Great and informational video! Thanks for acknowledging the connection between the Conga drum and Congo (Central Africa). Interesting how Afro-Cubans used molasses drums to continue in Cuba the drumming tradition that began in Africa.

The conga is without a doubt one of the most beautiful instruments to ever be created. Viva Cuba y viva Africa

While acknowledging that jazz was created by people who were “all the colors of the rainbow,” Blakey emphasized the music’s uniquely African-American roots. “We are the most advanced blacks, and jazz comes from us,” he told Taylor. “This is our contribution to the world, though they want to ignore it and are always trying to connect it to someone else. It couldn’t come from anyone but us. It couldn’t come from the Africans. We made this music, whatever they want to call it…They’ll call it the lowest thing they can, because it came out of the whorehouses. That’s where we were; we couldn't get any further because they ignored us. The only places where we could play our music were in the churches and in the whorehouses…Our music has nothing to do with Africa. African music is entirely different, and the Africans are much more advanced than we are rhythmically, though we’re more advanced harmonically.”-Art Blakey from Jazz Messenger Though not EXACTLY the same when it comes to Cuban music, the sentiment is the same. Cuba’s music, while it has it’s contributions from many sources, at its base it was created by Cuban blacks and could have only been created by Cuban blacks. Cuba was the perfect situation for Cuban music to come into the world and flourish. It simply CAN’T be from anywhere else. same goes for the conga.

@KeKe Gooden it cuban it was created by afro cubans in the mid 19th century but it is still considered african because it was inspired by Africans and made by afro Cubans

@KeKe Gooden yes thats what congri means (moors and christians) but something about it being migrated to cuba i dont really believe that because its been said that congri is a mestizo quisine influenced by spanish and africans and not just that cuban culture is influenced by spanish and african so what did you expect and nearly every source youl see they will say congri is cuban and what does this need to do with congas in the first place
@yaboidiego61774 жыл бұрын
@KeKe Gooden yes i know about the moorish invasion of spain but congri is still cuban and every source i read it is that congri was born in cuba and made popular there so are you sure it was migrated from spain? I mean cuban culture is influenced by spanish and african

Interesting. In my opinion, the conga drum is the sexiest percussion instrument ever. And the batá drums are the second sexiest drums.

Hey brother, This one go to your intuition how you want to educate the world of the very first congas, you said it has this pin like nails to hold it; better yet you said something where you include the Cuban were one of the first Island where the congas from, and after you added the Congo’s where really the very first one My respond to that is: The very first Congas didn’t have pin like nails; Instead of nails they were having hooks with piece hood made up with trees by 4 or 5 sticks in a shape of round not that long that goes around the Congas to hold the cow or the goat skin etc… About the Cuban’s they weren’t even close to the first tribe that know about congas better yet you come out with the Congo’s yes they are some of the tribes… But don’t forgot about Haitians that have an rhythms and the tribe are come Africa and they’re recognize for the first black Nation that escaped from the slavery well known has one of the tribe that keep the Congo’s roots… .
