This instructor and his assistant are very impressive. The assistant is clearly well trained and has either a natural or highly developed sense of balance and space. You can see how he intuitively senses what the instructor is trying to do and how he is trying to do it in micro time. The assistant adjusts himself to be able to help the instructor demonstrate the techniques to help the viewer see and understand. The instructor speaks clearly and precisely in a manner that exudes patience. The helps the student relax and concentrate and increases the chances for understanding while reducing the need for repetition to both speed up the learning process and make it more enjoyable for everyone. I don't know if it's natural, learned or both but it's certainly very good.

It's not used in MMA because many of the techniques just aren't allowed. Small joint manipulation, groin strikes, strikes to the throat etc etc aren't allowed. That's why I don't think MMA is valid for comparing martial arts. Nobody is going yo drop into a guard if going strikes, eye gouging etc are on the table.

David Lineman said _"Watch the first couple of UFCs"_ Most of these "martial artists" who do Kung Fu now a days, are pretty young and didn't see the UFC when it first started and they don't know it had no rules... It's a big waste of time trying to knock sense in to them or use logic. But I commend you nonetheless ... :)

Robert C. Christian not true, I watched those fights and by mutual agreement the fighters did not eye gouge, attack the groin or kick the knee joint. The fights were also in a ring, try a single leg on concrete. But sure, in that environment, and until the catch wrestlers got int0 it, the jiujitsu guys won. Keep this in mind as you pray to your bjj god, the Gracie's were essentially professionals fighting amateurs. Would you consider a pro boxer fighting an amateur fair or Tiger vs a club pro? Put it in perspective. But sure they won the early years....

Dude, the choice of white shirt is contrary to a good 3D description of a body in a position, both stationary or in movement. Try using light gray with 2 different shades of gray, one for each opponent and see the difference in any attempt of creating an accurate description

Why isn't this used in MMA more? Kung Fu is one of the older styles and all I can see in MMA is San Shou (even that's second fiddle to Muay Thai). And no, it doesn't 'suck' if you get Japanese martial arts like Judo and Karate so there must be another reason there's a lack of Kung Fu
@ZaddyZavid
@ZaddyZavid 10 жыл бұрын
U comparing apples and oranges. Mma is mma . Kung fu is kung fu. People dont train in kung fu so they can fight in mma. People train in mma so they can fight mma. People train kungfu for self defense and mastery not for sport/competition. If u wanna go to a good kung fu school u have to go to chinatown or china. If u wanna learn other stuff its like down the block. In my,hood in,nyc there are 3 tkds places 2 karate 1 mma and 1 kung fu place in 15 min,walking distance. But i gotta go manhatan or chinatown for wing chun. So i pick tkd.

Yeah, like they've said, there's a difference between martial arts for sports/competition and for self defense. If a guy grabs me in the street, I'll kick him in the balls and break his fists, or attack his neck, etc; I can't do that to a fellow mate in the class nor in the ring...
@rcchristian2
@rcchristian2 6 жыл бұрын
ronki23 _"so there must be another reason there's a lack of Kung Fu"_ You ask a very good question which most of the people in this comment section won't be asking and are not knowledgeable enough to answer. Techniques like this and many others were attempted or used in MMA at the very beginning when it had no rules. (around 1993) The fact of the matter is, it doesn't work and the Kung Fu practitioners never came back to fight and went underground. So did many other martial arts that didn't work. Many of the people in here today do not realize that there were little to no rules back then, or they have no idea what Vale Tudo is (anything goes fighting) of which they are not a part of either... Most of these people in here are pretty young and the UFC is older than them. Now with the onset of rules, because the UFC was almost banned (in the late 1990s), MMA has been made more in to a sport, and this kungu and wing chun fuckery is creeping back, but don't forget the lessons we learned in UFC 1 to 10. I suggest you go back and watch them if you can find them. None of the people in these comments have obviously watched them or know the history of MMA and the UFC. This is why they don't know the answer to your question. MMA term was coined because martial artists who have one discipline like Muay thai, had to cross train in other martial arts, in order to beat the Gracies. So people became mixed martial artists in order to do that. The Gracies dominated for a very long time at the beginning and almost built a mythical status. This has all been forgotten over time. The reason why you see almost every practitioner in the UFC today, have a base of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is because in order to beat it, people had to learn it. The wrestlers had to learn it, Sambo practitioners had to learn it, Muay Thai practitioners had to learn it, almost everyone had to learn it. There is a reason why the US military has adopted BJJ, Muay thai and wrestling in to their combatives system. There is also a reason it's taught to virtually all of the US police force. It's because it works. You will find none of this logic in here though. Go back and watch the first UFCs when groin strikes were allowed, when you could attack the throat, when you didn't use gloves, when there were no rounds and no time limits, when you had to fight 3 times in one night, when there were no refs (the corner had to throw in the towel), when you could do small joint manipulation, when you could headbutt and stomp someone on the ground and even when there was a gentlemans rule not to bite, but yet... people were getting bitten lol Kung Fu did not do well. Also I suggest you try 1 month of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It will dispel all these myths people are telling you in here.

Its hand fighting, just like in wrestling... You're focused on the finish, look at how it starts. You hand fight into a position of advantage and then lock and takedown simultaneously. Its works fine, trying to punch someone when they're countering your hand fight is going to put you in a bad position. You need to win the hand fight before you can safely enter for a strike, choke, or lock.
