Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors because no matter what movie he is doing, he never phones it in. He always goes all in, even if the film doesn't require it. He was hilarious in this because he was playing all pistons firing. I think if someone else did this remake it might have been "better" but not nearly as entertaining. Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this one. :)

Ohhhh! I always wondered what I was missing when he returned and it was the bike. Wow, I always thought there was like a new path or something I just wasn't seeing. Thanks! Cage is actually a very good actor, he just needs the right director. Some directors just let him run wild and that is when you get these off the wall performances. Check him out in Leaving Las Vegas or Lord of War and you'll see some excellent performance.

The Rock was good too. Good cast to play against. The movies where they just tell him "Ham it up." are usually movies that don't have much else going for them. (He's had to take a lot of shitty jobs because he incurred a huge tax bill he had to pay off.)

I would like to imagine the reason Cage goes bat shit insane near the end of the movie is because he was locked away in a underwater crypt for 24 hours. I mean, I would be a bit pissed and insane too if that happened to me....but then again it is probably just Nicolas Cage being...well himself.

I checked out the original on DVD, I think around the time this remake came out on DVD. I'll always remember the bonus features, the writer talking about his research that led him to the film's title and premise, then getting in touch with Christopher Lee to say he was working on film he wanted Lee to be involved in called "The Wicker Man." And Christopher Lee replying "Oh, so it's about pagan sacrifice, then?" And the writer replying "Goddamn you, Chris," as the writer had been banking on no one else making the connection between "wicker man" and "pagan sacrifice rituals." I also remember Christopher Lee talking about how, between finishing the film and its supposed release, the studio got a new head, and Lee went to meet him and happened to bring his wife. The new studio head did not stand up from his desk as Lee's wife entered the room, which Lee reflected told him everything he needed to know about the man (who proceeded to do everything in his power to make sure the original The Wicker Man never saw the light of day, because he hated it).

We were huge Nicholas Cage fans (mostly his infamous work) and saw Wickerman was coming on. We had no idea what we were in for. We didn't have booze or drugs but that wasn't needed for this movie. We were laughing hysterically all night. The scene where he punched the woman in a bear costume we could not believe was real. We rewound it back several times and still could not believe it. This movie is an absolute treasure.

I kind of agree, except the True Grit remake was actually as good as or better than the original, which was damn good itself. Oh! And Cape Fear! Updated with more violence, and was as good as the original. The acting was great in both of them. Mitchum vs. DeNiro? Man, in the original, when Mitchum starts talking about the lawyers teenage daughter...sleaziest thing I've ever seen. Felt dirty. Of course, DeNiro killed that scene too. But USUALLY, I agree. Just take the original as an artifact of its time and leave it alone!

Who really knew he was going up to the island, other than the dead pilot? The pilot he had to bribe last minute to take him there, who is also dead, and who’s plane could be hidden/destroyed. There’s no real way for an investigation to trace him to the island otherwise, at most they could trace him to the general area. But, since they are living as a single large commune, posted as private property. The investigating police would need a search warrant to visit the island. If that female cop is in on the conspiracy. She could easily throw off any investigation as well. Maybe into, ex-cop commits suicide, as a means to get the attention of his ex-fiancé.
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj6 жыл бұрын
pretty sure the police wouldnt need a warrant as mostly need them to enter homes. Like the police can just drive up your driveway and start walking around even searching but they cannot enter your living space. covering up murders is playing a extremely dangerous game, but i do think have a point. at least for me to let it slide in the plot

The twin elderly ladies towards the end are Jacqueline and Joyce Robbins. If you’ve seen the Netflix series, A series of unfortunate events, they play some of Olaf’s henchpeople. They said in an interview for a podcast that one of the members of film crew was going back and forth between this film and Xmen and he admired how calm and relaxed the set was compared to the superhero movie. Make sense. This is just a little behind the scenes that at least the actors had some fun.

In the movie's defense, I actually liked the scenes with Ellen Burstyn. I was surprised when the pilot turned up dead because I expected him to be part of the setup. I also don't think the movie completely jettisoned the idea of Christianity vs. paganism. It changed the conflict to paganism vs. Dr. Phil, which doesn't have the same resonance. How did Neil LaBute go from In the Company of Men to this and a remake of Death at a Funeral two or three years after the original?

i never got all the hate for this movie, it's a cult classic and has some really one of a kind scenes. It's no Citizen Kane but it's one of the best cult movies out there.

@@arthas640 Yeah, but the "serious drama, suspense, mystery" parts are sooo f'ing bad and ineffective. She straddles that line between "average woman" and "bouncer" where you're not entirely sure if you could beat her in a fist fight. 11:12 The only difference is I dont think my mom could get KO'ed so easily, she once drove into a ditch going 30mph over the speed limit and rolled her car totaling it, but didnt get a ticket when the cops showed up because she busted herself loose from the car and walked away from it, and the cops were so surprised she was even alive that they gave her a free pass

And, re: your quick summary conclusion comparing the original (Pagan v. Catholicism) and the remake (Males v. Females) is very simplistic, too. What if the ultimate differences between Paganism and Catholicism ultimately hang on the understanding of the older female centric systems, and the later male driven ones which followed. There are also arguments which point out that the difference between Catholic and Orthodox Christianity is also along the lines of this dichotomy.
