My personal opinion, the dark overlord in creature form was one of the best looking creatures ever created. It still gives me goosebumps when Howard sees it for the first time and you can see the terror in his eyes. Way underrated scene in my opinion. Love Howard the duck. Chip Zien will always be the voice of Howard to me.

Thank you for getting Howard. Honestly, the movie's biggest flaw is that George Lucas is attached to it. If he'd used a fake name to produce it under, this movie would have been judged on its own merits, and not for failing to be the next Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I never caught wind of the sexual innuendo as a kid, but I can see how it could have bothered some people, though at that time I didn't see anything wrong with it, I just didn't get it. Special effects where really good too and I always cheered at the giant laser part at the end. Thanks, you brought up some good memories!

One of the best and most balanced reviews of the film I have ever seen. I am a die hard fan of Howard The Duck and I have been ever since I was a kid. There are much worse comic book films than Howard The Duck that don't nearly as much hate as this film does. Son Of The Mask, The Spirit, Captain America(70's TV Movies), Captain America(1990), Elektra, Wolverine: Origins, Batman and Robin, Steel, Barb Wire, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, Spider-Man 3, and Blade: Trinity are just a few of these comic book films that suck worse than Howard The Duck does. For a film about a talking duck? Howard The Duck was pretty epic and a lot of fun to watch. If the film wasn't hyped all the way into space before it came out, I think it would be appreciated more for what it is and not for what people thought it was going to be. Another Star Wars just because Lucas was producing it. As it stands Howard The Duck is not perfect by any means. It has a mixed and inconsistent tone, the acting at points is really bad, the jokes are at times also really bad, and the film has some pacing issues. But other than that? I think even with those flaws Howard The Duck is still an entertaining movie. It's no masterpiece but for what it is? A lot of fun can be had with this film if you put yourself in the right mindset for it. Whether or not you like it or love it you can definitely say that Howard The Duck is definitely a different breed.

I saw this in the theater. Won tickets by being the 9th caller on the radio. I never win things by being the right caller. Invited a friend, the ticket guy kinda smirked when he saw which show it was, and we were the only ones in the theater. It was at the mall, on a busy weekend. We had no idea what the hell we'd just seen as we left, laughed about that for years after, and when it came out on video, of course we had to show it to our friends. It was WAY more fun watching it with a group. I agree though that Lucas was right about this movie finding its audience in the future, because it was kinda ahead of its time. And I think it's interesting to note that if this movie had done better at the box office, we probably wouldn't have Pixar as we know it today, maybe not even Disney as we know it -- who now owns Howard.

The show can be a live-action/animated combo ala Cool World/Roger Rabbit/Son of Zorn with Howard animated and everyone flesh and blood. It can be faithful to the original comics and the new comics plus Emma Stone can be Beverly (Howard's human girlfriend), Sacha Baron Cohen can be Ringmaster and who can play She-Hulk? James Gunn can write some episodes and executeive produce the show since he is a fanboy of the comics. It can be a hilarious and satrical comedy-adventure show in the style of Son of Zorn meets Deadpool and Sunny in Philadelphia. And how about some shorts of Rocket and Howard together and did you love his cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy? i hear he might do another cameo in the sequel.

Howard does need a reboot (redux/RE-DUCKS). Get Alicia Witt or Bella Thorne to play Beverly and actually put a villain from his original book in the movie. My personal favorite villain is Le Beaver but it would make the most sense to put Dr. Bong in as the main antagonist and throw the Kidney Lady in there for another nice nod. Also it would be cool if they maybe put some Kiss music in the reboot's soundtrack as a reference to the fact that Kiss made their comic book debut in Howard the Duck #12. As you can tell I've thought about this a lot and really want to see a reboot happen in the MCU

Ha ha.... "Inter-species erotica fucko!"
@Johnlindsey2898 жыл бұрын
Hey! they were always a couple in the comics Beverly and Howard were an interspecies couple between an interdimensional duck Being and a human woman and what makes that no different than other Marvel inter-species or inter-being couples like Beast and Carly on X-Men TAS's Beauty and the Beast episode (human woman and mutant man who has blue fur all over his body and looks like a cat-ape hybrid as Carly confessed she liked men with fur), Lilandra and Xavier on X-Men the animated series/Marvel comics (mutant and alien beings), Hepzibah and Corsair (alien sapient humanoid skunk-cat furry lady and a human space pirate) on X-Men TAS/Marvel comics, Gamora and Starlord (human and alien) and Tigra and Hank Prym (human man and humanoid literal cat-woman with fur on her body and a tail)? they all prove in Marvel you don't have to be the same species of Being to fall in love and all all consenting adults. Nothing wrong with interspecies or cross-being love especially in Marvel you know but only if it involves a humanoid being, a sapient/sentient being, a magical creature being (ala mermaid or gargoyle or elf or vampire etc.), an alien being and a mutant being which it's ok to romance a different Being as they can consent and have similar body structure/parts like any human or Being does even same private parts that aren't barbed like a feral ordinary animal cat's dick or corkscrew long like an ordinary feral animal duck's dick is but regular dicks like any Being plus breasts/vaginas like any Being does. Beastality is only if it's a un-evolved/non-Being/non-humanoid Being/non-Mutant being/non-magical creature Being/non-sapient and sentient Being ordinary regular 4 legged animal creature like say if a guy screws a beagle then it's what borderline beastality is since it's a thing that can't consent to a Being nor has feelings/love feelings/body structure and parts/nor think or speak like any Being or human would.
@guytremblay16475 жыл бұрын
these exemple are not actually inter-species but inter-racial whitch is pretty much different while mutants are a different race of humans they are still humans but with inhanced capabilities . The beast's mutation was only in his appearence and maybe his intellect and strench a bit but mainly his appearence but all mutants are essentially humans at 80% and this was even more obvious in the third X men movie ', The Last Stand ' where the cure would get rid of the mutant genes and only leave the humain ones intact . It didn't kill the mutant it only took away his mutant gene so therefore if they weren't actually humans the only thing that would have been left would have been a little pile of meat or something of the kind .So by logic its inter-racial not inter-species and remember thatormal humans can reproduce with mutants and have kids who can be normal as much as mutants . Two good exemples of that are Quick Silver in Xmen Apocalyps who's actually Magneto,s son and a female human's son . then you have . Then you have Magneto little girl who was killed in the forest when he had decided to try it charles way and raise a family and did it with a normal human female . . Seriously not inter-species but inter -racial

No. But if you're willing to just go with it, it's a wild, crazy piece of 80s pop culture that, for me, has more hits than misses within it. The cast alone is enough to elevate this above "Worst. I loved this movie in '86 when I was 13. Now that I'm old and cranky, I'm not sure I could sit through it without a bunch of friends to give it the MST3K treatment.

Wow. I haven't seen this movie since the 80s. I forgot how desperately, and stupidly, awesome this movie was. All I remembered was the perverse sexuality and Lea Thompson being hot, as usual. I really need to rewatch this again.

RandomTXDude210 You do realize that the whole duck/human female love interest angle was in the original Howard the Duck comics right? I'm just saying.
@dennett3169 жыл бұрын
+caleb holland You're just saying....what? It was weird in the comic, it's weird in the movie. You're leaping into defence mode when it's not needed. Here, and in your reply to Fanden2 below. Chill dude.
@calebholland98469 жыл бұрын
+Paul Dennett I have the right to defend my point. Besides, the comics aren't meant to be taken seriously, they're sly social satire. Besides, it's a fake duck guy in a suit and, in the case of the comics, a 2d, hand drawn, sentient duck who goes through far weirder shit than having a female human girlfriend.If that's your arguement then people should complaign about Rodger Rabbit and Brian from Family Guy for doing the exact same thing, if you're really taking either of those that seriously as well. Plus, it's my own opinion so don't shut it down.
@Johnlindsey2898 жыл бұрын
+Paul Dennet what makes Howard and Beverly's romance in the comics no different than other Marvel inter-species or inter-being (rather better word) no different than Corsair and Hezpibah (human space pirate and alien skunk-cat furry sapient woman), Tigra and Hank (human man and humanoid literal cat-woman with fur and tail), Lilandra and Xavier (mutant and alien), Starlord and Gamora (alien and human) and Beast and Carly on X-Men the animated series's Beauty and the Beast episode (human woman and blue furred mutant man who resembles an ape-cat hybrid)? Howard and Bev with all those prove in Marvel you don't have to be the same species of Being to fall in love you know and consenting adults. Beastaliy is only if it's an un-evolved/non-Sapient Being/non-mutant being/non-alien being/non-humanoid Being ordinary regular feral animal creature like say if a guy screws a Beagle that is four legged ordinary feral then that is what beastality is. I mean it's a thing that can't consent to other Beings and cannot think/speak/have similar body structure and parts like a human or any Being does/have feelings like all Beings do. Remember the episode of X-Men called "Beauty and The Beast" (one of my favorite episodes)? Beast fell in love with a human woman who was blind then used a treatment to cure her of blindness as she wanted to see what her lover looked like, she was not startled by his cat-ape like beastly appearance and said "Your beautiful!" to him then he replied "So are you". The father was repulsed by the idea of a mutant who resembles a blue feline-ape and wanted to break their relationship as Beast felt heartbroken by an ignorant mutant hating father yet when Carly got kidnapped by the anti-mutant bigot group "Friends of Humanity" the father agreed with Beast to find his daughter and Beast's true love then at the end the father accepted their relationship and showed not all mutants even those who resemble animal-like beings aren't all bad and love isn't by appearances. I am a supporter of Inter-being/inter-species romance in Sci-fi/fantasy stories, comics, animation, games etc. and only by what i said if it involves a humanoid being, a sapient/sentient being, a magical creature being (ala mermaid or vampire or gargoyle or elf) or alien being or mutant being. There has been plenty of examples besides the Marvel couples as it worked for Eliza and Goliath on Gargoyles, Arwen and Aragon (human and elf), Nick and Judy (Zootopia and both are mammals), Sally and Sonic (Squirrel and Hedgehog mammal beings), Star Wars humans and aliens, Star Trek humans and aliens, Tankgirl and Booga in Tankgirl comics, Hellboy and Liz in the movies/comics (monster man and female sorceress), Eric and Ariel in Little Mermaid, Madison and Tom Hanks in Splash (mermaid and human), Charlene and Vinnie on Biker Mice from Mars (human and alien sapient mouse humanoid being and both are sapient mammal beings who are consenting adults and can make their own decisions since there is peace between humans and Martian mice folks on Earth and in Mars as it's Charlene's human right to love who she wants to love), Regular Show's Frank and Denise (Margaret's parents), Minerva Mink and a human lover in a fanfiction story series on DA, InuYasha and Kagome, Vastra and Jenny on Doctor Who (earth alien lizard woman and a earth human woman), Duckman who romanced with different mammal anthro beings/different bird people/even human ladies on the show (remember that classic 90's adult animated comedy show which pre-dated South Park and Family Guy? great writing and great humor too with satire with Jason Alexander), Batman and Cheetah on Justice League, Beauty and The Beast 80's show with Vincent and Catherine, Polly Pineblossom and that rich guy who was once a jerk on New Adventures of Mighty Mouse etc. I believe in comics especially furry ones/fanfiction/sci-fi fantasy stories even Star Wars/animation/games/Sci-fi fantasy films etc. that a person should have that right to love whoever they want to love as the artist or writer thinks so for consenting adults and i am a long time open minded person. As Prince Lir in Peter S Beagle's The Last Unicorn (Book and movie) once said when he found out the loveliest girl he ever laid eyes on and romanced known as Lady Amalthea is a humanized unicorn "Unicorn, mermaid, sorceress, vampire, gargoyle..no name you'd give her would surprise or frighten me, i love whom i love" which is one of my all time favorite quotes.

I am one of the crew who sees this film as a Guilty Pleasure... The comic was absurd so the movie was going to be as well! Its not one of the greatest but a good watch when you want to switch your brain off... The only problem is that I have grown up since I was a kid... And discovered the Internet, and NOSTALGIA CRITIC!!! Which also means I cannot watch any Howard the Duck Review or even the bloody Movie without singing "DUCK TITS WOOHOO!!!" Christ I even bloody end up singing it when I play Duck Tales Remastered!!! Just gets stuck in your bloody head!

yet another movie i enjoyed as a kid, little did i know about the duck tits until i watched it on dvd when i was 23 lol it was creative yet corny, and i'm a sucker for corny movies, to me the diner scene and the battle at the lab was the coolest parts of the movie, not that the flight scene wasnt highly entertaining, mind you. still, a great movie that i'll happily show my kids, with censoring of duck tits of course...

It's uneven, and weird, and zany but absolutely not 'bad'...a 'bad' movie would never have the pace, the lively charachters, the witty banter that HOWARD has...this movie deserves a major re-evaluation like the one that made 'BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA' a major cult...
@GoodBadFlicks10 жыл бұрын
RealKull I feel too many people are just parroting the "this movie sucks!" trope that has been going on for ages without bothering to give it a chance. It's a wacky movie that truly doesn't deserve its reputation.

You make a good case... but I still hate this movie. Technically, it's fine (e.g. photography, special effects). But it's so obnoxious and stupid I can't get any entertainment out of it. I've seen it twice, once when it first came out and again a few years ago. It's one of the few movies where my memory of it was exact. Regardless, good video. Always interesting to hear the trivia.

I was disappointed when this movie came out, too. Always liked Howard in the comics, but the movie was a total let down for me.
