Guys the ZG5 comes with 512MB of RAM soldered to the board, the only upgrades you can do are adding ONE module of "DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300" RAM either 512MB or 1GB, for a total of 1GB or 1.5GB of RAM.

If you have the skills and the tools you can remove the on-board RAM and put a 2GB SODIMM in it. However, I do not recommend this if your skills and toolset are not up to it. You stand an extremely high chance of destroying your toy for that extra 512MB.

In the description you list RAM modules of up to 16GB, however it is my understanding that the Aspire One ZG5 can only take a max of 1GB RAM. I'm a bit confused, is there a way to allow it to take in more thank 1GB of RAM? Thank you.

First it showed 512MB only, then I disassembled again, took off the CMOS battery and put it back. Same for memory board (took it and put again). Now I have 1,5GB RAM. Thanks a lot! Anand Sihra, maybe if you disassemble it again, take the battery and memory board, then put them back, it would recognize your full memory.

What I want to do is replace tha sata HD in a zg5 netbook for the sata HD that was in another netbook. Do I have to diassemble the front of the computer like that do do what I want????😰😰😰

I only get it using a DDR2. Mine don't accept DDR3, it doesn't fit. You can see their difference in this picture: site.bixnet.com/images/products/DDR2DDR3SODIMM.jpg (DDR2's chanfer is near to the beggining of board, DDR3 is more to the middle).

The video literally shows you how to upgrade the ram. Also, I'm pretty sure I saw a standard laptop HDD in there.

@@tragedyx6x9x Yes, it has a SATA 2.5" drive. You can replace it with an SSD. Doing that really gives it a nice performance increase as the HDDs these had in them were slugs. Increasing the RAM to 1.5GB helps too.

Yes, they use standard SATA 2.5 inch drives and 1GB PC2 SODIMM I do not believe the ram can go past 1GB additional for a total of 1.5GB

@@dougrabbit8837 This is not my experience. The HDDs in these were like molasses in January. Increasing RAM will reduce swapping and the SSD will decrease seek, write and load times. The overall effect is definitely worth the effort. Also, if you know what you are doing you can remove the on-board memory and use a 2GB stick as well as overclock the CPU by 30%. With all these mods the ZG5 runs XP like a demon and does a very useable job with Windows 7 especially with OS optimizations. Performance increases with Linux are similar. Besides, it's a lot of fun to do and kind of makes you wonder why Acer did not do it back in the day.

I can not change zg5 512 MB to 2GB after I have replace it be 2GB then it was still black screen. But if I replace 512mb back then it okay. WHY????

RAM is incompatible. I had the same issue managed to change to 1GB though

The max memory accessible by zg5 is 2Gb. But it has 512mb soldered onto memorey board. If you put 2Gb in the slot the total is 2.5gb therefore out of limit. Your only limits are 1Gb, 1.5Gb with the onboard memory. Shame there is no 1.5 Gb single module vailable. If it fitted in the slotted then it will not have been DDR3, they are physically different.

@@erriezzanslounge1380 yes it can. but very slow. I solved the slow boot issue by installing ubuntu. It's fast now and workable.
