In a question-and-answer session at the Free Library of Philadelphia's Central Branch on Feb. 13, 2019, former Starbucks CEO and Chairman Howard Schultz said he was advised to avoid characterizing a Philadelphia Starbucks' manager's decision to call 911 on two black men as racial profiling. Schultz, a possible 2020 presidential candidate, also said the manager at the center of the controversy told him she likely wouldn't have called police if the men were white.
