Laura I’m so happy to hear your father is doing well. Wishing him the best of health for 2024. Health issues and concerns as well as loss of a loved one puts everything into perspective. I’ve had an autoimmune disease since I was 17 as well as having an ill father while I was growing up. After losing my dad and going through surgeries and still living with chronic pain, etc. I look at life differently. I just don’t want much of anything anymore. It is much more important for me to have a decluttered home and a simpler life. I’m still working on it as I know I will feel a lot less anxious and will be able to maintain my home easily. Spending time with my family and friends and hopefully travelling is what I look most forward to in 2024.

My batteries were out of date and I didn't realize it. I was thinking my wireless keyboard and mouse needed replaced but nope my batteries were out of date by almost 6 months but still somewhat working. My other half could make out the date on the batteries. Buying bulk wasn't wise for us as we didn't use them fast enough.

Gosh, I never even considered that they'd go out of date! I have rechargeable ones now and just switch them out every week.

I just look at “goals” like that all the time by now. Every undertaking really is just a trial and error process. Like an experiment. I basically don’t call things “goals” anymore. I take the approach that maybe I’d like to “try” this or that and then I just see how it goes. And really, more times than not, the whole thing really was just for me to learn from it that I need to move on from that thing or change my course entirely. These things are just as much about learning what is worth pursuing and what isn’t. It’s just like the guilt clutter we have. Somehow we want to not “lose” what we already “invested” in it. But just as with the stuff we keep around for that reason, it’s also a fallacy when it comes to goals. That’s bcuz keeping it or keeping at it is only adding to the current wasted space or wasted time. Best to just stop or get rid of it now and cut any “losses” now rather than later. I could say the same for toxic relations also. Putting more into it is just wasting even more. Trying to keep polishing turds just never really works. Lol.

I have retained old Christmas cards, and am glad I did. Having the final card from a deceased Love One displayed on my mantel each Holiday Season keeps their memory with us. Perhaps because I'm now in my 60's, I find that these simple items (cards, notes, letters) have turned into Family Treasures. Once you toss them, they're gone forever. They can always be recycled once I'm gone, or perhaps my Kids will take the time to share them with my future Grandkids, along with a little bit about who the Sender was. They're a Legacy.

Being formally diagnosed with a medical condition helped me be more accepting of my limitations... maybe that's part of it for you too. It was a real lightbulb moment when you said that some goals are meant to be abandoned or partway done just like some books that don't suit you or you got enough out of them.

I tested positive for c-vid on Monday and that will now dictate what my holidays are going to look like. No handmade gifts, no cards, no visits. The only thing I'm upset about is the handmade gifts. Every year I make an ornament for family and very close friends. They are usually small so I wait until December when I can finally get into a holiday mood to make them. They will be delayed a bit and maybe added to something else that is useful during the rest of the year. This is not what I had planned for the end of my year, but it's what I've got. Hope to make the best of it.

I understand how you feel. I had a terrible viral infection that gave me flu-like symptoms and laryngitis for 3 weeks. I lost 12 pounds in two weeks! I felt better for two days then my husband and I tested positive for Covid four days ago. No decorations or cards for us this year. We missed Thanksgiving with family so we're hoping to enjoy Christmas at least. Prioritizing our health right now.

*hugs* (if that's ok). I'm sorry to hear about your father's condition. thank you for this video. Love the family scenes. 😊 That toy is a bowling ball and pins set. .... Skittles are candy. I'm kind of the other way around... I used to LOVE winter and I would be so excited with the first snowfall, and stuff.... but in the last few years and especially this year.... I have almost been dreading it... and not enjoying it as much as I used to. =/ we've had enough snow that I had to shovel .... but today it's raining the snow has almost all melted away.

Hi Laura! Will you be moving before next christmas? I f so, you might take to oppertunity to purge christmas items and other seasonal decor etc in the beginning of the season and take the overflow to a donationcenter/shelter/consignement shop aso now, instead of having to take care of it just before the move and perhaps not in the right season.

Kids referring to the 90s as 1900s grinds my gears. I was raised by boomer teachers and it was apparently important for me to memorise that 1900s refers to the hundred years prior to the year 1900 ie: 1800-1899. Why did I have to know this!! Can’t I be blissfully ignorant about this unnecessary gripe.
