I don't own or know anyone (I'm no longer a mechanic for some time) with this type of vehicle. What I found very interesting was the type of specialized tool, in which case you mentioned that this is a "universal tool" for removal of the lock ring for this fuel pump. Most fuel pumps are of the same design? So, this is for the "good to know file" for me. Thanks for the video!

Watching this video just saved me a ton of work. Not going to do this myself; taking it to the dealer for the recall, but the lady at the service desk told me I’d have to remove everything in the back of the vehicle. In my case, that includes a loaded drawer system and fridge slide. Don’t see any need for them to have the back empty. Service lady is mistaken. Had it in to them before. They freaked because of the aftermarket CBI fuel tank skid. I’ll remove the skid for them, because obviously it’s beyond their skill set, but will leave the drawer system in place. Thanks for an excellent, informative video!

Great job. I wish you showed us the old fuel pump and filter and how dirty it was. You could also have emptied the gas and poured out all the crud and grime out of the tank since you spent so much effort in removing it. Liked!

For the 4runner SUV. Remove the back seat bolts (behind a passengers ankle) usually 3, the seat can then be tilted back revealing a panel. Remove using the other end of the wheel nut wrench, crowbar or large screwdriver. The top of the fuel tank pump is revealed.
@VonMillie
@VonMillie 2 жыл бұрын
Does this apply for 5th gen 4Runners?
@binaway
@binaway 2 жыл бұрын
Better method. Sit on back seat. Behind your ankles are three plastic moldings. These pop out easily using a screw driver. Remove the bolts. Use a hexagonal socket head only. Don't use a star type socket. The seats will now lift and swing backwards. To get to the fuel pump it will only require the double seat to be lifted but you have more space with both lifted.

You can only unplug it from the access panel. Still have to drop the tank.

I love how Toyota saw how their designs made sense, the cars were easy to work on, you could do things like the filter and pump on previous models through the access port under the seat, and someone said, "No on my watch" and screwed up the whole system. Like on my 09 Rav4 I have to do this if I want to change it. I tried changing a wheel bearing and on the previous model the bolts were in front, easily accessible, easy to change. Mine, they put them in the back and without a lift I had no room to do it and wound up taking it to a shop. Or like my Focus: there used to be jackpoints everywhere on earlier Fords, but they decided to get rid of most of them and put a plastic trim under it that blocks hydraulic jacks. Cars are getting better and better, but the design to work on them is getting dumber and dumber. If I ever have a house I'm getting a full lift for the garage.

Thank you for a very informative video. I just purchased a used 2015 4Runner and 300 miles from leaving the dealership (dealership was 220 miles from my home) check engine light came on. Took it to the Toyota dealership in my town and it came back with the code PO456. The dealership recommended replacing the EVAP canister. I first replaced the gas cap and cleared codes. Code came back a few days later. My question is when the fuel pump was replaced, could the EVAP canister or hoses been affected when the dealership replaced the fuel pump prior to my purchase? Thank you again.

Brian, my question is actually timing belt replacement for Lexus is300 2003. When removed the crankshaft bolt all gears moved, I did 2 full revolutions on the crankshaft bolt and it re-aligned all marks back to TDC. Removed crankshaft pulley, idler and valves cover. Timing belt still in place When I tried to loosen the vvt-i 10mm hex nut while holding the shaft with crescent it moved, now all 3 sprockets (2 cams and crankshaft) are all 1 tooth off...I don't know how to re-align I'm stuck and nervous to move forward! Should I make 1or 2 revolutions on the crankshaft? Can I also remove the timing belt and the cams to replace the cam seals? Or should re-aligned all camshafts and crankshaft first? Please help!!!

Brian Lugo check the wiring harnesses for corrosion. After that I would pull a wiring diagram to see what else in the circuit and if all checks out then the gauge in the dash would be bad.

No fuel pump audible. Is there a relay that may be the culprit? I couldn't find one labeled as such. The Delphi price ranges from 400+ to over 700 and the Spectra brand is approx 215$ Any input on one over the other? Thank you kindly Dave BTW....your video quality and flow is the best I've ever seen
