Word of advice to anyone looking to follow this guide. When you remove the power supply, do not try to remove the cord from the motherboard. Instead, remove it from the power supply itself. I stupidly followed the instructions in this video and ended up ripping the whole thing out of the motherboard just to immediately realize that it would have been much easier to remove from the power supply end. Hope this helps someone so they are not left without a ps4 like I was.

Hi! So did you not replace the thermal paste on the APU? My 1 year old PS4 Pro sounds like a jet engine while playing games. I don't think it's too early to replace the paste. Did the noise dial down for you by just cleaning the heat sink, or did you replace the paste as well? Thanks!

@@dingo702 I was worried as well since I never done this not even once, but just be calm and follow everything step by step. I suggest you separate the screws accordingly to what it belongs to and you will do fine, I recommend using grizzly kryonaut thermal paste. To clean I used toothpicks, ear cotton swap, brush, paper towel, rubbing alcochol ( just to clean the old thermal paste off) and dust off air sprayer. Oh after you’re done don’t plug it and use it right away. I did that and it turned on and off in less than a second. Plug it leave it off and leave it their for like over an hour. @@dingo702 Go for it Michael really : There is no real tricks here. Don't be afraid to pull up the plastics as they can be hard to remove sometimes but eventually it will come and not break. then follow instructions. Sort the screw (hell even if you miss one or two of the huge amount ther is on the metal plate its not a big deal) and use MX4 thermal paste (my favorite) et then you're good really. Just don't forget to prep the cable of the alimentation to be ready to be pluggged on the other side like I did (or you're good to repeat all the steps again ^^) and it will be a child's game. it's not techical. the idea is to remove dust, the old paste (and even if you let some it's okay, i didn't use alcool or toothpick perosnnly, just rubbed it with paper tissue like in the video and it was good). You'll have a silent and more performant PS4 in an hour ! ^^

Followed this video and it is amazing! Helped me replace the paste on my Ps4 Pro. DEFINITELY worth it guys, every game made my PS4 ramp up the fans to max all the time since DAY ONE! Don't let people tell you that it's the "fan being dusty" or "that's how it's supposed to sound". The thermal paste in my PS4 Pro was so bad it was laughable! I took a photo but can't share it here :/ 2 tips that I picked up on the way from other videos that will be very useful as you could easily break your PS4... 1. When removing the Power supply cable @3:14 ...do NOT try and just pull it out! It is connected to the motherboard and can easily snap off! Use a good pliers and grab the part you want to remove and slowly wiggle and lightly pull...NOT THE WHOLE PART....otherwise you will snap it off and it could happen so easily! 2. Be sure to LIFT THE TAB on the ribbon cable @3:36, it's the only one that has a tab holding it in place. I've seen a lot of comments saying their disk drive doesn't work anymore....this is why...if you don't lift the tab you damage the ribbon cable. Excellent video and my PS4 is about 85% quieter now! I was hesitant and didn't want to do it but I'm glad I did! If you're reading this and you're not sure if you should do it or not....trust me it's easy, just do it slowly and carefully, the results are worth it!

Thank you for the amazing video. My pro is now almost silent. I have the older rmodel but its almost exactly the same. A few less screws to pull on the inside and a slightly different cpu shroud. This was so thorough and easy to follow. I watched some other video that only includes taking off the top and bottom covers and trying to clean the fan without even removing it. No chance at reaching the radiator that way either which was totally clogged on my unit and no reapplying of thermal compound which is the REAL reason they all sound like jets. That video had almost 3 million views and isn't anywhere NEAR as good as this one so I added a link to this video in the comments. Thanks again for the help! Now I don't cringe every time I turn my system on. Mine was ramping up loudly even just in the dashboard. P.S. I also took your advice and made some coffee before putting it back together. There's been an infernal heatwave around where I live and my Pro has been overheating all the time for the last couple of weeks. I thought I'd help by cleaning the inside and replacing the thermal paste on cpu and the pads on other chips. Your video was immensely helpful, particularly the detail in which you explained which screws are used where, there are so many it's easy to get confused. That and the part of the reverse assembly where enough to brighten my day, both ideas should be used more often, with electronics usually the problem is putting everything back together after you've done the job. Thanks, really appreciated.

Changing the termal paste makes such a big difference. Been playing COD 2019 and on the multiplayer lobby where the game is looking for a server, the fan always goes to max RPM. Replaced the thermal paste with Noctua NH-H1 and on the same screen the fan does not even spin. Extermely quiet. Not very hard to do overall. Torq TH8 is about $3. Noctua $7. Just be careful and do things slowly in a well lit room. When applying the Noctua you dont need to spread it manually, just put a tiny dot in the middle. Search KZbin for videos on how to apply thermal paste (I got mine from LTT).

This is an updated impression. There seem to be a problem with the PS4 Pro thermal sensor and the CPU logic that tells it to kick the fan up. So I did the thermal paste change and immediately noticed some 90% reduction of fan noise. Then after one month it came back to noisy. I opened the Pro again to check and everything was fine inside. Thermal paste still good, no dust clogging in the airways. I redid the Thermal paste. Same, quiet at first then after 1-2 weeks it got loud back again.

Very grateful for this video, i have just purchased a PS4 Pro all working…except it wasn’t. Overheating issues plagued it that i thought i bought a jetty engine. Anyway, followed your video and instructions and ended up removing one inch of dirt and debris from the fans of the heat sink, reapplying the thermal paste and generally giving it a very good clean with a tooth brush. All working within expectation and certainly a lot quieter.

My 5 Year old PS4 Pro was sounding like a jet engine so the time had come to either upgrade or attempt a fix to try and get another year or so from the Pro. Honestly I was not too hopeful that this would work thinking the damage was already done but with a £20 investment in a tool kit/anti static brush/99% iso propyl alcohol and 1g of Kryonaut Grizzly Paste I got to work. Went slowly step by step on taking it apart and whilst the Radiator was pretty clear of dust the original Thermal paste was now non existent. After re-assembling I powered it up and there was absolute silence. Have spent the past hour stress testing various games that have been virtually unplayable with the noise (RE4 remake/Horizon/GOW) and the Pro is now purring like a cat. Thanks very much for this guide which was great and saved me a lot of money on an unwanted upgrade or expensive service for the Pro. Cheers 👍🏻

Thanks for this video. My PS4 Pro has been incredibly loud for a year. I barely get to play it but it can't be good for the components running so hot. I purchased thermal grizzly pads and thermal paste and slowly followed your guidance and the PS4 is silent again. Seems as good as new. There was lots of dust buildup on the CPU heat sink radiator that must have been suffocating the CPU. A paint brush and air can duster did the trick. Great video 👍

Great tutorial. Very detailed and makes teardown a lot easier. My fan was running on max speed constantly and when I looked at the fan and heatsink, there wasn't much dust on there so I was kind of doubtful that was the issue. Thank you soooo much for this tutorial! Liked and subscribed. My PS4 Pro is now as quiet as a church mouse! The radiator was also clogged with dust, the fan was caked with it, and the old thermal paste was dried up and cracked. This brought my system back to its youth! I did buy a precision screw driver kit for this project, so that plus the thermal paste only cost me $36. I will say, however, that the thermal paste I purchased said to only use a dot and to NOT spread it around the CPU. I confirmed with a friend of mine, who works with computers for a living, and he suggested just using a PEA SIZED dot of paste, because if you spread it around like you're frosting a cake, you risk the CPU overheating.
