I sand and refinish my own floors for houses I renovate, and I’m about to sand and refinish about 800+sq.ft of oak flooring. How necessary is the three pad sander? I normally use my low speed buffer with a 100-120 sanding screen after I finish with the drum sander. Also, that floor is insanely smooth no ripples or waves from the drum sander, you’re next level thorough.

Great video!, as a carpenter, you might be able to apply a mist of water on the floor after the first sanding to possibly raise the grain of the wood to compensate for the planing job the homeowner did, have fun!

I about to tackle my own home myself and your videos are excellent in learning the right and wrong way to do the job. As an engineer I really appreciate your explanations and examples that go with them. I've watched many YT videos on this subject and you have provided the absolute best information and this includes watching the Bona training videos. In fact, your cross board sanding technique is the only one I've found anywhere and it makes perfect sense when you consider the physics of the job between the wood type, tool type, and pressure variables all working to achieve the outcome. Knowledge is power and you have provided a lifetime of learning in a few short videos that allow someone like me to not only see, but understand why a particular step and technique are the best practice to achieve the best outcome. As a person who pays extreme attention to details in the world, I'm extremely grateful for you taking the time to share your wisdom with us. There is no substitute for real world experience and practice to hone one's skills to be one of the best. Cheers...from the USA.

Good luck with it when you do! Often it can look trashed but there’s a new floor 1/16 of an inch below the surface.
