RTK is also nice for recording 3D elevation maps to help make planting population prescriptions.

Ryan, do you plan on using the same RTK system for planting? I was kind of surprised to see you putting RTK in the combine. I don't generally have customers that are interested in that high of accuracy in the combine. If they want to have steering for corn we usually go with a headsight unit instead.

It's cool what you can do with a tablet anymore! When you go to do a "data transfer" though, who is receiving the data? Does it transfer via wifi to the memory in your iPad, or is it going to a web-based cloud accessible from any device you choose to log in under, including your iPad?

ya know you could set up a long range wireless access point to connect to the internet. just have to make sure you point them in to the fields. i work with them for some long haul networks just an idea.

How do you get the RTK correction information? Cell phone interface with a subscription? I ran an RTK system in the mid 1990's but had to setup a base station over a known survey point with a radio link between the base station and vehicle GPS.

Ryan, what's the return profit you would expect to gain from purchasing a device like this? Is it worth it? Do companies like this take advantage of farmers with the advancement of technology? Thanks. God bless.

Are you able to just connect to your home router when you are near the farm to transfer the data collected through the RTK instead of using your cell phone data?
@HowFarmsWork8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Machado I'm sure that could be set up, I used my own iPad to transfer the data to the Agfiniti app.
@GreenIronGarage8 жыл бұрын
Technically if you didn't want to use any cell data, or didn't have the AgFiniti app you could still just export the yield data using the memory stick. The RTK really has nothing to do with data transfer, only Differential GPS Correction. The new Ag Leader displays come with wifi capability so you can use an Ipad or other wifi enabled device to upload the data to AgFiniti. If you just want to get your maps to the agronomist at the end of the year its much simpler to use the memory stick. Where the AgFiniti app can be really nice is if you have two combines in one field they can communicate data in real time to build one yield map between the two combines.
@jrice10918 жыл бұрын
does any of this require a subscription? looks like Andrew's black eye healed up.
@GreenIronGarage8 жыл бұрын
You would need to have a cell data plan to use the Ipad or Cell phone to create the hotspot. The short run cost is usually much less than setting up a base station. Here in Minnesota the DOT has a cellular network that can be used for RTK correction. You just have to buy a cell plan from verizon, sprint or whoever and a cell modem for the display. The DOT network can be accessed for free.
