cool video fellas, just a bit of physics info: the speed that the object eventually reaches is proportional to its mass and inversely proportional to its section area. Their anchored with ropes and harnesses, but they’re facing away from the cliff; the helmets are in case they slip because their heads will tend to go backwards into the rock face as the ropes catch them. Not to mention the possibility of a stone being dislodged on top of them during a rescue. When it comes to working at heights every little really can help.

@@I_drink_shoes I was a rock climber and did rope access training for working at heights in places like event halls, stadiums etc. To me it was clear as day what they were doing, but I have that background; I spent most of my working life around people doing that shit or doing it myself. Hell most lunches were spent swapping horror stories from "the day I nearly hit the deck from X (where X is an unsurvivable height) I figured that you like most people didn't have that background so I was happy to explain why they were doing it the way they did. Honestly climbing helmets always look goofy, but they do definitely have their place, on your head, instead of a sharp rock...I've learned that lesson the hard way. ;-)

My buddy and I threw a Superball off the Los Alamos Canyon bridge back in the 1960s. It was a 300 ft., plus drop to a paved road below. The return bounce seemed about 2/3 rds of the original distance, but it skewed off the the side after that and caromed off the rock walls of the canyon.

UPWARD TOSS vs. DROP I've noticed in several magnus effect videos of yours, that when you throw the ball upward, the wind/drafts have an effect on the ball as it pauses at its apex before beginning to fall. This was exaggerated in one of your Dam videos due to the updraft you noted. The updraft pushed the ball back toward you before it begins descending. The way a Frisbee thrown at a tilted angle into the wind returns to you. Or flies over your head behind you even. In your FIRST basketball magnus video, you dropped the balls with spin - not throwing them upward. And so they're not given a moment of mid-air suspension prior to falling. This appears to have a better effect to me. My hypothesis: the magnus effect will be more greatly exaggerated, and the item will be easier to aim where you want it to fly, if it begins falling immediately rather than being tossed upward several feet in the air. The upward toss allows for wind or draft to steer it off course before descent.

Wearing a hat under your helmet makes the helmet lose about 90% of it's protective usage. When that hat slips forward or backward, so will the helmet. A couple things will happen here: 1.) The hat moves backwards and the strap slips tight like a noose on your adam's apple, choking you, closing your wind-pipe and cutting off your supply of oxygen. 2.) The hat slides forward, the helmet slides with it about a two centimeters before losing friction with the hat, whereas the hat continues forward and, with a loose strap, the helmet falls back to your shoulder blades becoming 100% ineffective. 3.) Your hit the bill of your hat on something while falling over the edge of the cliff face. The hat is jerked up, the helmet is yanked back, and for a brief moment your oxygen supply is cut off before the helmet skips back to your shoulder blades to leave your head defenseless as your smack the rock face.
