Thank you for the thorough guide! My PS3 controller has to be plugged in AND I had to disable the vibration function because it cannot hold a charge, so a battery replacement is definitely needed. Definitely will order one of those kits.

A year later but thanks for this comment. COD kept turning off my ps3 controller and I had an idea it was the battery but just haven’t got one yet. So I couldn’t play the game. Then seeing your comment I turned off the vibration and I’ll be damned it doesn’t disconnect every ten seconds. Great temp fix until I get a new battery. Thanks

Out of the 5 controllers I bought off of eBay, 3 are brand new but the two used ones are faulty batteries with one of them not even charging at all. When I opened up my white one (the one that can’t charge) the battery was already loose inside the controller. Using pliers definitely helped with removing the old battery and I knew how to put it back in with the new battery by paying attention to that groove in the middle.

I bought a second hand PS3 slim on ebay in very good condition. But the same sixaxis controller that came with the console disconnects by itself every 30 mins to an hour and when i turn it back on the battery is at 75%.... So is this an issue with the console or the battery in the controller?

Interesting. My controller didn't have those separate pieces under the R2 buttons. Forgot how spongy the trigger buttons were. Watch those baby springs behind the trigger buttons, if they're not seated correctly your buttons won't work right.

My PS3 (dualshock/rumble) controllers didn't come with those 'battery stands'.. instead the batteries themselves had a couple of click-nips/little legs in the corners. I can't seem to find any replacement batteries that have those little legs on them? Is there a place I can order/find those battery stands?

Why does the battery get swollen you left the controller in the sun?
@DirtyBlack997 Жыл бұрын
As the battery ages, this chemical reaction no longer completes perfectly, which can result in the creation of gas (called outgassing), leading to a swollen battery. Additionally, if the battery's internal layers don't maintain proper separation (due to damage or defect), outgassing, swelling, and even fire can occur.

Why the hell didn't Sony make their batteries easier to replace like just unscrew and its available like the wii-U is so easy to replace batteries without fiddly bits. This is why I always prefer the Xbox pads they are just AA batteries which means rechargeable 2800mah = eternal power and easy to charge or replace after 5 years or so lol
@SmallSpoonBrigade4 ай бұрын
They didn't really plan on people playing with the same controllers for so long. But, this is hardly the only design problem with them. I have never been able to get them to charge without plugging them into a PS3, Computer or something else that does more than just charge. I don't know why they did that as it's rather stupid to require that you plug it into the PS3 when you might have more than just two contollers charging at the same time. I only have one controller, but I've heard that some games will allow more than 2 players at once, meaning that as the controllers age, keeping them all charged can require creativity.
@deusvlad2.0834 ай бұрын
@@SmallSpoonBrigade Sony don't think very often do they? I mean look at the ps5 pro now it comes £700 without a Disk Drive, good luck trying to sell another digital console that doesn't have a disk drive at that price.
@deusvlad2.0834 ай бұрын
@@SmallSpoonBrigade Actually if that was true, they made the same mistake again for ps5 lol they could redesign it and make it replaceable easily, but is it? still have to unscrew and open triggers and cables?
