Howard has evolved into a great interviewer. Early in his career he was mainly brash to say the least, but his style now is more person to person and he gets artists to give genuine answers. He asks questions that haven’t been asked a thousand times already.

Sure he's good now, he's interviewing top people but nothing is wrong with brash with some people .. that is what put Howard on the map. Wish he would do it more of harsh sometimes, but not with great talent just smarmy stars .. all the smarmy people where do they all come from?

He's collaborated with Paul McCartney and Burt Bacharach, and is married to jazz legend, Diana Kraal. His genius is recognized by some of the best in the business.

Loved this! Really liked what EC says toward the end about it maybe being better that it wasn’t filmed. This struck me a few years ago when I was blessed enough to have one of my musical heroes come in to a studio to say hi, and he ended up playing on one of my songs. I mean like one of the top 3 people who made me start playing/writing music! Surreal. We had a great hang and he told me stories about the sessions behind some of my favourite songs of theirs/his. I remember briefly thinking it would be cool if I had footage of it, but the more I thought about it I realised it wouldn’t have been as special in some ways. It was a special few hours I will always treasure, I think even more-so because it was just that. A moment between a few people 🙏🏻

Loved this. And Elvis has no reason to be intimidated. Him talking about the back and forth song made me think of his song with Lucinda Williams, which I absolutely love, and which makes me laugh no matter how many times I hear it

Kinda interesting that Stern sorta falls a bit into the "If there isn't a photo/video of it, then it didn't really happen (truly mean anything.) Not everything has to be recorded. Not all moments need to be monetized for clicks. Sometimes human interaction is sufficient, in and of itself, whether it gets a hundred likes, or not.

I wonder why their collaboration lasted for such a short time. Paul has songs co-written with Elvis Costello on only two McCartney albums: "Flowers in the Dirt" (1989) and "Off the Ground" (1993).
@NorsePJ3 жыл бұрын
It's not really short as he was doing the same thing with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Eric Stewart. They're artists and they're travelling different roads but sometimes they find themselves on a parallel path. True artists always move on to new discoveries.

To be honest I don't think they got on that well. It's notable that when stern asked him if they developed a lasting relationship he EC sort of changed the subject. I remember mccartney commenting on their colab with thinking that Elvis was trying to sing over him all the time (EC does have a LOUD voice) and as stated here nicking all the best lines. McCartney is hugely talanted no doubt. But Elvis is touched by real genius. Listen to beyond belief and almost blue. Or even Oliver's army. Mccartney could only dream of cumin up with songs of such subtlety and transgressivness
