I found a patch of creeping bent grass in my back yard about 15'x18', and just scalped it to the ground with a string trimmer...bought an $18 flagstick and cup and called it a day..Worms do all the fertilizing and aeration..I just have to hose down the worm castings every few days and keep it about 1/4" with the string trimmer...The more I walk on it the flatter and faster it gets...Probably need some sand.

Hey Doc, I’m in the transition zone (southern Mo) and had a question. Bermuda from my neighbor keeps invading my tall fescue to the point where I may just try to embrace it. If I wanted to go away from TTTF, would a seed blend of Bermuda and Bent play nice together? The local golf courses use bent but I don’t have irrigation. Would fall seeding with Ryegrass damage the Bermuda/bent when summer rolls back around?

Great idea with the aerator. My only question is why play sand and not usga sand? Everyone I know in the golf course world says to never use play sand on your lawn. And once you go down the road of leveling and topdressing you need to keep using the same sand type. Particle size especially.

Could you use a plant growth regulator to give the area a tighter texture and contrast instead of overseeding with a different grass? That way if you change your mind or want to reshape you don’t have a strange color patch. It would also make a finer blade. Just a thought, looking at my Bermuda It’s so obvious how little I know about grass.
