Wow that's amazing. I was thinking of trying spray can clear coat on a project I'll be doing this summer. This playfield looks great. Thanks for the post sir.

Thanks for the video. I used a lot of your tips on my newly refinished Lethal Weapon 3. Turned out well.

Great video. I would suggest you try wax and grease remover for cleaning the playfield instead of IPA. Its what auto shops use for the very task of wiping down panels on cars. You can buy it in large containers if you wish and its very cheap. It will clean out the dust and muck and evaporate very quickly. Dan

Wow, that's not even with a wax. That's fantastic.

Looks fantastic, saving for future reference. I currently have a Bally Kings of Steel stripped down sitting on my bedroom coffee table about to clean and paint touchup. I'm considering hand brushing the clearcoat like I did the pinball legs I restored. Thoughts on type of clear coat to go over acrylics? I used water polyurethane on the legs but the paint was enamel based would same polyurethane work?

Thank you. A pragmatic approach to making your Playfield look amazing. With waiting hours between coats, how long did this take?

Fantastic work! How long did the whole process take after you have removed all the parts from the playfield? Im thinking of doing the same with a Bally Star Trek but I dont know if I have the stamina. Super thx for the video!

Anyone watching this be weary: I'm not sure those clear coats are remotely durable to auto clear coats like 2K. Also I've had issues painting guitars with these types of clear coats and the paint never dried because of too many coats. Make sure you wait for each coat to dry thoroughly.

Why didn't you straighten the light insert plastics, I see they are cupped into the playfield. They do look straight in the final product, maybe the clearcoat built up in the low spots?

I could have sanded the inverts flat but would have lost the artwork. There are ways of replacing the artwork, but I didn’t want to do it. Mainly the issues was that I didn’t sand the clear coat flat enough. You have to make sure there is a thick enough layer to sand. I was just being a bit conservative with my sanding.

Did you have to glue any inserts before clear coating? I recently got my F2K and just removed Mylar and noticed while doing that a couple inserts that were loose.

I have another video showing how I glued back inserts in another pin. I personally just use wood glue. That way I can always use a heat gun to get them back out. Others recommend using a permanent epoxy, but if you mess up there’s no turning back.

hahaha, make sure and use a nice rickety table while sanding. Naver saw someone use a rattle can to clear coat a playfield. You are brave sir.

+Stereo Studios you should try it sometime, came our great. But I don't recommend the rickety table, you can skip that step.

How did it work out in the end or after a few games? Looks good. Any dents from the ball or scratching or did it harden up pretty good?

Any updates, how did this playfield hold up?
@HowToWithGEO6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I really need to do the final before and after video. So far the clear coat is doing well.

Please do :)

What? You didn't finish with a wax coat too?

NOOOOO! Just pay for an auto clearcoat job done right! Or at least put up plastic sheeting to create a dust and bug free space.
