This cartoon changed me in high school... and continues to touch me deeply after college. The meaning, to me, has changed over the years... but the effect has grown stronger with every realization and change. I still cry.

This is such a good short. A wonderfully accurate way to convey how young love dies. When you are young, falling in love is new and exciting. It is not necessarily the person themselves you fall in love with as much as the thrill of knowing someone intimately for the first time. It is exciting when you get to know someone and feel their committed passionate love for you for the first time. And because it's such a new experience, it is amazing. But eventually, this novelty wears off. Over the years you realize that you did not choose this relationship because you're deeply in love with them as a human being, it was because it was an opportunity to have a new and exciting experience in forming relationships. You may appreciate the bond you've formed with them and think they're a nice person, but inside you know that they are not your choice as a life partner anymore. Severing such a strong attachment can be hard, but it's worth it. It's often better to explore people and relationships as you grow older instead of committing to a young love that you probably will grow out of

Simply beautiful. My $0.02: I've known lots of people who spent the first 1/2 of their lives running from great relationships with great people as soon as the honeymoon phase ended. Now in the second 1/2 of their lives, they mostly settle for people with whom there wasn't a honeymoon phase to begin with. Having "uncompromising standards" is often seen as a good thing. Being true to yourself is important, but lack of compromise is never positive. New love is easy, long haul love takes hard work.

This is a lovely honest look at how one can feel in a relationship. A lot of people have regrets when they leave a relationship. But only honestly inspection of one's feelings and willingness to really evaluate whether or not it is right to stay or leave. And not just stay because your afraid to be alone that motivation is selfish and wrong. Sometimes you have to love someone enough to let them go. Because its the best thing for both of you.

I wish there were more full length movies with stories like this. If a movie is about someone who is in love with someone who doesn't love back, there is always another character who is conveniently there to love them. Life isn't always like that. That's what's so beautiful about this story, and The Missing Piece.
@WobblesandBean2 ай бұрын
Agreed. There isn't always someone waiting in the wings to step in and pick up where the last one left off. Sometimes things just end, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's horrible, but we have no choice but to move forward.

@@WobblesandBean Thank you for your reply. One of my favorite things about KZbin is when people see comments of mine from over a decade ago and reply as if no time had passed at all. I agree with you, friend, it's serendipitous that you'd take me back to this particular video because I'm currently going through basically the exact scenario I described in my comment all those years ago. It is horrible, but I will try to keep moving forward just like you said, because there's nothing else I can do, but as long as I can keep moving, that's a good thing. Thanks @WobblesandBean

This video touches me deeply. I think we've all had to break someone's heart not from a falling out, or by being betrayed, but because we simply fell out of love. It's the worst kind of pain to inflict upon someone you once adored because there simply is no reason for it. It's an empty heartbreak.

No, actually not. It's simply just the right to be happy, whether if you're a man or a woman. If you're are not happy with your SO, and stay with him/her for what ever reasons, you're only prolonging the drama, and making things worse and difficult towards the end. Simply as that. So it's not call fastidious, it's only common courtesy, indistinctively for both sex.

@@scorpionaddiction2801 I've learned a lot about relationships, trying to embrace and deconstruct with consciousness and resilience. I still see her as an amazing human being and I don't think my love for her has changed a single bit. Yet, I am happy to know she's with someone I actually appreciate and admire. Good fella, and I forever wish her the very best. I guess it's important to understand relationships change. We're flooded with negative connotations (i.e., "breakup"), and I've chosen to see it as a kind of involuntary transition of love that also becomes an invitation to check one's ego, wants/needs, desires. I can go on for hours with a nostalgic conversation, but long story short: Yep, I'm ok; and truly hoping she is, too. Spent some of the best years of my life with her. ❤

@@PaebloLeon // It's weird. Been six years with my partner and I feel I've become toxic for him, and feel upset by things he's done over a year after the fact. I want to break things off with him, for both of our sakes. I hope he comes out okay and understands like you do. Whatever happens I feel like it's going to be for the best.
@PaebloLeon4 жыл бұрын
@@scorpionaddiction2801 I personally feel like that event brought a lot of things that I was able to channel into self growth and a focus I didn't know I needed. Openness is needed to embrace the fact that us humans want and need change; even if that involves growing apart from those we love, and it feels awkward because we've always been taught it's wrong. But it is achievable and, ultimately, I think ending a relationship does not always mean you don't want them in your life anymore, or that you hate them or dislike them. I guess there's phases in life in which we can truly grow together with another person, until we can't, for whatever reason. Maybe you/him want or need to focus on yourselves for a kind of self growth you're unable to begin or continue because of your current dynamics. I think at some point of the relationship we all come to those realizations but the fear of losing them, insecurities, etc. prevent us from even begining to address it. Also another important element is, we should always take care of our emotional reactions regarding this, and ask ourselves to what extent does the change the other person wants/needs is truly related to us; to what extent are we making all this about ourselves (why are you leaving me vs. humbly embracing the other's desire for a change in the relationship) . I don't know, it's 4:12 am and I'm just echoing what I've learned. :D

I long to see a romance where the moral is that honesty and self-respect can be more important than partners, or where a strong female character doesn't mean she carries a gun and not enough clothing. Hollywood could never be this articulate or considerate.
