I like how he laughs just like he did as Major Burns.

Mr. Linville's part of Frank Burns must have been very challenging to portray. He was nothing like Frank in real life according to what I've read. Gone too soon.

Yes. Most people don't realize how difficult it is being a "character actor". Mr. Linville was an excellent character actor. And, no, he was nothing like Frank Burns at all, in real life. That's how good he was.

That's for sure. Not only is he a class act and a fantastic actor, the guy had a degree in aeronautical engineering.

David Ogden Stiers was good, but different. Once you warmed up to him, he was pretty funny. And he gave Hawkeye and BJ a run for their money. Frank always lost.
Gosh, Larry couldn't get a word in edgewise. Can't stand Stern, but loved Larry's character. And he laughs the same!

I thought Larry Linville played Frank better then the original played by Robert Duvall. Not even close. Duvall could hold a candle to Larry.
@Locahaskatexu3 жыл бұрын
In fairness, the way I watched the movie, I always saw Frank Burns as a bit part... Even Hot Lips outlasted Burns in the movies... I don't want to slag off Duvall's portrayal of Burns here, but I get the feeling Duvall couldn't do much with the source material, the way Linville could on the TV shows... Personally, I was rather happy that season 5 was Linville's last, you could see he'd taken the character of Burns as far as it could go, and was able to twist a final knife in in his farewell episode (where he was an unseen character, but still)

I though MASH was good during the Frank Burns, Col. Blake and Trapper John years. It got sucky after that. Larry Linville was the greatest part of that show.

When Larry Left MASH it was a huge blow to the composition of the show. Without the dynamics of Marg. H and FB Vs. Hawk and Trap-the show lost 1/2 the show. I mean without those 4 going at it, it's just not nearly as funny.

Reading these comments is depressing. Sure, Stern is a real d-bag these days, no doubt about it. But this is back when the show, on radio and on television, was funny. It was really and truly funny. So much of the criticism is based on either the Howard of today or it's just plain whinging and whining from the offended class.
