i think its pretty neat looking at then and now photos of farms. we have a pic from 65 with the brand new grain facility and the old stand alone corn crib in it .It was one of the ones that was 6ft by like 60 ft long. It also had the new machine shed in it. When my grandpa built it everyone said it was too big that he would never use all of the space. Its too small now. We have 3 machine sheds and still don't have enough space. i really like the ones were its shows people going about farm work because its telling a store.

Back in the ancient times when I was kid on the farm we had an old Bearcat Grinder and then we used Grain-O-Vator wagons. Dusty work grinding feed. The grinder/mixer "feed mill" obsoleted the lot! My uncle used to use a "Lorenz" grinder mixer it was one of the earliest with hydraulic motor driven augers. It was a heavy sucker too.

Nice you all help each other. I used to grind feed for beef cattle , feeder pigs , sows and sheep by myself. Back in the 70’s. And I enjoyed every minute of it.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s when my Dad and brother and I milked in South Central Ky we wore out two brand new New Holland Grinder Mixers we ground all the feed rations for our milk cows and our feed out lots for beef heifers and steers, this brings a lot of memories thanks Ryan 👍

I started to buy a pen of cattle last month. $6.00 farm corn and -15F temps. The feedlot Corn must be close to $7.00 because it is steamed rolled to add 10% water. Also the grain elevator and delivery must add 10% more. I locked in a +60 cent basis for 2021. A lot of the corn comes west from the Mid West by 110 car unit train. In Texas we were -10F to -15 for last week. Eastern New Mexico and the Panhandle's Southwest electric grid was lucky not to loose power even with light wind to make 25% green energy. I don't think we need experts like Bill Gates controlling the energy grid!

Hi Ryan. You talked about buying a feed mill. I got a used Gehl, 125, 100 bushel Roller Mill. I'm out of the cattle feeding business now, retired from it. So it's for Sale. I see you don't have a e-mail address listed below. I sent Travis a e-mail about my cattle trailer last week, as he thought about replacing yours some time. I got a nice one of those too. So you can see him about contacting me about my feed mill. In very good condition, i serviced it a lot after i got done using it, so if i decided to sell it, it would be ready to go, for some one to use with out a problem.

Its an angle thing with the tractor and the grinder looks like to me. Hard to park and reach, tight spot.
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 3 жыл бұрын
He's talked about it before in previous years... that auger up to the hammer mill is REALLY slow and won't lift the grain at too steep of an angle, it just keeps rolling it over and tumbling it. SO they use the jump auger and if you noticed in the vid after they got it started they even raised the jump auger wheels off the ground by winching up the feed auger into the mill so it runs more level, so it will actually move the corn faster into the hammer mill. If they put it down to the ground so it'd go under the bin auger outlet, the thing wouldn't move corn hardly AT ALL up into the hammer mill... that's why they bought the jump auger to begin with. Later! OL J R :)

Have you ever looked at planting something other than corn for feed. Such as milo/sorghum. It has a lot less input cost and can yield about the same protein/ac as corn. Just seems like a lot of money could be saved by selling all the corn and feeding the cheaper option.
