When I was in my early 20's, me and my buddies decided we wanted to do a "Long Island Night". We didn't want to keep mixing them over and over, though, so instead we poured one bottle of each type of alcohol and two 2-liters of Coke into one of those Gatorade coolers with the spigot, dumped in a bag of ice and stirred it. When I forget the ingredients in a Long Island Ice Tea, I think if this show. If you can remember the phrase "Tell Greg To Limit Verbose Rants Sometimes" then you know what's in a Long Island. Tequila, Gin, Tripple Sec, Lemon juice, Vodka, Rum, Simple Syrup. Add a splash of coke and you're done.

Another easy way to remember it is that The Clears(Your liquors used are all clear, duh) are what make the base of your "tea", and you change it up by altering what you put in for your mixers. For example, a Raspberry Tea replaces the Triple Sec with Chambord and the Coke with 7-Up, a Melona Ice Cream Tea swaps for Midori and cream, and so on and so forth.

I just made a pair of these, one for myself and one for the missus, with one difference: I didn't have any lemon left, so I used lime juice. It seemed to add a little spiciness and freshness to the taste, but worked beautifully. Of course, I also made a double batch, from lower-shelf boozes that I had on hand, so it probably wasn't quite as tasty as the one you had. I did substitute Italian orangio for the Triple Sec, and it added a pleasing, almost herbal note to it for some reason. But the truth is in the title: This is one dangerous drink. Even halved like this, it's still a double-shot of high-proof spirits, and it just doesn't taste like it was made of five boozes, or any booze at all. Tasty and easy sippin', when you really just want that one drink to round out your entire evening, or want to get buzzed quite rapidly.

Long island iced tea was the first cocktail I was obsessed with when I was 19 and never could figure out what was getting me drunk so fast and then 5 years later after having a break from it I found out it has a billion different hard liquor in it... Lol oh ok!

I used to think (back before I started drinking) that Long Island Iced Tea actually had iced tea in it... I'm still not sure whether or not I'm disappointed that it doesn't 😅

I was the designated bartender for many a college party, I can say LIITs were somehow the most popular drink (Amaretto sours being second), even for people who didn't like drinking! It was the only cocktail with 2+ oz of booze that basically everyone enjoyed. I'd sometimes have to crank up the cola when even the lightest of weights would order their second (or third, forth..).

I've seen the Tipsy Bartender and this one. Tipsy was fun to watch but I feel I'd die if I drank his drinks. The recipes in this channel looks yummy and makes me want to drink them. Even when I don't drink at all haha

Im living in a city full of students, and that means: a lot of bars. Once wanted to do an experiment with some friends "where can we get the best LIIT?". Can't remember shit after the 6th one.

I love how everyone thinks this drink is super strong when actually it contains as much alcohol as any other long drink: 2oz. It's pure suggestion.
@gottagobuy64365 жыл бұрын
Usually it contains about 2.5-3.5 oz actually making it technically illegal to serve in restaurants in parts of the USA
@damonmiller94314 жыл бұрын
yeah but it hides the alcohol well and you drink more of them
@SlyBlu74 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that there's a big difference between 2oz of something like 50 proof amaretto, and a 110 proof tequila. Considering that a lot of bars take the reputation of the LIT as a mind-eraser and decide to make it with overproof alcohols like Bacardi 151, it's a very fair assessment that the smooth and easy-to-drink Long Island will wreck your face faster than sitting around sipping 2oz glasses of scotch. Add to the fact that people can't usually "taste the alcohol" in this and don't quite know how they're made, inexperienced drinkers can go from zero to "vomiting in a dirty bathroom stall" surprisingly quickly, because they don't realize that this is a strong drink.

Hey Greg, I know of people have requested you a series breaking down and explaining various liqueurs and spirits, but it would be amazing if you could do some episodes dedicated to single liqueurs from your back bar. Like a list of cocktails that use St Germain or Cynar etc. Love the channel!

I remember going to a bar with a friend of mine back in the '80s. I wasn't aware that he was depressed, so everything took me by surprise that night. He said he wanted something strong, so I suggested a LIIT. It showed up, and he downed it in under a minute. He said it was good and wanted another. I suggested he wait a bit, since the bartender tended to pour mine a little bit heavy, but my friend said no, and got his second LIIT. When it showed up, my friend downed it just like the first. And, just like the first, he said he wasn't feeling anything yet and wanted another. Argue, argue, debate, debate, and he ordered his third LIIT of the night. When this third LIIT showed up, my friend tossed it back like it was actual Sweet Iced Tea. AAaaannndd, this is when the FIRST LIIT hit him squarely between the eyes. Needless to say, he doesn't drink them anymore.

My college economics professor brought one of these to class with him every day of the semester, and finished it before the bell each time. He also used beer to explain, in a thick Iranian accent, supply and demand curves: Over here you have the cheap beer, the Coors. And over here you have the good beer, the Heineken. If the overall price goes up, most people will buy the Coors. But some people will say, "I don't like the Coors, I want the Heineken, if the price goes up _I don't give a damn!"_ Needless to say with his examples, enthusiasm, and love for Long Islands and bacon (he would share the bacon with those who gave correct answers), nearly everyone in that class received an A.
