Long ago, barbaric, half-giant warriors known as vrykul founded a vast civilization among the towering cliffs of the Howling Fjord. The vrykul prospered for many years, then vanished suddenly.
Now, awakened by some unknown force, the savage warriors have re-emerged to wage a brutal campaign of destruction from their stygian fortress of Utgarde Keep.

mr$lappy lucky guy^^ in vanilla you had to die your way through stranglethorn, to get to booty bay, where one of the very few alliance and horde- auction houses were. transfering money or items to a horde character when you were alliance, or the other way around were pretty complicated ^^ i really hope that blizzard one day sets up a server for classic WoW or maybe even for every expansion. They set so many standards for mmorpg s in the past, it would make sense. but until then i keep playing the game as it is^^

It was around 8PM on a cold night - was raining like mad outside, and my dad drove me to a game store because wotlk had launched that day. We finally made it, just as they were about to close, only to hear from the guy working there that they had no more copies left. My dad, knowing better than that, explained that we basically drove for an hour through a storm just to get the expansion and that going back home empty-handed would devastate me (both of us actually, since my dad also played at the time). The guy paused briefly, looked at me and handed me a copy he had stashed behind the register - the one he had saved for himself. Shout out to you, retail guy in 2008, you made the howling fjord boat intro possible for me on that same night.

I also got lost in it. Nowadays though, I get lost in fanfiction instead. _Self Inserts_ to be exact. It's not that my life is bad, I just find it boring; go to work, come home, do nothing during weekends... It's just a boring cycle that makes me dream of more interesting lives, even if many of them are dangerous (I even signed up for that "be the first person on Mars, on a one-way trip" thing, though I didn't get the spot naturally)

My early teenage years was spent playing wotlk, from the ages of 13-16. Something about grizzly hills, dalaran and howling fjord makes me calm, in piece, partly due to the reason that when something happend irl i would jump onto wow and zone out from the real world. Escaping from the disfunctional family, which my mother and father always argued. Alot of people might disagree but wow and wotlk was my sanctuary and i was the controller of it. I havent gone back to wow since 2013. But there is still that little boy inside me who listens to the music of the zones from wotlk from time to time.

Man, I started playing in TBC just a few months before Wrath was going to come out. My brother got me into the game when I was around maybe 12-13 years old. I would sit next to him at the computer and watch him play for hours until he finally let me make a character on his account. Then when wrath came out, I was at school sitting in the middle of class when I heard the intercom turn on and called my name asking me to come to the office. Naturally the teacher let me go and can you guess who was waiting for me at the front desk? My brother. He told them we had a family emergency and had to take me out of school for the day. So we leave and I ask him "What happened?" he responded "Wrath came out today and we're going to go pick it up and we are going to play all day long". That was a long time ago, but the love I have for my brother is timeless.

“Nostalgia is not indulgence. Nostalgia tells us we are in the presence of imminent revelation, about to break through the present structures held together by the way we have remembered: something we thought we understood but that we are now about to fully understand, something already lived but not fully lived, issuing not from our future but from something already experienced; something that was important, but something to which we did not grant importance enough, something now wanting to be lived again, at the depth to which it first invited us but which we originally refused. Nostalgia is not an immersion in the past, nostalgia is the first annunciation that the past as we know it is coming to an end.” - David Whyte

27:31 and 38:48 for a blast of nostalgia like none other. Growing up, I used to spend countless hours just watching my older brother play through vanilla and TBC, eventually we started playing together and I started out late in TBC. With the expansion of WOTLK, we were dumbstruck at the shear size of the new area as this meant we could explore places where we haven't had before(Being a innocent kid, I used to spend hours trying to jump my way up hills and mountain sides that were clearly not meant to be traversed in hopes of finding "hidden" or "special" areas which I would subsequently claim as my "secret base", finishing it off by building a campfire in the center and I thoroughly enjoyed bringing my brother to this secret lair, showing it off to him). I personally loved the new set of soundtracks and could never understand others playing with music set to 0 (I think Northrend had better music than the Outlands/Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms. Being a noob constantly guided by my older brother, we started Northrend from Borean Tundra together and rarely travelled to the far east of the continent. (You know WoW was a major part of your life when irl you mix up the name Portuguese man O' War with Borean man O' war) After my brother quit due to real life pursuits, I was left alone and ventured into clearing achievements as a past time. I spent countless hours alone, flying all over Northrend and obviously Grizzly Hills and Howling Fjord. From above, I fell in love with these two places and even ran through the low level quest lines to truly appreciate the area. Fishing and cooking with my brother to complete achievements, was one of my favourite things to do in Wow. Not that it matters to others, but I remember my brother following me around while I fished to try and get the Sea Turtle mount. Simply sitting in front of a computer "fake fishing" somehow brought me so much joy. Constantly traveling between Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord for The Kalu'ak rep so we could purchase the epic fishing rod only to show off by fishing at the small pond in Dalaran(which not to mention also had the coin challenge!). The starting of 27:31 and 38:48 would never fail to stop me in my tracks, both character avatar and in real life, almost always losing my fish in the process. How I miss such care free times. It does however bring unrivaled solace to see that so many others too have had such a positive childhood thanks to a video game. Oh how I miss the good old days.

Sound is one of the strongest nostalgic triggers for me. When I listen to music like this, along with all it's nuance I feel an overwhelming mix of emotions. I often feel sad that those days are gone and likely never to return again. But I am happy I got the opportunity to participate in the first place. Some of my best gaming memories. And to paraphrase Blade Runner: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the coast of Northrend. I watched the stars glitter in the dark near the Ahn'Qiraj Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I understand, I know that feeling. But I must say, you can still do all those things in the game, and much much more. I mean, I'm not gonna preach about re-subbing, one of the main reasons I decided to make my videos in the first place was to give people (and myself) the ability to enjoy the amazing music and sounds of the game *outside* the game itself. And to recreate, at least somewhat, that feeling of home away from home. Just pointing out that the game is still pretty damn awesome.

I got off of work that night at 11pm. Sweaty and still covered in metal shavings and oil I stood in line at the gamestop by my house reeking to high heaven. Everyone out there was excited and chatting like school kids. You could see the excitement in everyone's face when they left the store holding their copy. I got my copy and went home for a shower while it installed. Jumped in, did some lead up quests, and then embarked for the Howling Fjord. I spent the next several days just enjoying the sights, sounds, and questline, teaming up with some friends to conquer the dungeon. These small experiences are things I miss nowadays. This expansion got better and better each zone you progressed until you finally found yourself at the steps of Icecrown Citadel, ready to face down Arthas and his scourge. I don't think I've enjoyed an expansion since this one. I come back hoping for the same wonder and excitement, but I leave disappointed every time.

This is for all of the lost souls, pure hearted conrads, and aching hearts that miss this version of the game and the times in our lives we used to live in. I wish you all the best and wanted to thank you all for making wrath of the lich king one of my most fond memories in my life. In a couple of months we will be going back, exploring again, reliving memories, achieving things we never had the chance to, and absolutely immersing ourselves in this beautiful world we call Northrend, this is more than a game... it's where our hearts have lived, it's where home is. Lets go home this year. See you guys on the boat to Northrend my friends.

Wrath of the Lich King truely was the best expansion. Im glad and proud that I was able to experience it all first hand. It will always be my favorite area in the game. Each zone was filled with rich stories, lore and in depth details. Although WoW was never known for its graphics, the zones of Northrend were really beautiful during its time, and the music was what really pushed them over the edge. If only I could re-live it...

The real thing that sets it apart is that, for the most part, they stuck the landing. Leveling content in WoW has kept getting better and better, but endgame content for other expansions has been mediocre at best, but like, Ulduar and Icecrown? Still seriously some of the best raids the game has ever had.

I’m currently playing Wrath Classic at the moment, and although I must admit it’s the most fun I’ve ever had playing the classic iteration of the game. It’s still not the same. There was something about the community back then, people never wanted to log out. I remember my guildees back then, we’d sit at the fountain in dalaran on Teamspeak, talking about how excited we were for each new patch, or we’d explore the world together. There was a true innocence and lack of knowledge which made this expansion an adventure i will never experience again. To all you folks from Stormreaver EU, if you see this. Magners, the Undead Warrior wishes you well. Here’s to the good old days

I miss the feeling I got when I first entered this zone in 2008. I know I'll never feel that way again, and that is enough to bring a tear to my eye. I was young, and the world was magic. I felt free and in awe of this amazing digital world I loved, but didn't totally understand. There are a few moments in my time playing WoW I will never forget. The first time I walked into Stormwind, getting my first flying mount in Shadowmoon Valley, exploring Dalaran, and most of all, riding in on the boat to Northrend in total awe of the beauty of this continent. It felt so huge and untamed and... just plane beautiful. The art, music, writing, quest design, everything about this expansion was top-notch.

I'll never forget heading out to Gamestop and waiting in line for the Midnight Release of WotLK with my closest friends; the heavy fog that rolled in outta nowhere that night...the anticipation, with our toons logged out in front of where the zeppelin was gonna spawn right after install. We'd all just finished high school and didn't yet have to work, so we had all the time in the world to play. After we all grabbed our copies, we headed home, and I'll never forget staying up super late to bang-out at least one level before falling asleep, only to wake up and pour my heart into this expansion. Quickly rising in the ranks to the 'top Rogue' on my server (Daggerspine at the time) with my closest friends and guildies was unforgettable. This game gave me a chance to be with the most important people in my life at the time, when my childhood had me all over the place, and otherwise unable to do so. Forever grateful for that.

WoW was very special time, the world hadn't seen a mmorpg on this scale before and it was breaking new ground for everyone. I lost several years of my life to it but I absolutely loved every minute of it. Sadly it probably won't happen again, things like that only come around once. Now we are all saturated with online gaming. VR rekindled that magic but WoW was just a very unique point in gaming history for millions of people around the world. Can't help but feel sad looking back because it's all memories and nothing will bring that innocence back.

Still get that wow nostalgia from time to time. Just looking at the familiar landscape brings back fond memories....think I will leave this on for a while. Crazy to think I learned about WoW from a magazine subscription I bought form a kid going door to door to finance his senior trip. Never read the magazine, but the third month there was a disc inserted with the "intro" version of WoW. Out of curiosity I downloaded...and the rest was history. Spent about the next five years immersed in WoW before giving it up. Weird how things work out, if I dont buy that subscription I probably never play it.

the last few pieces of art always reminded me of this loud, vibrant land - of people telling folk tales, music playing people gathering around - but slowly that biting cold gets louder, and louder and silences those tales. In it's last effort, you can still hear it play, but the blistering cold wars frostbite, and you know it's inveitable, you know the cold winds will win - but you still hang onto hope as those instruments play their last wail goodbye.

I can't believe it's nearly 15 years since wrath released. Time is scary. And nearly 20 years since wow released. I started in 2005 a couple weeks after the European release. I was on holiday with my family. I remember playing the original warcraft and warcraft 2 tides of darkness. So many memories good and bad. And I think of all the people I've lost along the way. The raids they won't ever get to see or complete. One grows old and when I look back I feel old. But I think of the future. "Yesterday is history tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift". That's why we call it present.

These WOTLK songs get to me, because not only are they some of the best songs from a video game ever, with how much emotion they convey. They also represent a time when I didn't know the end was near for my time with WoW. All of the time, late nights with friends, endless hours spent from Vanilla, through BC, and into WOTLK. Who knew that being on that boat ride into Grizzly Hills, and seeing those visuals for the first time in awe, would mark the beginning of the end of WoW's golden era. Towards the end of WOTLK and beginning of Cata is when most of those friends I made, and guilds I played in started to fade away, and people started to drop off. The music is dramatic in a nice relaxing way, but also a sad nostalgic way. WoTLK was the last hard copy video game that I ever went to a late night release at Gamestop for, stood in line for a while with RL friends. Those days are long gone, but I cherish the memories.

The sound of flute from 27:30 incarnate my feelings, pure beauty. Remember when i see the Stormwind docks for the first time, it had amazing view! Couldnt wait to board the ship! maybe I changed.. but after wotlk everything was a bit strange, especially when the new “animations” came. The weather, colors of the sky and terrain, arent the same. I mean it radiates me something else than before. At least Classic is comin! It was December, on a cold, snowy but a bit sunny Saturday morning with my 15 yo brother travelled to the nearest city to buy the lich king expansion. We arrive home put the cds in and watched the cover while it was installing.. after we logged in, the immersion had begun... I wish blizzard take more time before they give us expansions! Until MoP there was an excited, captivate, shiny story worth playing for. In the old times the essence was on travelling the way, rather than destination. Thanks Everness & Blizzard for unbelievable and unforgettable memories!
