The problem with Kyokushin kai is you don't move. Because of the fact you mainly punch solar, you stand in front of the opponent punching one other with a low guard. This explain most of the K.O plus the fact that you guys don't punch in the face so you don't protect your head. Look at all the competion videos. In all case K.O could be avoided if only the guy had its hands higher. You may be tough, a kick boxing or muy thai guy will knock you down. I think, even an english boxer can K.O you...

@@mofal_bluk9472 No Judo is derived from Jiu-jitsu. Judo was developed by a man who took the least lethal and less dangerous techniques of Jiu-jitsu and put them together as Judo in order to be able to more safely practice and master the techniques, as Jiu-jitsu was too deadly to practically practice without seriously hurting others in a fight situation. This allowed him to defeat his jujutsu opponents as they could practice much less due to the techniques they used

Shotokan student here, who has also experiences with Tae Kwon Do. Kyokushin is effective, because you make hard exercises to toughen up your body and gather battle experiences, which is important, too. However, the problem with that is, if you do hard or extreme exercises over and over again, you will scare off your own students and they will quit, because they can't take it anymore. We do hard exercises, but we do it relaxed and don't push too hard. I do my own exercises for example kicking, punching trees and brick walls and doing stretch exercises.

Question for karate practitioners. I did shotokan for 3 years over a decade ago. I have been doing Judo/jujitsu since then. I'm looking to get back into karate but looking for a style that is based more in shorter stance than shotokan. I tried ed parker style kenpo and liked it but was wondering if their is a style out there that is 50 percent competitive 50 percent self defense? I need something that practices repetition of striking vs long dance style kata. Something that will have competition in practice similar to Judo Randori...

Yes. But it's not actually recognized or very popular in america at that time. It's only popular in the Philippines, Indonesia, canada, Hong Kong and others. Except America and ireland. Although it is rare if you ever find and ask if there's an exist goju ryu dojo in America. Because almost around probably 30% or 50% of goju ryu schools population in America are rare. I don't know if I calculate right? But just think that it's there and very rare(some goju ryu schools are shut down and closed down due to the fractured of the karate community fall apart or maybe low ratings), jeff speakman is the only kenpo master who learns goju ryu. Shotokan and kyokushin are most recognized more popular styles than these other styles in America or all over the world.

If you are familiar with karate you would know that Goju-ruy tends to have more of the tough, heavy movements and katas and also breathing takes a big part (Naha-te techniques) and Shoto-kan is the one with less heavy movements (compared to goju-ruy) and more impulsive and fast katas (Shuri-te techniques). So, basically Mabuni (the founder of Shito-ruy) trained both with Itosu (founder of Shuri-te on which shoto-kan is based) and Higaonna (founder of naha-te on which goju-ruy is based) and then created Shito-ruy. So, in short, shito-ruy has both deep and fast stances, and both elements of Goju-ruy and Shotokan. Also it is notable to say that Shito-ruy has the most katas in all karates (94 according to wikipedia) which if course doesn't mean that there is no fighting, in fact most of the katas aren't neccesary to know. Hope i helped you, if there's anything else you want to know, feel free to ask ! :)

Then it wasn't a real Shotokan, just the sport version they called Shotokan. Sorry, but look at traditional teachers like Masatoshi Nakayama, his knuckles and other striking areas were obviously conditioned. It is a somewhat fashion today to call whatever sport competition bs Shotokan nowadays, simply for the reason that Shotokan is the most widespread style, but trust me that these are very far away from the real deal.
