Exploring these areas for the very first time is simply a feeling that can't be recreated.
@WowDailyDose
@WowDailyDose 5 жыл бұрын
why can't new games capture that? is it because the idea of exploration and adventure was so new back then? that we all felt amazing doing it?
@QuestionableObject
@QuestionableObject 4 жыл бұрын
@@WowDailyDose It's hard to capture lightning in a bottle, even if it did get captured again, you've already experienced it once somewhere else so it still won't be as strong a feeling. A lot of games these days have more focus on bombast and awe though, rather than simple, subdued splendor. Azuremyst is very somber and calm, a lot of old WoW zones are. There'll be other games that try to capture that feeling eventually, if people long for it, someone'll make it eventually, it's just the way the wind's blowing for now.

When I was a teen, I met a guy in a dungeon we ran together, we were talking on vent and we were hanging out in stormwind when he randomly decided he wanted to go somewhere peaceful with no one around. Next thing you know, he took me to the spot exactly at 27:00-30:00 and picture this, I will never forget just sitting there at max level for hours on top of those structures enjoying the ambiance and talking about life. I never connected with a stranger over the internet as well as I did with that fella. Update: This happened when I was a teen, maybe during Catacylsm expansion. I am 29 now and I no longer play WoW. I quit about three years ago. I don't know what became of the guy I met nor do I remember his name as it was about 15 years ago but I wish him well. I just wanted to share on of the MANY memories I created when I played wow. (and yes, I have made more meaningful connections in real life now LOL) Thank you all for sharing your experience and I'm glad a lot of you can share my nostalgia.

Azuremyst Isle represents the best ambience WoW has to offer. Enough of a rhythm to lend it some momentum and make it unique, with a feeling that captures the beauty of Azuremyst and the melancholy of the Draenei's diaspora, but portrayed diffusely enough so that it doesn't constantly seize your attention, simply lending context and tonality to the environment. Despite the amazing thematic and orchestral music that defines modern WoW, I do miss the more passive and atmospheric ambience that defined Vanilla, BC, and (to an extent) WotLK. Thanks for putting this together; it's exceptionally well done.

This might be the most perfectly phrased description of older WoW music vs. new I've ever read, and like Daniel said, it's exactly how I feel but I'm not sophisticated enough with my words to have said it any better. Its the reason I can play the older soundtracks in my car, or while I work. It doesn't constantly grab my attention. I haven't been able to do that with anything post WotLK.

This made me cry. My teen years nostalgia, after all the shit in school and on the streets I come home to my Azaroth to have fun with my friends and live another life. Many guild dramas , many friendships, there was even one of the first loves that I had, with a girl that I meet in WoW I still remember the spot on Azuremyst when we went to chill :) TBC is when I started. I have a horde insignia tattoo on my arm to forever remember those days. Sorry for this little emotional rant comment, I had to write...

All this game ever did was bring people together. Enemies, friends, trolls, even sometimes lovers... in a way that it’s so hard to do in real life anymore. This game shows a different side of our humanity that we otherwise seem to have lost touch with. That reality, like this music, is so sad yet so beautiful... like daydreaming up into the night sky, into endless possibilities. To all reading this, I wish you well on your journey. :)

GamingTV if the draenei were to return to the strenght that they used to have and regain their population, then I could definitely see them being their own faction. But since they crash landed azeroth while weakened and with a very small population, they desperately needed the alliance’s help to protect them. I hope the draenei have their own expansion one day, Wod did not do them justice at all.

When I was a kid I remember making my first draenei and not really thinking much of Azuremyst, it was simply the starting area that I needed to get through (I didn't even play with the sound on), but a few years later I went back to it and realised that it's essentially my idea of heaven. Animals slowly roaming around a quiet, secluded forest island, with lilac low light and a peaceful ambience track that makes you feel slightly drowsy, ancient elven ruins scattered around, bushes and beds of flowers everywhere, with tall dark pines that give you shelter, surrounded by silt shores stroked by gentle ripples, all far removed from the wars going on across the sea. In my mind it's the ultimate sanctuary, so now I go there if I have a bad day at work or if I'm really tired, or really whenever I can hehe

@DJ_Trolly It's not just the game thought... The entire internet culture was different. People interact in a different way now than we did back then, at least that's how I feel. Back then meta wasn't a big deal for most people either, making it less important to rush towards the end goal and more about exploring the world with others. Just look at wow classic, almost everyone hanging about in the capital cities all have the best gear and the bst mounts in the game cause the mentality and knowledge is so much more geared towards effectiveness now than back then. Thats how I perceive it anyways... the old times will never come back, Im just so glad to have experienced a very very special time in gaming

My youth was great... One day I will tell my children of the World of Warcraft. How it expanded my mind. I played Blizzard games since the 90's. Starting with the Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo franchises. When WoW came out... lets just say: those were the pinnacle times of MMORPG as a genre. Wow reigned supreme during the period 2005-2010. We had a great run back then, revisiting the worlds that we left back in Warcraft 3 and stomping Arthas and Illidan. But nothing in any of those experiences stuck more with me than a tiny isle, a serene place of mystique and wonder. A tranquil, peaceful starting zone where I first picked up my love for Azuraya, My Draenei Shaman. Those memories are stuck in the 2007 paradigm...

I think the greatest element of the Azuremyst Isle was how believable it was. The only fanciful elements of the island were the people on the islands and the crashed spaceship of the Draenei. I really felt that I could wash ashore an island like Azuremyst, and not be shocked but the local plant life and geography. Also I loved the color scheme of the island: cool colors punctuated by soft lavender tones. But I think what stood out the most was the ambient music of the environment. It didn't feel as bombastic or as intense as the rest of the World of Warcraft soundtrack sounded, and had an air of mystery to it. It really fit the spiritual nature of the Draenei. I hope they re-release BC as they have done with classic so I can play a Draenei Shaman. To explore Outland again as one of my favorite races, and to finish all those instances/raids I didn't complete with my first playthrough, would be a joy for sure.

Amazing zone. Still one of my favorites to this day and the music really makes it. It's somber and a hint of desperation. It's especially emotional when you find the Night Elf who lost his family in the nearby home that's destroyed and overrun. He is just sitting on the edge of the dock contemplating the point of life after losing his family. I listen to this to fall asleep sometimes.

This was my first ever experience playing WoW, it was during cata so I was late to the party but the sheer serenity and calm that permeates Azuremyst Isle still fills me with a feeling of comfort. I'll always cherish the good times this game gave me, even as it was wavering in it's vision and even if I'm entirely disillusioned with the current state of the game.

As some have stated, some of you keep characters in this zone just for the ambient music and what not and I can't say I don't blame any of you. I go through my WoW periods of taking a break from the game which is so easy to do now days simply because WoW just isn't the game that it was as is evidence by this amazing soundtrack here. When I do go back to the game, I always start with new characters for this zone and Ghostlands simply because of the lore and most definitely the music. It's always such a happy/sad mix of emotions and I'll never forget this part of the game.

I remember back in MoP when i first started to be able to understand the game (im 17 now so i was like 11-12 then) and I met this person in the goblin starting zone, and I liked interaction and I found out that it was a girl, so after we played a little bit we added each other on btag and i asked her to play the next day and it was her dad playing so i was confused because i figured she was younger, so the next day me being me i asked her how old she was when she got on xD, she was the same age as me, and we exchanged phone numbers and stuff and this was during the summer, and a good part of my family plays/played the game and i was staying with my aunt for a few weeks for fun and i talked to the girl everyday, and since we were young, my aunt & her dad talked because we wanted to call each other so that's where the number exchange came in, and we called for a few minutes everyday while playing, after you play 8+ hours a day during the summer through the nighttime as well you connect a bond to that person, and I remember one day I got on and i noticed they haven't logged on their account in a few hours, hours turned to days, days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months, which then turned into years, then became so long now its just "offline" I still feel connected to that person and i wish i could find you, i was confused because her dad had multiple 90's, hardcore raider and they were pretty wealthy considering they had a few gaming pc's. But anyway, we decided to make draneis on our last day (which we had no idea it was gonna be) playing together and i just remember everything so clearly.

I am basically 10 years late on this game ( TBC + WotLK on private server ), but nevertheless, after almost 2 years, I really have to say, I am feeling nostalgia. This was once again another game, I was playing alone like almost every game Ive played, even tho at the beginning it looked like I had someone to play with, cuz my my friend invited to play this game ( FOR FREE ). But after a while, he stopped playing. So it was just me. But the first experiences, either with my first undead Rogue roaming through Tirisfal Glades, or any other, it was something special. I remember first playing Draenei, having few beers in me, and just enjoying whole atmosphere of the starting zone on night. I dont think there is a game that made me feel so much as this game.... and you Everness enabling people to feel this whenever they want, especially when trying to sleep... thank you.

I remember coming back from a rave after non stop dancing all night 10+ years ago but couldn't sleep despite the exhaustion. Must have been around 4am and I decided to fire up WOW and after wandering around found myself in the area shown on 11:02. The exact music played (I'm getting the shivers listening to this.) I was home alone, with an amazing surround system, a large screen, in my dark room. I stared at this river for what seemed an eternity... and started crying. The music /scenery took hold of me and I couldn't control myself. For the first time in my life I felt like I had found something inside of me that I had been missing... missing for as long as I can remember. I cried for what seemed like hours. Out of nowhere an elf came up to me, she danced, showed me a flower, turned around and left. I cannot describe the exhilaration of happiness I felt at that moment, as if the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. I knew then that everything would be OK. That was the day everything changed. 10+ years later I still dream of that elf. She is burned in my memory as the angel that saved me. I look back and can only help but wonder "What if she didn't arrive that night? Would I be the person I am today?"

What you felt was the "glory" of God Many never experience, and some that do don't realize why. The reason you cried was because you were totally captured by the moment of existence that was presented to you that could only exist because of God and he gave you that moment for that exact reason.

I know of a guy who went through a game addiction program because of his addiction to WoW. He was close to 4 months clean. Had his life back on track, had a job and started dating again. Then one night, he visited an old friend who had this particular video on loop for the evening, just for some background ambience. The post-addict didn't even notice the origin of the music, that's how familiarly it sounded to him. Like wind or rain. But something in his brain was activated again. Without knowing what was going on, he went home and immediately installed WoW again. He lost his job and has been living like a hermit again, ever since.

It's always been on my mind, how we people carry around whole vast worlds inside, full of wonderful interests, information and memories. But we all kind of avoid dipping too much into it, well, because it's everyday life. And if you speak out in the wrong environment, you'll be regarded as boring, nerdy, or straight up crazy. Doesn't bother me much, but it's good to reflect on. And from time to time, you do find some rare people that speak the same mind and they become your friends.

I remember when I was 10 years old. I was playing trial version of WoW for 2 years, I searched every damn thing I could being a 20 lvl pleb. I asked my mom to buy a full game, but she refused all the time. I don't remember the reason neither does she when I ask her now, maybe she heard some bullshit from the TV about how WoW ruins people's life and all of that... I always wanted to play Draenei, they looked very unique, like no one else in fantasy default folks like dwarves, elfs and orcs. But trial version didn't allow me at that moment. But one day I heard about private servers. In 2010 it was way harder to get in those than now. I had to buy a TBC disk and do very much actions which were nearly impossible for 10 year old kid. When I did it, I felt that finally after this torture I still have a large world to explore. Of course it was bugged empty world with 100 people online, but I didn't care at that moment. First thing I did is that I created my dreanei character and launched the game. I completed starting zones for each race before in trial, and I thought I won't be impressed that much. But I was goddamn wrong, I was playing there for a day. My mom thought that she lost me, but it was worth every second of conseqences. I was in this isle for a week, I searched every corner for a new quest, which I could miss. I replayed it 3 times with different classes. For me to say that this place is magnificent means to say nothing. I really hope that Blizz will make TBC servers some day like they did with classic and I will witness all these flashbacks again.

I remember back in the day living in a non first world country it was WAAAY too expensive to play WoW, at least the _real deal..._ A child like me couldn't afford it, so I looked and looked for private TBC servers for ages. I managed to find the perfect server in my native tongue, but it was empty. I remember going to the Exodar to buy something on the auction house and there were about 7 listings total... Then I decided to play on the largest server, again with people who spoke my language. It wasn't the best, there were bugs, but at least I could finally play my Blood Elf Hunter that I always wanted. I was real edgy too, just the typical Belf kid. Named my character Bloodhunter and everything. I don't really know how or why, but Azuremyst Isle, especially the music, it stuck with me more than Eversong Woods. Over the years I've leveled here multiple times. Funny thing is, since they never changed the BC starters after Cata they became the hardest starters of "New WoW". It takes much longer to level here than Elwynn for instance. In Mists of Pandaria leveling a Draenei Monk in Azuremyst was a death sentence. Since playing on a Vanilla Private server, all of the old starter zones _are_ a death sentence come to think of it, but you improve. I just really we could also play at least the TBC starters and races with the release of Classic WoW. Not Outland just Azuremyst, Bloodmyst, Eversong and Ghostlands. Just waking up from the crash and hearing *"ARKENAN POROS!"* again. Going to eradicate the mutated flowers in Ammen Vale and clearing the woods of the Owlkin. There's a whole load here I left out, I only mentioned the beginning parts. Hell, I could probably tell you about every single quest in Azuremyst, and like half of Bloodmyst that I remember.

I remember, when TBC came out, my first Character was a Draenei shaman called Donkorleone on EU-Ambossar which was a german server. I met a Draenei Hunter and we became friends. His name was Chemalarn. Also there was a Draenei-Shaman-Girl but I dont remember her name. We were enjoying leveling and killing the Blood-Elfs on this Island in order to get these awesome elven-masks. Exploring the Draenei stating zone was fun with our group.I loved it on this Island. Everything seemed perfect on it, the landscape, the long beach, the woods the music, it was a pleasure to spend time there. Im quite sad that this lies in the past. We 3 talked about everything, school, home, our origins, and what we are going to do one day. I became a Maths and Physics-Teacher. Im wondering what these 2 people are doing today and if they remember at least my character. I wish them and all people well ;)
