I was 28 when I found out I was dyslexic. At school my teachers always said I was a slow learner, lazy and lacked confidence. I then went to college as a adult and within the first week a teacher noticed I struggled. She sent me for dyslexic test and yep I was dyslexic. After finding out it meant I knew how to adapt and reach my full potential. I will never forget that teacher and because of her I am now graduating this year and know I'm not stupid.

I'm 28 years old white, grew up in the most terrible neighborhoods in minneapolis. I have extremely bad dyslexia, my spelling is very bad, I learn slower and have a hard time paying attention to anything I'm not interested in. I went to a very poor black school growing up, and wasn't given proper help for my condition which made it very hard for me to stay in highschool when I got older. Even though I can't spell and I learn things slower than other people, once i know how to do something, I'm almost always better at it than everyone else. I feel my lack of brain power to spelling and learning speed gives me more power in other areas. I have always been a natural leader as well, People always tend to look up to me. I speak very well and am a hand full to win a debate against. I understand and think about things that normal people couldn't even wrap their minds around. I've come to see it as a blessing now.

Ya know for me, learning something that I'm not interested in, actually had more to it. Let my mind be quiet, and ask "What was my dyslexia really saying? (I don't like this) is what I got back, then I ask why? it feels hard, or I can't see it, can't see what's next. So rather than assuming my brain is lazy, I can ask "what am I not seeing" Dude, we are smarter than they are, but they deal in the abstract, things that don't have a single answer, what is more abstract than language?

I am absolutely convinced that being dyslexic has massively helped me as a programmer. I was diagnosed when I was in grade 2. I started programming when I was 13 years old. Between the young age and my dyslexia, I have had an easy and glorious 30+ year programming career. I have actually written relatively large applications in my head, walking my dogs, and then went into work the next day, typed in in from memory and it worked first shot. Since becoming a programmer, I have never felt my dyslexia was a disadvantage or disability, quite the opposite. Learning by reading is hard, especially as I age, but that is what KZbin and documentaries are for right? LOL.

The mental rotation slows me down when i read. Its micro seconds you may not notice. Letters P b and d all the same shape just a different rotation so your brain pauses some while reading. I hacked it in 5th grade I was writing capital B where a lower case b would go drove my teacher nuts and they never corrected me still write like that today if im going fast. im working on some research right now. I found that a dyslexic person can read very very and i mean very very fast with no training. you have to force words in front of you with out the other words at a rapid pace. For example a dyslexic adult may be able to read this fast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip65dJykmNmNoM0

I found out I am dyslexic at age of 17. One of my teachers in secondary school did advise me to do a dyslexic test but I always thought that knowing I am dyslexic won’t make any difference and then when I got my test done I just felt like my brain is to slow and that being “below average” is a bad thing. But after seeing this video I can fully relate to it and I can proudly say for the first time that I am more then proud to be DYSLEXIC.

I found out I was Dyslexic when I was 22 and it was a relief to finally understand why I struggled through education. I produce theatre for children now and I really didn't realize until I saw this video that Dyslexia was the reason why I can visualize whole stories and in my head, see how an image will look on stage before trying it out, or be able to know when something just won't work and everyone else thinks it will. I also love taking ideas from the people I collaborate with and then finding connections between them that they just don't see. I have heard many times that people with Dyslexia are more creative but I didn't know that it's literally because of the way our brain is wired that I make those connections. Thank you :)

I am dyslexic only with numbers not letters, by the age of 9, I retrained myself to write numbers the correct way. The advantage of dyslexia is I have a high Big Thinking ability and I see non connected things as interrelated. So Im consciously and subconsciously connecting the dots at all times. I also see things as already done. A blank empty room is designed in my mind as already done in great detail. I enjoy it and love connecting with other brains that think differently. Different is good. Being that average has us holding in the balance. Different can save the world.

60 years ago I was diagnosed as dyslexic…. Only then it was called ‘word blindness’. I was part of a group of gineapigs that was tested with the early forms of treatment, here in the UK. About ten years later some follow up research was carried out. After the researcher took me for lunch. I used the opportunity to ask how my fellow ‘gineapigs’ had got on. He explained that the outcomes was quite binary. Some had been oppressed by their dyslexia…. And had under performed. Others had overcome its disadvantages…. And outperformed their basic skill level. This video brought me new insights…. Specifically on the density of columns and it’s impact on thinking skills. Thank you

Add a comment... I'm in my 60's and Wow you have just blown me away. I was in my 40's when I found out I was dyslexic. All my life I have had real problems trying to understand why so many people seem to be so dense. Now, I don't mean this as disrespectively as it appears. I have nearly always been able to see how to solve a problem, confusion, or complication in life by using a wider perspective that others don't seem able to see and beyond the ability of most people to understand. In the 60's when I went to school, dyslexia was not even a 'thing' I was told repeatedly that I was stupid because I took years to learn to read, I did eventually and it was more my own doing than anyone teaching me. So when I could do/see solutions others couldn't I was very confused about who were the stupid people because it wasn't me. Thank you for that explanation. Its never too late to learn. Bless you.

I'd watched this video a few months ago and listed the strengths of a dyslexic. I tried asking myself questions as to how these related to me and how I could utilise them. Or was to difficult. Well I was sitting in the Barbour's the other say and came across my notes on this in Google Keep. I asked myself the questions and Bam!!!! Literally in about 120 second if answered them :) Here is what I came up with! Hope it can help someone or if your have any input is be glad to hear it :) 1. Material Reasoning _ being able to visualize objects and spaces in your head Q-How can this help me in business? Why does this make me awesome? How can I use it? A- visualise the structure of any business. 2. Interconnected reasoning - take ideas concepts and objects, put them together in a way that hasn't been done before. Able to connect and put things together even though there doesn't seem to be any relation to it. (Authoginal thinking) Q-Why does this make me awesome? How can this help me in business? A- designing systems by bringing different roles together and seeing how each aspect of the business and how each Job role affect each other 3. Narrative reasoning - being able to create a story when there are just ideas Why does this make me awesome? Q-How can this help me in business? A Create a sob story to help sell myself and my business - help me create elevator discuss and user stories 4. dynamic reasoning - being able to look at a picture or ideas and facts and create a prediction of something that is going to happen. Why does this make me awesome? Q-How can this help me in business? A - predict markets and identify tends before they happen eg bit coin

I had a reader and scribe for all exams in the first year except math and didn’t get extra time on the math exam, which they were supposed to give me. I ended up getting around 20% or less. Then the following year, my mum told them for a second time “give my daughter a reader and scribe for her math exam, please” finally I got a reader and scribe and got the top marks in my class for history (28 out of 40) and math (86.5%). It was a huge boost in self esteem for me. I’m now awaiting my exam block results for yearlies and I’m nervous af.

School noticed that I was Dyslexic at age 8. Interestingly I still have the reports on it discussing my development and learning deficiency -> they measured my IQ which was stated 92 and they questioned something like: does he have low intelligence or is he dyslexic? Well My main problem (like most of us) is reading like a turtle and learn like a fish if the topic doesn't interest me. However I am a visual learner so I kind of made my own way of learning -> relate uninteresting topics to interesting ones, if you make the similarities there is a lot (even though you force a boring fact to link - it can still link up in your mind during a test with something you like). The most powerful way for us is focus on things you think is fun -> understanding scientific topics or art topics is like breathing for me -> while other fields are suffocating - so I avoid them. Btw liked the second part of the video the first part was to slow.

I have a LD, I have dyscalculia. My entire life I've been embarrassed, always hid my maths results, confused numbers, couldn't follow sequences, my entire life I wanted to be a pilot...I was told I couldn't because I was dumb, I finally decided to be upfront and tell me flight instructor, ever since I'm gradually improving and doing my best and decided to pursue my career as a flight instructor.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia in 1977, thankfully my mother was a special ed teacher and understood this and fought on my behalf in the schools. However it is nice to understand the biological differences in the brain and why I am able to do some of the things I do (I.E. the 4 strengths of the dyslexic brain) I am very glad you also explained the difference in the autistic brain and dyslexic. I have a 9 year old autistic daughter that amazes me every day with her memory and intelligence now I understand why and how I can help her to correlate different ideas etc. Btw is it just me or are there a ton of books on dyslexia and to a lesser extent audio books or videos... Seems like someone kinda missed a major issue with being dyslexic

Hi, I'm Spanish and 19 and when I was 16,5 years old I took a IQ test called WAIS-IV (Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale -4th edition), and it showed I had 140 points. Other specialist, not the one who I did the WAIS-IV with, told me after seeing the results that I had a little bit of dyslexia. Ironically the highests punctuations I got were on verbal comprehension. I'm really really good at writing, learning other languages, relating words I don't know of a language with other words I know in other languages, for example: I know Spanish and English, and when I was learning some French I relate some words with no-apparently similar words of Spanish or the very little Italian I know, and the teacher used to tell me that I was right, it all come from Latin, and I amazingly kind of guess some Latin words, it's hard to explain, and I have never known Latin I have some little attencion problems, but not significant... Actually I don't no if I do have dyslexia or other thing because I've been investiganting about what it is and I do not struggle on differing sounds to letters and words. I just make mistakes few times writing words, when it happens to me normally consists in writing a letter or a syllable at the beggining of the word, when it actually goes after, it's not the first letter or syllable of that word. Some other times, but hardly ever I err at speaking, for example, when I want to say something like: Tienes un huevo de libros ( You have a bunch of books) I think it right, but say it wrong and then I say: Tienes un libro de huevos ( You have a book of bunchies) Well, the language translation difficult the comprehension of the example, because I only make those kind of mistakes when the words I change make sense in both ways, but obviously change the meaning of the sentence. It is so funny and when it happens to me everybody, and I include myself laugh at it, but at writing it's sometime a problem since I have to correct so much... Could someone tell me what exactly I have? Thanks, greetings from Spain y'all! PEACE♥

I do get upset and envy People why write and read and can write naturally......my mind cannot process how they do it. Yes I can't read it write but my creativity is super high and my drawings are beautiful.....I think much faster then normal people.....but still it does effect your esteem where I have had people judge me that I'm stupid. Hi was dyslexic all through my school life up to my 30’s when I became very spiritual I’d been seeing spirit all my day dreaming life i just didn’t no at the time I was seeing spirit my teaches always said to me Cheryl your day dreaming again I truly believed day dreaming was the same as night dreaming only you had your eyes open. At 38 I started to to read I had a great passion for it I felt the greatness within to read & write like nothing I’d ever experienced before. I achieved my goal eventually, Then at 40 I had a stroke which sat me on my ass left me with such a bad memory loss I couldn’t read or write again. My grandson tough me how to read & write my own name he was 5 years old. He would come home from school and teach me what he had learned that day. I’m forever grateful to be able to read and write again I’m truly blessed 💛🙏🙏

I am working on a similar video to help frenche Canadian dyslexic. There is a lot of information, help , motivational and inspirational stuff for dyslexic all in english, but almost nothing as creative and motivating in french. I am 52 y/o and dyslexic, all my life I new that I had higher IQ than the other but nevertheless struggled in school because of the lack of help we had in my time. Anyway, it's improving now, but the vast majority of dyslexic aren't diagnosed, those who are, don't have the help the need and does not now that they have a spectacular way of thinking that could just hide the next Da Vinci. I would love to stay in touch with you, chat or maybe share information on the evolution of our work. I'm older but still kicking and bold enough to create something fresh for te DYS.

I was confusing the hell out the the teachers in school, eventually they sent me to an educational phycologist and I broke his IQ test - I was of the scale - in BOTH directions, some of his sub-tests I was 'almost supper human' others I 'barely registered as intelligent'. Somehow this assessment lead to me being put back into regular 'copy from the board until you remember it well enough to repeat it in exams' class to continue being forced to do what I was rubbish at but with 50% extra time in exams. I strongly believe the first nation to truly embrace and invest in it's dyslexics will own the coming decades.

Hey Owen! for sure, I think in uncertain times - people who think differently have a huge advantage to outcompete and win. Its becoming less and less of hassle to be a dyslexic (spell checkers, Text to speech, and communication moving more and more away from reading and writing our disadvantages are becoming manageable while our opportunities are growing.

This is great information. I am dyslexic but didn't know it until I was 30 getting my teaching certification. I just thought something was wrong with the because I struggled to read and couldn't spell. Now that I am a teacher, 5th grade, I work to encourage my dyslexic students, most who are already so down on themselves bc of their struggles and peer teasing. I tell them they are actually more intelligent and have a secret code they are having to learn on top of what everyone else is doing. I would like to show them this video but it is a little advanced for 5th grade. Would you mind making another one with the visuals with less of the higher academic vocabulary? I would greatly appreciate it and make it a prerequisite for them. Thank you in advance! May God bless you too.

Low Density isn't more energy consuming and is actually more efficient in conserving energy due to the columns being longer and encoded with more information, yes it can bring about great creativity at times, but it can also lean towards less rational behaviours / perceptions when in higher states of fight or flight / Sympathetic Nervous system ( which explains why people with ADHD/Dyslexia are more volatile in the attempt to control their emotions ). People with ADHD and Dyslexia shouldn't consume too much caffeine, because they become less rational due to being more reliant on Memory rather than Attention and are thus forced to pay more attention to those memories and less with new information because larger forms of memory takes less time to breakdown and process than it would for the analyzation of new information, where it can get to the point of delusion, depression and irrationality... We either lack Attention or poverty of Imagination and not both at the same time. They share a symbiotic relationship where one is on one end of the spectrum line while the other is on the other end. Sometimes one is greater than the other depending on the rate at which the frequency of energy is flowing within the body and how much is available for the brain to analyze ( Autonomic Nervous System ). What makes the Autonomic Nervous System switch on and off from sympathetic and parasympathetic is highly dependent on whether you're in fight or flight or rest and digest. Rest and digest promotes more Imagination/creativity, while fight and flight promotes more Attention/awareness. We are constantly turning these on and off every time we decide to analyze new or old information separately or simultaneously. This is why our dreams are creative in nature but lack proper attention for us to take action in order for it to be solidified into reality. Same thing with high attention, we lack creativity as to direct us to our dreams.

I have the Dynamic 10 fold. You should understand that this ability also comes with great stress because we see the outcome. When we age we also see our end. We cannot see the short term very well. We see it but it is hard to commit to the daily task but it can be done, no problem. It is better to delegate in business those tasks but harder when you see 20 or 10 years your own future personally. That causes me depression.

So I contactet somewhere I could be diagnosed. Both I and my x was sure I had dyslexia. Now I use TTS installed on my laptop and have activated accessibility TTS on my phone(Android activate in settings) and have some kind of scanner app to scan text to picture to TTS. And I use audiobooks when I have to learn something from books or I use videos / sound. But hands on learning is definitly best for me.
