decade, and I have to agree with them! The eighties had brilliant tunes, acts, and there was still a type of 'ínnocent' fun to the music.

I find this to be the quintessential song of Howard Jones. It represents everything that I enjoy about his music.
